Cannelle Lic

Amazing pastries and very reasonably priced. Sometimes the line can be long but it’s worth the wait! My friend and I tried the almond croissant, canale, cheese Danish, fruit tart. All were delicious. My favorites were the canale (crunchy exterior and moist, custardy inside) and the almond croissant (very crusty exterior and rich almond paste). These were some of the best I’ve ever had. I had to go back a second time during my trip and walked 2 miles to get them!

Average coffee. No wireless on weekends. They explained to me because it gets really busy. It was empty. I feel like (even limited) WiFi is a must for a coffee shop so I would never return here.

We started hanging out in LIC since April and have been to Cannelle over 5 times. Everything we’ve tried have been delicious. I love their Cannelle but didn’t realize just how superior they were until I had one from Bisous Ciao last week (good for macarons tho). We’ve had their Kouin Amann, pain au chocolat, almond croissant, chocolate chip cookie, chocolate éclair and mango sorbet in addition to their signature Cannelle — all were delicious. We plan to go back again soon to try their macarons and sandwiches. What a gem in LIC.

I am usually not a fan of bakery items. That was before I tasted the Espresso 31. Glorious! I want more! My family also enjoyed what they are– the praline crunch bar, the chocolate tart, and the Black Forest cake. Will have to come back and try some more goodies. Their breads looked delicious too!

I went in this nice looking café for a French cake and coffee. I was waited front of cake showcase but the stuff were not taking oder from me. Instead she took oder from a couple came after me and she even asked another customer came after. Finally, she took my oder with a big attitude. Maybe she didn’t like my looks or she hates her job… I left the shop and I found the signboard said“My boss asked me to change sign. So I changed”. Maybe she hates her boss too.
Very unprofessional. Cake was great. But I don’t feel like going back.

When I came in and ask if I order and the checkout for tea the manager looked me up and down and ignored me. No greetings no hello just a cold unhappy face. She also isn’t a true barista and the machine is like Starbucks you just push buttons. She also wasn’t foaming her milk well. I asked for a large tea and asked if it comes with two tea bags they said no only one. So I’m getting charged more for water? So I bought two small teas for the extra tea bag whatever. It’s suppose to be gourmet and a good French bakery my review is based on customer service and their coffee/​tea drink which all fall short.

I have died and gone to traditional macaron heaven. I don’t usually like caramel, and their salted caramel is amazing. So are the espresso, pistachio, chocolate, and lychee raspberry.
And, the bite is a perfect proportion of filling to cookie.
Thus, GO. Especially if ready to surrender to the macaron side of the force. (Your wallet will be lighter because these darlings are not cheap. But you won’t mind in the long run. Especially when you need boss, holiday, client, and birthday gifts in a jiffy and EVERYONE loves what you bring.)
I also look forward to making a trek up to see the original!

Excellent buttery crust on my pear tart. Not overly sweet or sticky. Very good coffee.

Stopped in for a coffee and tea. The latte was good and creamy. The only decaf or herbal tea offered is camomile. The pastries looked pretty generic, though I didn’t try any.

I love Canelle, for bringing high quality French pastries at affordable prices to Queens, so I will give them 4 stars and the benefit of the doubt for a less than glowing experience. This outpost of the original Jackson Heights bakery perhaps suffers from not having the kitchen on the premises. I tried the Paris Brest in anticipation of eating it, expecting to buy more pastries for friends and family. But after eating it, I decided to abstain. Like all of Canelle’s baked goods, it was beautiful. But choux is a delicate pastry, and yet the one I ate didn’t taste eggy and light, but sodden a bit, almost as if it had been sitting for a while. The cream was much too heavy for the pastry, tasting more like praline buttercream, than the whipped cream or Swiss cream that might have been a better match. Perhaps they use a heavier cream because it holds better after time. It’s not the pastry I would buy again and I wondered if the consistency was different than it should have been, because it was a late weekday afternoon when I went and they don’t have the turnover of the Jackson Heights place (I find the same turnover problem with Maison Kayser’s pastries and stopped buying them after one try). When I arrived, there were only 3 whole cakes, but a slew of pastries, gelato, macarons and only about 5 breads left. The lady explained they couldn’t keep so many cakes around because of the space and turnover. Smart. Service, was warm. This location is beautiful, with a painting of the Eiffel tower on one wall and marble tables and seating also by the huge glass windows. One a quiet day, the ambience is relaxing. On a busy, nice day, you can take your pastry or gelato to go to the nearby Gantry Plaza State park for a view as you chomp away. I made a specific trip just to try out this location but I think for the future, I’d travel to the further Canelle for a sure bet for my French pastries.

Pastries and sandwiches are top notch. Coffee is good. The bread is awesome. The staff is nice.
This place is also great for picking up beautiful tasty deserts to bring to parties.
P. S. for parents: For the love of all that is holy please dont let your kids run around. The staff will never say anything but everyone is thinking it.

I was excited to have more of this place so I went inside (and there was no line!)! I stood there for at least four minutes and not one of the four women workers greeted me, asked for my order or even asked me to wait a second (if they had been busy, of course). I put my hands up and walked out, not one person tried to stop me or ask for my order at that point.
Unprofessional.

I came here after having it bookmarked here for so long.
It was pretty good, but I’ve had better.
There is plenty of parking in the lot.
I had the crème puffs which was very good. It was light and airy.
The chocolate éclair was okay. It was kind of too dense for my taste.
Their iced latte was delicious though.

Everything I have had here so far has been delicious. I ordered a birthday cake the day before I needed it a few weeks back — it was a coconut and strawberry mousse cake. Absolute heaven ! Also had the individual ones shortly after: Napoleon, chocolate cake and a mango kiwi. All of them were super delicious. Our favorite bakery in the neighborhood.

I’ve had macarons and croissants from Canelle’s a couples times and it was great, but this review will specifically be about their creole cake which I’ve had multiple times. As a chocolate lover, the creole cake is pretty close to perfection especially since it isn’t overly sweet. If you love chocolate anything, I would highly recommend trying the creole cake. I love it so much that I dropped in here to ask if they did wedding cakes and lucky for me they do at their Jackson Heights location. The cake far exceeded my expectations and came out absolutely gorgeous! I would highly recommend Cannelle without a doubt if you are looking for a wedding cake, it is absolutely worth the trek to Jackson Heights. For NYC, I find the prices to be very reasonable given the quality of what you get.

Not a good experience at Cannelle’s today unfortunately.
It started with a lil attitude I got from the waitress. Apparently she felt it was my fault for not being familiar with their pastries and what they look like :-) I mean you have a red dome-​like desert next to a sign that says «red velvet», what do you expect one to think? Anyway, it was a good, tasty red color espresso desert — not red velvet.
Their hot drinks, however, are not handcrafted. If you don’t mind drinks from a cappuccino machine, then it won’t be a problem for you. I do mind, so it was an issue for me.
It was very noisy and heavily frequented by stay-​home mums and all their stay-​home kids. But then again, that’s LIC piers — it’s like that everywhere. So don’t take this as a complaint mums, just as a disclaimer.
They claim to have available free wifi mon-​fri but their password code is a joke! No one can decipher that. Not only it’s a 19 character long random password, but you can’t tell whether it’s a «9» you’re seeing or a «g», is it an «o» or a «0»?? I tried for some good 10 minutes and just gave up and left. In my opinion, you either get it done properly (meaning, set up the network and give a legible password code you lazies!), or don’t offer free wifi at all.
It might work best if you order something to take out. And hey, it’s a nice bakery, right there in your hood, for your kids next birthday.

So just wanted to point out that Canelle is keeping a great French tradition alive for the epiphany in LIC, the gallette des Rois is something really special you celebrate in France (and also in other countries in Europe) for the arrival of the 3 kings to praise JC. In this case it is an almond cake with a favor hidden inside, that makes you king or queen of the day, a definite must try and available till end of January. and trust me even in France they don’t have the chance to have a gallette that taste that great. our son loves it, young and old guests loved it and despite they fact that we had already at least 8 in January I am getting scared that January is getting to the end and we will have to wait a while year to have it back, so trust me and try it it is AMAZING!

Favorite bakery in LIC. Actually I have a serious doubt about the abundance of businesses in general in LIC. so in my mind’s eye… this is the only bakery in LIC. Lol. I love this place for their desserts. The Creole definately will fix your chocolate craving. It’s a dark chocolate dessert with chocolate moose, and flat chocolate pieces all around it. The pear tart was pretty good but not so memorable. I LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED their summer pastry, the raspberry/​pistaschio tart. My GOODness the fruit was so fresh, and I absolutely adored the combination of flavors. The croissants are pretty good as well, with almond croissant being my favorite. I did not like their baguette so much because it was. very hard… Perhaps theyre supposed to be that way but damn the roof my mouth hurt. I love that they offer savory sandwiches. Staff is always friendly. No parking watsoever, but you may get lucky one block ahead around Duane Reade/​Food Cellar. They take credit cards.

Buy the baguette, you will not be disappointed. Indulge in the pastries, you will not be disappointed. Um… yeah, just go here when you’re in the neighborhood… you will not be disappointed.

I tried the chocolate chip cookie and it had walnuts, which was great. It added to the texture of the cookie. Also their hot chocolate was heavenly. It wasn’t too sweet or too chocolatey. It was one of the best hot chocolates I have ever tasted!

I finally came to this bakery! So me & my bf had a break from class & we decided to come to this bakery. I ordered a hot chocolate & elephant ear. The hot chocolate was served in a cute mug. It was so good! Perfect amount of chocolate & sweetness; it was so creamy. The elephant ear had this glaze & was so tasty. My boyfriend had hot chocolate as well as an elephant ear. We didn’t have much time or else I would have ordered other things to try.
The service was pleasant. The cashier was very sweet & welcoming. The ambience of the bakery is so calm & soothing. I love the tables & décor & i would def. come back to read a book & drink a cup of coffee. I will be sure to come back & try their cheesecake as well as their sandwiches and other drinks :)

GAH desserts! Came here because of the good reviews and needed desserts.
I love everything we got, especially the éclair. Bought the desserts and sat by the water to enjoy the view. They also make good lattes.

Coffee is good, pastries are good. I haven’t tried the desserts, so can’t say.

I took away 1 star because it is just slow/​unorganized when there is a line. Management really needs a better process for how orders are taken, prepared, and who rings you up at the cashier. It’s not efficient for 1 staff to do all 3. Also, need to speed up service — it’s too slow.
Other than that, I’m happy they are in LIC!

It’s a cool place, all modern and stuff. But seriously, they have a pastry chef who knows what he’s doing. My friend talked about the cannel, of which she is a connoisseur. She said it was done perfectly, meaning crispy on the outside but completely soft on the inside. Apparently, it’s a huge challenge. The gelato were also pretty great. I had the almond and berry yogurt flavors, which were en point. I got the 6 ounce size, which was way too big. You get a choice of two flavors regardless of the size you get, so you might as well get the small.

This place is amazing. A friend had brought me a cake 3 years ago from here called the Honore cake and since then I have never looked back. This is like heaven for those who like sweets and coffee. Came here yesterday to pick up a cake for my birthday. I got the 8″ red velvet. The decoration on the cake was beautiful and the cake was delicious, moist and not too sweet. The price is also just right. This cake was only $ 24 and sever about 15 people. The staff was super friendly and helpful and were able to help us pick out a great cake for a last minute dinner. I will be coming back here many more times. The staff has informed me that to get a specific cake like the Honore it is best to pre order or come very early. They open at 6 am and sell out fast. I love this place.

Man oh man the red velvet cake my sis got for her bday party here is the best I have tasted in a long time. The dough is light and airy with just enough sweetness. The cream cheese frosting is perfectly sweet and dense to complement the cake. There were also little pieces of brownies on the top to decorate the cake. The price was pretty good too 24 for an 8inch.
We had actually gone in to pick up a St. Honore cake but were told by the server that they go fast and should either be ordered in advance or picked up early in the day (we came at 6 in the evening on a Saturday). We had the cake before when one of my friends brought it to a brunch. We love the vanilla crème pastries on the cake that have a sweet caramel sauce drizzled on top. My sis and I plan to get the cheesecake and St. Honore cake for Xmas eve, we will make it a coffee date to make sure we pick up our cakes early this time:)

It’s been a moment I wanted to check this relatively new French bakery. I finally decided to give a try yesterday (it was on a Saturday morning) for a French breakfast treat!
Of course, there was a line, which is usually a good sign to me, meaning products must be good here.
I was nicely greeted by the girls in the front, and I told them that I wanted to treat myself today :) Monica (they have a little badge with their name, which is a great idea) put me in the right direction. She suggested me to get the chocolate croissant (which was OMG! crispy, flaky and really rich in chocolate — most of bakeries put 1 chocolate bar, this one has 2).
She also suggested some Danish. I picked the passion guava which is one to die for! I also try their cheese Danish which was really good as well.
With the pastries I got a cappuccino that was perfectly executed. I think they use La Colombe and you can’t go wrong with that.
That was really the perfect French breakfast I was hoping to have that day!
While I was on the way to leave, I looked at the display and noticed they have a great section for breakfast (croissant, Danish) and an impressive selection of cakes.
I will definitely come back to indulge myself for an afternoon treat with the mille-​feuille (Napoleon) that looks amazing!

Disorganized bad service. Coffee comes from cheap automatic espresso machine. Croissants are nicely crispy on the outside but dripping soggy on the inside probably because of cheap ingredient substitutes.
Admittedly, croissants are hard to make properly and the croissants here are slightly better than many places, but combine that with a cheap coffee machine and poorly trained staff and it ends up being a pretty disappointing experience.
Nothing they couldn’t easily fix with a bit of effort but it seems they don’t care because there’s very little competition in the area.

They have also a large selection of cake.
Had a little chit chat with the owner, who is french, really nice, friendly .
And for LIC, Price are really affordable.

Having a good French pastry option in LIC is welcomed on many levels. I enjoyed a chocolate croissant, almond croissant, and a delicious tart. The prices are reasonable for the quality. Ordering can be a bit difficult if busy, but the customers all seem happy with the product.

Wow! Great pastries. I almost felt like I’m back in Paris. I had the chocolate croissant and it was buttery, flaky, and airy. All the components when comes to a great croissant. We also had the éclair and it was 75% good. I didn’t know it was filled with chocolate cream which was a little too much on the sweet side and over decadent. I didn’t have the coffee but it looked good.

Love this French pastry in LIC! There is not much around our area when it comes to bakery or patisserie so this is surely welcome by the neighborhood. I love how it is family friendly, spacious and delicious at the same time! I really enjoyed their éclair and mango moose cake.
Can’t wait to try other pastries here!

The pear tart is really good. You have to try it. The textures of the crust and the pear are both exactly on point. The space is also huge with comfortable seating. Free wifi Monday to Friday.

On my way to the waterfront in Long Island City, I saw this cute bakery out of the corner of my eye. I had been in the area once before but never noticed a French bakery before. I decided to give it a shot.
I walked in and saw a decent selection of French pastries, breads and other treats. They also have coffee and sandwiches. I asked the cashier when the place opened. She said Thursday, which was 3 days before this review was written. I decided on a croissant and a bottle of water. I figured this: If the croissant sucks, all else must suck. I paid about $ 4 for both items. Not terrible.
I took one bite of the croissant and I almost cried tears of joy. It was absolutely delicious. It was crispy and flaky but also light and chewy. And the buttery flavor just overwhelmed me. What had I been missing out on my whole life? Totally an A+ in my book!
Now I’ll have to try other things like coffee and see if my 5 stars are truly deserved.
