Beach Bum Tanning Astoria 1

$ 28 for a 10 minute session? WHY?
PLEASE, someone tell me WHY.
that’s like 170 USD per HOUR, in a country where minimum wages are still under $ 8 per hr.
This is INSANE. This is completely and utterly INSANE.
There was a nice tanning saloon right next to Café Bene on 41^st street and Queens Blvd. I bought a 16 session package from them last year for $ 124, that’s around $ 7.5 per session. The package was valid for 365 DAYS. Beach Bum packages expire in 30.
Too bad they went outta business. Why? You need to ask yourselves the question.
Because EVERYTIME I went there the place was TOTALLY empty. Nobody cared. Nobody even bothered to pay these guys a visit.
People want something fancy, something whatever, then as soon as they start feeling they’re being ripped off openly, they come on Unilocal belly aching about the price.

I’ve been coming here for about a year now. Friendly staff pretty clean and I love their stand up booths. If you live in the area I highly recommend :)

Great service and clean! Amanda was Really friendly and sweet. I used the mystic spray tan.

AVOID LIKE PLAGUE! After showing up late a few days ago I used this service for the first time in order to get a little color before going on vacation. When I showed up the attendant was standing outside smoking on his cell phone. Strike one. I ask for the basic tanning bed and as I walk in everything seems to be in order. After using what is clearly an out of date machine I had big white lines running up and down my legs from where the light wasn’t concentrated and the next day I wake up to a staff infection!!! Clearly no one cleans the unit properly and now I have to go on antibiotics during my vacation which also means I spend my entire vacation indoors because you cant go out in the sun on antibiotics. Thanks Beach Bum Tanninng for the most epic failure of a service and ruining my vacation! Good Job.

WOW! Terrible. I wanted to give 0 stars. I went in for a 10 minute session for $ 28.63… Paid cash. I went in, undressed, machine went off after 4 minutes. I had to get dressed to go out and tell someone. The girl said ‘Well the computer says you were in for 10.’ She put 6 more minutes on acting as if I just wanted more time. I go back in, undress AGAIN, and machine wouldn’t turn on at all! So I get dressed AGAIN, come out and girl came in & said ‘wait for fan to turn off. It just has to cool down.’ So I go back in, undress AGAIN, and wait, and wait, and fan wouldn’t shut off. Get dressed a THIRD time and told the girl I just wanted my money back. She wouldn’t give me my money back! WTF. Said they don’t do refunds but she’ll honor the 10 minutes another time. I’m sorry, but I should’ve gotten all my cash back PLUS a complimentary session for having dress and undress 3 freaking times! Best part is that while I was asking for my money back 2 other beds broke in two other people. I’m blown away at the way this business is run. Whatever happened to good customer service.

I’ve been coming here for years! Their staff is always nice and friendly. The rooms are always clean and neat.

It serves the purpose! But staff is not overly friendly. Last time I went, I got a room with no towel& no music. Thank goodness 12 minutes goes by quickly. I also do not like the stickers you get now for your eyes. They used to give the re-​usable plastic eye protectors.

Management addressed the concerns I had regarding my poor experience at my last visit. They are on top of their business 110% and address their customer’s concern appropriately.
My tan up the block tonight at the other beach bum was great. Went here because it’s on the way home. Feels great on a freezing winter night. They have my favorite contoured avantguard bed which is more comfortable on my back because its curved rather than flat. Bulbs were strong and the music can be heard perfectly in the room.
Everything worked perfect and the guy working there who sold me my package last time kept the place spotless.
Will return again :)

I used to dislike this place however, since they changed the staff I’ve been liking the place more and more. They have a friendly counter person and as usual, the prices are great. I’ll definitely keep coming back to this beach bum

I have no idea why I would come back here. I went to tan today and now I’m suffering from a «sun» burn.
I asked the girl which machine is good for someone who burns easily being that last time I went they put me on a machine that I couldn’t stay in for more than 5 minutes bc of how hot it got (like intolerably hot) and she insisted to put me in the platinum level and of course I winded up getting the same bed as last time. Also the place has become so disgusting, the room and bed was filthy in some kind of dust that I’m assuming came from the room next door that was getting renovated but still no excuse.
I must say planet fitness down the block that’s a gym has better machines that don’t burn you and is way cheaper also. It’s sad that beach bums are the only tanning salons left in Astoria and I have no idea how they stay in business. I really don’t think they care about their customers anymore. Never again !

No homo, but the girls that work here are so pretty that I would probably buy whatever they told me too… yet they never take advantage of that. Every time I buy a tan here they offer me a package that throws a few in free. This is the only location in Astoria that has a Mystic spray tanning machine, and although some tanning junkies knock it, I love that I can get a quick spray tan here without having to make an appointment like I do for an airbrush.

I have never been to tanning salon but I feel that I needed a base so I won’t burn when I go to Florida soon and the guy at the front desk talked me through the different options, which would be best to use as a base, how everything works, explained some lotion options. Just by looking at him you would not guess that he would ever work at a tanning salon but he was very informative, polite and helpful. I got the Platinum. The bed was clean, worked well, had nice adjustments for air conditioning. The bed definitely got the job done. I just think it is over priced on a whole which is why it is knocked to 4 stars, other than that, great first experience.

I absolutely hate the fact that Beach Bums are the only options of tanning left in Astoria nowadays!
I miss the good old days when there was a Hollywood Tans a block away from this Beach Bum. It was so cheap and you got a great color there. I even used to travel to 2^nd avenue on the upper east side to go to Hollywood Tans but now that location closed so I’m stuck going to beach bum.
Let’s see why I don’t like Beach Bum.
a) they’re ridiculously expensive
b) they’re packages expire within 30 days
c) the beds are horrible, the cheapest bed feels extremely claustrophobic and the most expensive beds feel like you’re burning the whole time it’s way too hot and you burn in them (titanium level)
d) the staff is nice but not too helpful I must add
Also the color from Beach Bum does not last! You have to keep going back in order to keep the tan you have. At Hollywood i would tan for a month and the next couple of months I would stop and still have color.

I’ve been going to Beach Bum tanning since 2007. This location has the most Horrible customer service. I went to get a promotional package advertised on the company’s website. Raquel, the rep at the counter wasn’t able to process the promo. She said AJ the manager has to do it. She couldn’t get him on the phone nor was he present the other 2 times I came back. If a company offers a promotion, they should be able to honor it. Simple as that. Enough said. I will gladly give the management the opportunity to rectify this matter and adjust this rating accordingly.

I am NOT a fan of beach bum tanning ! I have used both salons in Astoria several times and they are totally overpriced, this particular location has a very rude and lazy staff, me and my sister came here once at 2 am the place stunk of weed, obvi not good for business lol .Even when i use their best beds that are not cheap at all i do not get good color unless i go everyday for like a week straight which is pointless to me, Not the cleanest either ! I miss Hollywood tans when it was on Steinway, way cheaper, cleaner and better tanning booths !

This Beach Bum location near 34^th Ave on Steinway is the best tanning option I have found in Astoria so far. They have a decent selection of beds all the way up to premium or «diamond level» beds. The staff are generally friendly and accommodating. I gave 3 stars because the salon itself is a little dated and not always the cleanest, could definitely use a refresh. The prices are also a bit high.
Take away: All else aside I like the selection of tanning beds here, and that is why I continue to go back!

Normal and typical BB. Nice staff and never crowded. Can’t complain :).
