Came here based on their high ratings. I came in for an oil change, a windshield wiper replacement, and to tighten a side mirror. The owner, John, had the tasks aside from the oil change done on the house. He was very gracious when I told him that I came to his shop because of their Unilocal ratings. Very nice guy. Will definitely return!

These guys are amazing. I brought my car in for a 30,000 mile checkup, which includes oil and filter change. They suggested we postpone the oil change since the oil was still very clean. They checked the car out thoroughly, including rotating the tires and trouble shooting a warning light, and didn’t charge a thing. I’m thrilled to discover such capable mechanics so convenient to Manhattan. I’d describe them as honest, but that’s really understating it.

I really feel comfortable with these guys. I’ve been here for a number of repairs over the past couple of years. Oil change, inspection, replacement of a snapped hood latch, etc. My 2004 Honda Civic (135,000 miles) began having trouble with the heat back in January of 2013. After a great recommendation, I took it to Salerno in Williamsburg, twice, and, although very friendly and attentive, both times I specifically asked them to flush the heater core and both times they recommended and sold me something else (first, thermostat — a year later water pump). I didn’t come across Champion until that second year (January 2014), and, since I had already been to Salerno and I knew that they understood my problem, I foolishly took it back to them instead of bringing it to Champion.
Come December of 2014, a friend told me that he would take my car to the Hyundai dealership that he worked at to flush the heater core. His colleague previously worked for Honda, and, with his help they flushed the heater core (helped with the heat!) and diagnosed that I had a bad wheel bearing on my passenger rear tire. I don’t drive it much anymore, but I rely on it heavily in the winter to get to my parent’s house 45 miles away where I’m needed due to an illness in my family. At higher speed on the highway, the wheel started making this horrible noise, so I finally decided to bring it to Champion to fix the wheel bearing. The «check engine» light had also recently come on and I knew I was due for an inspection this month, so I needed to bring it in, pronto.
Chris was very helpful and called me within a few hours to let me know that my wheel bearing was fine and it turned out I just needed new tires. I had a blow out on the highway back in November and I had a tire put on the rear driver’s side and it seemed to have messed with the other rear tire (tire balancing is REAL). He also suggested that the check engine light was due to a small fracture crack in my fuel cap (serves me right for letting someone sort of careless borrow my car). He suggested I go pick up some new tires that he could mount and that he’d replace the fuel cap, but I’d need to drive it for 60 miles without the check engine light coming back on before I could get the inspection. They also did an oil change. What I thought would cost me over $ 500 cost about half. He suggested that I change the Serpentine belt because it makes a squeal when I turn on the AC, but he said it wasn’t important at the time. I took it in for its inspection yesterday and it passed! I asked them for a quote for the belt and plan to bring it back in in a few months. I seriously will not take my car anywhere else. These guys are great!

Great crew of guys. From the owners down the the employees. Couldn’t ask for better service! They do a great job and for the right price. You can leave knowing the job is done and won’t need to come back for some other problem like most shops do. Stop on in if you have a problem or if you just need an oil change or inspection. You won’t regret it.

So, I had been storing my moped at a storage unit nearby Champion for the winter. Today, I went and got it out and was ready to bring it back home for the warmer months. As soon as I started the thing, a nut that holds the chain in place popped right off and it was impossible for me to get it back in place by hand. I decided my only option was to walk the moped home. Home is over 4 miles away, and the moped weighs over 100 lbs, so I wasn’t very happy that I was going to be hunched over pushing the thing home for the next few hours, but what else could I do?
Luckily, with some miracle, a few blocks later I spotted Champion. I knew they were an auto shop and wouldn’t service a moped, but since I knew what the problem was and I had the nut and washer, I thought it would be stupid to not ask to see if they could help and save me hours of pushing that weight up the road.
As soon as I walked out front, two of the guys came out just because they wanted to see what my moped was all about. I told them what had happened and that even though they don’t service mopeds, would they maybe take a look at it for me?
Fifteen minutes later I was on my way home again, with the moped running like new. They were able to get into the right spot and get everything back together, and they moved my back tire back for me as well to try to avoid the chain coming off because it was pretty loose.
They didn’t make me feel like an idiot for asking them about a moped, they were friendly and helpful and these guys really saved my day. I was in for a hell of a walk home, and they went out of their way to help me out, all at no charge. I have a car, too, and next time I need service I know exactly where I’m taking it.
Thank you guys so much! You made my day a lot better, and it won’t be forgotten. You will have a new customer for my car without a doubt.

As a small town girl from Vermont I’ve been extremely skeptical of where to find a good and honest NY mechanic. After a year of taking my car over an hour away to Long Island or waiting to visit Vermont for any repairs I finally took a leap of faith and ventured to my first NYC mechanic. Best decision I’ve made in New York to date!
From my experience, so far, people love to take advantage of a 5 ft, tiny Vermont chick at every turn (especially when it comes to cars, as I have very little mechanical knowledge). John and his staff forever changed my view of New Yorkers, in general. It’s no joke, really great people DO exist in the wonderful state of New York. John was so kind, respectful and honest. He made it very clear that he wouldn’t want people taking advantage of his own daughter so he had no intention of doing that to me.
The prices were exceptionally reasonable and my overall experience was so refreshing after many tough times in this big city. Thanks John and Milly, you guys made my day!!! An oil change, inspection, and headlight repair later I can highly recommend Champion and encourage you to pay them a visit… and, of course, tell all your friends.

These guys are true «mechanics» — they go to the effort to figure out what’s going wrong with your car. I brought in a funky squeak and I’m sure the dealer would have started replacing control arms etc at $$$. These guys had the intuition to simply retorque the entire suspension — viola it was solved. Really great folks, friendly, convenient location to the 7 train.

My headlight went out, so I went to AutoZone and purchased a light bulb hoping to save myself some money and change it myself. Unfortunately, this didn’t work out as planned. Lol.
I’m new to the Sunnyside area so I turned to Unilocal to check out a few mechanics and Champion caught my eye as most reviews stated that they were honest and the prices were reasonable. Well, the reviews were pretty accurate. John, the owner, helped me right away and had one of his mechanics change the light bulb and also check all the fluids in the car. Service was speedy and very attentive. When I asked him to direct me to the front desk so that I could pay my bill, he told me it was on the house. This is something that I really appreciated because I know that if I would have taken my car to another mechanic for something so simple, not only would I have been charged, but there is a good chance I would have been OVER-​charged.
I would definitely take my car back to Champion for routine maintenance and repairs.

Came here on a weekend for an oil change. I was greeted by John, the owner, who got things started for me immediately. The entire transaction was very speedy and pleasant. The price was excellent as well. They do almost all kinds of automotive services and repairs here, and I would definitely come here when I need more work done.

It is very hard to find a good and HONEST mechanic around these days. I can trust John @ Champion to take care of any of my mechanic needs. Prices are very reasonable and the customer service is excellent. I have an auto body shop and I recommend all my customers for mechanical work to Champion.
