I will say that I absolutely HATE living here. I want to leave so bad it’s unreal. I just hate how I get treated as if I don’t have feelings. I’ve had to go and complain about the elevators and the noisy people above me. The elevators were finally fixed but I’m not holding my breath on how long they are going to stay working. I’ve been here since end of Feb. beginning of Mar. The elevators have been down 3times. The people above me have quieted down some what but a picture is still broken, the LED lights on my entertainment center still fall off, and they are still stomping around during late hours. Then, today I find out that my husband’s motorcycle has been stolen. We have an underground parking garage that is gated and needs a clicker to open it. We have recently had some company come in to do «pressure washing» of the garages. There wasn’t any pressure washing just a sweeping. My husband did notice that one of the men doing the cleaning watched him unload his motorcycle of the trailer and then it goes missing around midnight on Friday. I’m terrified to walk around during the evening or night by myself. My husband has been offered a job in Afghanistan and that would leave me here by myself… yeah that’s not going to happen! I have to deal with people smoking and the smell taking over my place. I also have to deal with people yelling and smoking pot in the ally: which is my oh so wonderful view. The apartment is super small for what we pay for. We were told that we didn’t have to pay water and trash but that seems to be a lie. We are suppose to have security walking around, helping to keep the building/​people safe but where were they when the motorcycle is stolen?! All in all… I wish I could move and it’s only May!

I have been a resident at the Westerly on 3^rd for six years. Prior management was Archstone; however, since the new management has taken over the property, I have recognized the vast improvement of the services being rendered. The management staff is exceptional, with many plaudits offered to Doreen who is at the helm. The lobby has undergone a face-​lift that speaks volumes as to the amenities and the decorative elements for the residents and perspective residents to enjoy. Congratulations to all that played an integral part in making this complex second to none. I remain one proud resident here at the Westerly on 3^rd.

It’s been a week that I moved to this place and I have to say it’s a very good place to call it home. I was worrying about a lot of things like noises and security before I move to here, and seems like it was just unnecessary to worry.
1. The security doesn’t seem to be a problem at all. Locked gates and parking lot makes me feel safe even downtown isn’t the safest place in Long Beach.
2.It’s been a week and there hasn’t been any noise that bothered me. It’s even too quite and I don’t feel there are people actually living around me.
3. Staffs are very friendly and responsible. They are always available in the office when I need help and are always willing to help me.
This apartment might be a little bit pricey, but you really get what you pay for. They also have fitness studio, dancing room, pool and so forth, all available for the tenants.
If you are looking for apartment in LB downtown area and expecting a peaceful lifestyle. I would recommend this place to you.

I am a former resident of Westerly on 3^rd and just moved out in August of 2013. When my lease began, the apartments were managed by Archstone and Riverstone took over shortly thereafter. I was skeptical in the beginning, which is typical when a new company takes over; however, skepticism was replaced with respect when I saw the changes that were taking place. Renovation of the lobby and computer lab, new carpet in the hallways (although I wasn’t crazy about the pattern), roof top updated for entertaining, organized events for tenants to enjoy such as breakfast and dinners on the rooftop and quick responses for maintenance issues. The staff was always friendly and professional. Doreen and Taryn were always warm and welcoming (not to mention the pleasure of an occasional «Penny» sighting, Doreen’s adorable teacup poodle). The only reason that I deducted a star is due to the apartments themselves, not management. The 1 bedroom apartments are very small with minimal storage space (no linen or coat closet) and there is no option for a washer and dryer in the apartment (I know, I know, common problem in Long Beach). That being said, I enjoyed my time here and I would recommend them for anyone looking to stay in the downtown Long Beach area.

An example of exception service is when I encountered a slight issue with an outlet on the roof of the building. I notified the front desk and within 2 minutes the outlet was working. Yes, I like to do my work, read, and drink wine on their roof right under the gigantic umbrella, it is a feeling that very few apartment complexes can create for their customers. Generally, you would have to go downtown to a sky lounge to get something of similar nature. Additionally, the internet is blazing fast on the roof, which is pretty interesting. Everyone is extremely nice in this building as well, sometimes too nice.
I wish I could somehow transport this building and it’s workers to my new work location in Northern California!

Never before have I lived in a community with such considerate and energetic people. I cannot live without their awesome Sauna and Jacuzzi as well. Everything is within walking distance ranging from local fresh food markets, the beach, and delicious cafes and restaurants, which is a huge plus. The management is extremely nice and always willing to listen and help you if you have some issue. I was able to obtain a 9 month lease for the same price as the 12 month lease! Their one bedroom hardwood floor apartments are my favorite, personally.
Also, if you are a fan of the 1920’s, you cannot miss the view of the Queen Marry from their rooftop BBQ and Lounge!

The Westerly on 3^rd is an amazing place to live!
Is it the newest or fanciest? No, it’s not. An apartment isn’t a home unless you have a staff that cares about you as a person. The Westerly on 3^rd has a small community feeling where the staff knows you and greets you whenever they see you.
Although my time there was short, Doreen and Taryn made me feel like family and I will always appreciate it. I can’t wait to stop by sometime soon to see how the renovations are going. I’m sure it’s going to be great.
If you’re in the market for an apartment in a prime Downtown location give them a look. You’ll be glad you did.

This place was filled with shenanigans when my fiancé and I lived there for a year:
1.) Shortly after having moved in (on the 1^st floor) an apartment on a higher floor, had flooded (or a pipe burst) and it ran down to our floor, between the walls (because, gravity.) Our bathroom and dining room floors were soaked, and the wood floor laminate peeled up as a result of being soaked. We needed to have the bathroom and dining room floors completely replaced. No biggie… except it took them a few MONTHS to get in there and actually replace the floors. And then they needed to be re-​replaced, because THOSE peeled up too.
The men they hired to replace these floors were… less than professional. One guy was using a trash can as a work bench to cut the laminate boards. It took them 3 hours, to finish about ¼ of the room.
The corner of the dining room started getting green/​gray spots everywhere, due to the water having gone behind the walls — uh oh, mold. When I pointed this out to one of the maintenance men, he said «No, it’s not mold because it’s not black.» Um… wut. So yeah, we had to live with that the whole time. We just decided not to use our dining room at all while we lived there.
2.) Our kitchen flooded! I’ve provided a picture of what our hallway looked like due to that flood. My fiancé and I woke up one morning, to the gentle sounds of water. Confused, my fiancé went to go see where that noise was coming from. And then I heard him scream, «HOLY SH*T COME OUT HERE!» He was shin-​deep in water in our kitchen. Black and brown water was POURING out of both sides of the kitchen sink. It covered ALL of our countertops on that side, and all of the lower cabinets, and the insides of said cabinets. I have no idea why the water was black and brown… but it got all over everything.
The kitchen floors, no surprise, needed to then be replaced. THEY NEVER WERE. We lived in this apartment for a whole year, and this incident happened about 6-​months in… and the «correct color» of the floors couldn’t be ordered for some reason (or whatever other excuse they gave us). So our kitchen floor was an uneven, gross mess for the remaining 6 months we lived there. There was no way to clean in-​between the peeled-​up laminate boards. So the murky black/​brown water that had seeped in, was there to stay.
3.) Our kitchen sinks backed up often since we’re on the first floor, I guess we share the main water line with the upstairs apartments. We’d be sitting on the couch watching a movie, and then all of a sudden hear a horrible blub-​blub-​blub sound coming from the kitchen. And then the overflow would start. We found out that our upstairs neighbors were throwing their coffee grinds in the garbage disposal, and that was causing OUR sinks to back up. Gross.
4.) When you get a package, the delivery person used to put a note on your mailbox that said «package in office» (or something like that). Westerly on 3^rd put an end to the notes-​on-​the-​mailboxes, and assured us that *THEY* would email us when we received a package. I got 1 email out of the 12 packages I received there. So, just remember to keep track of your own mail, because if you have something waiting for you downstairs, you’ll never know about it.
If you live on a street-​side, you’ll hear A LOT of noise. Buses, cars, drunk people, loud people in general. The windows do a fairly decent job of keeping out the noise. our neighbors on either side of us were pretty quiet, we never heard anything from them. Our neighbors ABOVE US, on the other hand, were loud as hell all the time. It sounded like they were slamming bowling balls into the floor. The night we moved in, they got into a physical fight and we could hear furniture being thrown around and some woman screaming. *thumbs up*
The one (surprisingly) awesome thing that has come out of living there, was receiving 80% of our deposit back. Woohoo!
The security is also nice. You need a garage opener to get into the parking, and then an elevator key to get from the garage to the apartments. If you’re entering the apartment building from the street, you need a key to activate the door. So, a lot of keys. But, it’s smack in the middle of DTLB, so… the extra security is necessary.

Fantastic place to live. The staff is what makes it better than average.

I’ve lived at this community for a little over a year and I could not be happier! The apartments used to be owned by Archstone but was bought by Riverstone. The staff is always friendly and very accomodating. The community recently got a new manager and she’s absolutely FANTASTIC! She’s sweet, very polite, and seems geniunely caring. The grounds always look great and if I ever need anything all it takes is a quick call and its done. I’ve lived at many apartment communities but this one is by far my favorite. I see myself living here for many years to come. :)

Hello all of you nay-​sayers! I stumbled upon this page while I was visiting the city, and couldn’t believe what I saw!!! People defending Archstone! When I lived in an Archstone community, my bank account was raped with ridiculous charges and I was «helped» by some of the rudest staff I’ve ever met in my entire life.
I just wanted to say that I love this place. One of my closest friends lives here, and every time I go in everyone (including the manager) is so nice and helpful! I’ve toured just for fun (I love open houses, what can I say!), and have experienced nothing but professional etiquette, positive attitudes, and genuinely friendly staff members. Also, have you seen the rooftop view??? Unbeatable. Truly.
My friend hasn’t complained once since the new owners took over, and has actually encouraged me to move there… but I’m not sure if it’s because she’d get a referral fee :). There is so much around here that’s within walking distance. I’m partial to the restaurants and Aquarium, but to each his own! If I didn’t live so close to my work in Orange County, I could definitely see myself moving here.
So to all of you readers out there, don’t be distressed because of these angry, self-​loathing people just trolling to make bad reviews! Check it out and maybe you can form your own opinion of the staff!
