Rook Coffee

I really like the coffee at Rook but every time I go there they short me 2 ounces of coffee. What’s up with that? Why do they think it’s okay to not give you a full cup? It’s not like the coffee is cheap. Please fix this asap!

Would not buy their coffee just based on the way they treat people. Got to the Little Silver train station at 5:55am. It was about 25 degrees out. They made us stand outside until 6:03. Would not even open up to let us wait in the warm waiting room. Really???

I was in the area running errands with my son, and I said «Son, I need a little pick me up». He suggested Rook Coffee, which was an excellent choice. Let me just say this, buying coffee nowadays is intimidating because of the menu and the blends, and how the workers stare at you waiting for you to order. Take all what I just said, and throw it out the window, because the gentlemen behind the counter took the time to explain everything, which allowed us to order some really nice Nicaraguan medium roast blend with some really nice notes of chocolate, and my son had the Costa Rican light blend with notes of cherry. This stuff is great, it’s like going to a wine tasting in Sonoma (loved it). Thank You Rook Coffee for a fabulous experience. To hell with Starbucks and their silly red cups and not supporting the troops, support your local coffee cafes people! Small businesses drive our communities, find those gems, share your stories.

There isn’t a cold brew coffee like it anywhere around. I prefer the New Orleans cold brew, but the pumpkin spice wasn’t too shabby.

The New Orleans style cold brew blew my mind! Took two concentrate bottles for the road. I’ll be seeking out Rook anytime I’m anywhere near Monmouth County

Yes! Jersey is finally getting some class. I loved the coffee though admittedly am used to a quicker fix. The other surprise were the pastries, and, I was pleasantly surprised at the cost — $ 12 got to me two awesome cups of coffee, an amazing almost croissant, a scrumptious scone, and a granola bar. Great deal if you ask me! Terrific service, too!

New Orleans iced all the way! I’ve had New Orleans sludge coffee before and this place does a killer job. I visit every time I’m in the area.

As a coffee nerd and a coffee professional, I was excited to run across a roaster while at a wedding in the area. I would give 2 stars but the customer service was so exceptional, it deserves another star. The people of the shop were really nice and informative and personal. When walking in it’s very simplistic and is made for walkin and out only. A cold and hot sign with a large list of coffees and roasting styles are quite visible and easy to understand. I chose the cold brew, New Orleans style, (think Grady’s Cold Brew) per recommendation. They brew in a concentrate then add milk or water depending on your preference. Unfortunately I did not really enjoy the coffee itself and ended up not drinking it. While it tasted ok, the flavor was too concentrated and syrupy. The chicory was completely lost and the coffee was unexceptional.
Would I recommend this place, yes, the people are great and I would go back to try a pour over style coffee. Their wall full of single serve tins is great and I wish I would have tried one of them.
As an espresso traditionalist and someone who drinks them all the time, I was disappointed they didn’t have a machine to give an espresso option and I did ask if any of the locations had it, sadly no. But, even though that’s not their way of doing coffee, I would still recommend it. I am aware that my review is only 3 stars but since this is a coffee specific shop, I have to rate them based on that alone.
In summary, the cold brew was not something I enjoyed. But the overall experience pushed them further. Go in and check them out.

Some coffee snobs claim this place is overrated… over-​roasted beans and the Rook «quick pour» method doesn’t yield the most flavor. I’m not a coffee expert. I totally hear the concerns, but to this coffee «rook“ie (ha), Rook is awesome. New Orleans cold brew is one of the best iced coffee drinks ever, and you can’t get it anywhere else. I like mine with just whole milk. Friendly, well-​trained staff that really works when it’s busy.

I remember my first time at a Rook. I like to consider the Long Branch one my favorite, but it’s only bc it’s my go-​to.
I went in and, as I usually did at coffee shops, I asked the workers what they recommend. Instead of just being handed a cup I was asked what I liked. So I said lighter roast and they pointed to their chalkboard of coffee. I stated the Ethiopian one, but the girl made me pronounce the second part of the name of the coffee. So I stumbled through «yirgacheffe» but it was a fun time nonetheless. (Ur-​gah-​chef)
From there I only drank that yirgacheffe. Every time. But I recently upgraded to a medium roast, got the Nicaraguan this morning. Don’t regret my decision at all.
I mean if the coffee wasn’t insanely delicious, I’d still probably give this place 5 stars because the employees are just the damn best.
You can even text in an order and like run in to pick it up.
If there was ever a reason to move to Monmouth County…

Visiting long branch on tour and wanted some good coffee before I hit the road again. Coffee was amazing but what made the experience better was the voluptuous barista sex goddesses working there. The potent mix of the scent of roasted beans and ripe pheromones emanating from behind the counter almost drove me into a highly caffeinated sexual frenzy. As long as the barista sex goddesses are working ill def come back.

What a Great cup of coffee ! First time trying Rook, and went for the special coffee of the day ! It was call Uganda and wow it amazed me, probably the best coffee I have had in awhile ! Can’t wait till they build one by me ! Friendly people who work there made the experience amazing !

I don’t normally drink coffee, but when I do, it’s Rooks. Man, why did it take me so long to try out this place? The hype is for real. I love the process they have in place for making the freshest cup of coffee possible.
My first time in there, I looked like a clueless idiot. The staff was very patient and cool with my dumbass. The main coffee dude was so cool, and passionate about his job. My favorite so far is the Nicaraguan. My sister has me bring her bags of this stuff every time I go to Maryland. Exceptionally fair priced, imo.

Rook has ruined coffee for me. Never again will I enjoy the smell of dunkin donuts, or waltz happily in to starbucks. For I have tasted the glory that is rook coffee and my taste buds cannot return from the lofty heights they fly to after savoring the liquid inspiration that is this wonderful coffee. Other places should be ashamed to even call their hog swill, coffee. Get the nicaraguan, it’s my favorite

Oh god my family is nuts over Rook!
My entire family loves it here, and must go on the weekends and during the week if their schedule allows it… I on the other hand don’t drink coffee.
I think it is super efficient and apparently the new orleans cold brew is where its at ! They get people in and out quickly with their coffees in tow. My family even got my boyfriend hooked he works in the city and searches for a place that is as good all the time… until yet he has not found a place… which is a first for us because typically food and bev is light years away from monmouth county.
Over all don’t miss out if you love coffee, you will not be disappointed !

Small coffee shop with the basic coffees from South and Central America. Well made and tasty! A great place to caffine up for a road trip home!

Simply put… absolutely the BEST!!! From the quality of the personally brewed cup of coffee to the friendly neighbor service that you get every single day! Rook Coffee Roasters brings back the pride in business ownership and it shows in everything they do… congrats!!!
Date: 10/15…Unfortunately, I have the change my thoughts on Rook. The quality of the coffee isn’t the same or as good and the service at Little Oak is HORRIBLE!!!
I hope things go back to my first paragraph bc I really want Rook to continue to succeed.

There is nothing I love more in life than coffee. And local coffee, puts the AMERICAN in my americanO.
I had a fantastic cup off Rook Coffee at Black Gold Records in Brooklyn. After that cup, I became mildly obsessed with finding the time, and transportation to get out to one of their shops in South Jerz. Mission, drink their cold brew and buy as many as seen fit.
So $ 80 later, 6 32oz bottles of cold brew, and one large one to go for the road, I felt I hit the coffee junkie jackpot. I did the math with my coffee drinking ways, and these should last me about 20 days.
The beauty of the cold brew is that it is a concentrate, so it will last at least 3 weeks after opened and all you have to do is add ice and your favorite dairy/​non-​dairy product.
I’m praying to the coffee gods that Rook makes their cold brew available online for ordering as I would surely order a monthly supplies worth.
Kudos to the staff also at this location as they were fantastic.
