Lucky Paws

This place is wonderful. They’ve been taking my rather rambunctious little terrier for walks, daycare and boarding for 6 months now and they do such a great job with her. She’s got so much better at walking on the lead since she started taking daily group walks and she’s always happy to see the staff whenever we pass them in the street.
I’ve been home a few times when we’ve had the dog walker come and I can confirm that they always take when out for a full hour. My dog loves daycare so much that she pulls to be taken there whenever we walk near the building.
Olivia is great — very accommodating to schedule changes and always sends videos so I can see how my dog is getting along while she’s in Boarding. There are several other dog walkers/​daycares in LIC, but I’;m so impressed with Lucky Paws that I wouldn’t ever consider switching.

I couldn’t have picked a better place for my baby Cleopatra. She loves her days at Lucky Paws. Olivia, Jay and the staff are wonderful. I definitely recommend Lucky Paws for those looking for a daycare.

I have a dog who loves people but doesn’t always play well with other dogs, and swallows everything he can get his mouth on. As you can imagine, this creates a challenge in locating a doggy daycare that can accommodate this without putting him or other dogs at risk. Until Lucky Paws came along & my boyfriend found it on Unilocal!
Lucky Paws has been a blessing to us. Olivia and Jay have shown incredible professionalism and dedication to the well-​being of my dog, who has only thrived and benefited from being there. He would come home exhausted from being in their stimulating environment, where he would get lots of petting and attention from their staff without being in contact with other dogs. They made sure he got plenty of exercise and water throughout the day. Other perks include:
1. Excellent bath, which is not the cheapest ($ 75 for a 65-​pound dog) but worth every dollar for its quality. The bath includes cleaning of the ears and teeth, and trimming of his nails.
2. Pick up and drop off service! For a small fee but worth it.
3. Incredibly dedicated owners and staff, which I already mentioned:)
4. Dog boarding with 24-​hour staff supervision. They followed my instructions precisely to make sure my dog, who’s prone to swallow everything in sight, did NOT swallow a thing while boarding.
My dog loves going to Lucky Paws so much he requires much tugging to get him to leave and go home.

Lucky Paws has been a dream come true, I leave my pug Zoe there three times a week and she loves it. She comes home happy and playful and smelling fresh! Not to mention that Jay and olivia are always such a pleasure to chat with. So to my disappointment when I decided to move to Bushwick I was afraid Id have to find a new day care/​groomer but conveniently they pick up and deliver Zoe straight to my door! Were beyond happy and we highly recommend this place to everyone!

Words can only begin to describe how happy my husband and I are with Lucky Paws! Our nearly 2 year old shih tzu bichon frises, Brooklyn, has been going to Lucky Paws for over a year now. She is walked daily, groomed monthly, boarded (cage-​free) for our trips away (about 10 nights total this year), and occasionally we take her over for full-​day play dates. The staff is friendly and they treat Brooklyn as if she were their own. They also keep Brooklyn very safe by separating dogs according to size and demeanor. She’s always so excited to get there! The owner, Olivia, is both kind and knowledgeable; she gives excellent advice and has helped us train Brooklyn. During each visit, we receive a text message with pictures/​videos of Brooklyn having a good time. For grooming, Brooklyn comes home looking exactly as we asked and always has a cute bow or bandanna. Lucky Paws is also very convenient for us because they offer pick-​up and drop-​ff services. We know that Brooklyn will be very well taken care of each visit, and that’s so comforting when we can’t always be with our doggie. We’ll continue to be loyal clients of Lucky Paws because of Olivia and her team’s excellent service!

This place is fantastic. I have been using Lucky Paws since over a year now and I couldn’t be happier with their service. The staff is wondeful and they treat my Daisy like a little princess. This is the first place that Daisy loves going to — she literally pulls me from the subway all the way to their door step. Sometimes I ask myself if I even need to escort her ;) she would find her way to daycare without my help.
I frequently travel for work and most of the times it is last minute. Lucky Paws has been very accommodating and a true life saver. With Daisy at daycare I can go to work at ease and know she is loved and well taken care off — especially when I get the most adorable pictures send to my cell. Olivia and Jay are extremely nice and you can tell they love each and every pup as if it were their own. It is amazing to know that Daisy is having a blast while I am away.
I highly recommend Lucky Paws to everyone who is looking for a daycare that truly cares about dogs. The whole staff is professional and extremely helpful! I am so happy I found them.

We recently moved to LIC and in need of a new dog walker/​boarder/​daycare for our two chihuahuas. We stopped by Lucky Paws to see the place in person and it was quite nice. However, the staff member we dealt with did not seem to know much about the services, but did offer us a pamphlet.
The next visit we made to Lucky Paws was for a doggy day care session for both dogs on a Saturday to do a trial run. We met Olivia the owner who was very nice so we left feeling good about leaving our dogs behind for the day. They do pickup and drop off, which for two extremely busy professionals was a huge plus! We got back to the apartment around 6pm and were pleased to see each dog sitting in his/​her crate after being delivered while we were out. We thought we had found the perfect place!
A few days later we decided to call Lucky Paws to find out how the older dog did. The staff member who answered the phone said she did not know anything about how they did, but after asking if someone else would know she put us on hold and came back to say that they did well. She said if we liked, she can have the owner call us, which we said was fine. We then asked her if we could set up a dog walk for them the next day. She said she was not able to schedule that, but would have the owner call to confirm. We were annoyed that nobody but the owner seemed to know what’s going on there, but thought the daycare went well so we kept the dog walking schedule. Olivia did call us back about an hour later to set up the dog walk.
The day of the dog walk I went to work and later got a voice message from Olivia saying there was a problem. When I spoke to her, she told me the dog walker opened one cage and the first dog ran into the bedroom under the bed. He then opened the other crate hoping it would bring the other dog out from under the bed and that dog also ran under the bed. So the dog walker was unable to take them out because they were growling and barking. She asked me what I wanted them to do, and I was at work so I said there is nothing we can do right now. So the dog walker left the dogs free to roam around the apt.
My husband called Lucky Paws right after his meeting and spoke to a member of her staff. He asked what was going on with the dog walk and the staff member had no idea. She said the owner will need to call him back. Olivia finally called back more than 1 hour later and provided the update. He asked if the dog walker had quarantined the dogs in the bedroom and she said no because I never told her to do that. After some back and forth he then asked her if she was planning to charge us for this walk since no dog walk actually occurred, and she said of course because they have provided a service. He told her we would be disputing the charges to which she got angry claiming accidents happen. After arguing back and forth she said «Don’t worry, I won’t charge you the $ 13. I am not going to argue over $ 13.» To her credit, she did offer to go back and try to re-​crate the dogs herself or at least close the bedroom door, but it took a lot of unnecessary arguing to get to that point.
We have had multiple dog walkers in the last 3 years (professional and non-​professional) and have never had this happen before. As a dog care company, they should be better equipped to handle the different behaviors and types of dogs they encounter. Ultimately, a dog running under a bed shouldn’t be a challenge for an experienced dog walker.
For the most part Olivia was professional and does seem to care about dogs. However, she needs to find better ways to communicate with clients when things go wrong. She also needs staff who can answer basic questions or set up appointments. We found the constant need for a call back to be frustrating. Maybe we just had a bad experience? Maybe things would have gone better had we dealt exclusively with Olivia? Either way we won’t be back. I hope the feedback I’m giving her will cause her to pause and rethink how she handles certain customer service situations. These dogs are our kids and she should be more empathetic when a client is upset over a service mishap.

I recently moved into the Long Island City area and I have been looking for a new dog walking/​boarding facility for my dog when I have to leave the city. I visited the business and the worker there was nice. However, my major red flag was the fact that she wouldn’t let me she where the dogs are boarded overnight. My previous dog boarding facility let me tour the entire place which gave me great comfort that my dog was taken care of. At lucky paws, I wasn’t allowed to go past the very front gate. A bit peculiar and not something I am willing to risk. If you have nothing to hide, why don’t you allow patrons to observe where their pets will be staying over night?

Very nice staff and the owner Olivia. I got warm welcomed when I walked in. I live right across thw street，and its my second time have my baby groomed by Lucky Paws.
They did a great job on grooming baby’s hair just like what I told them to do. When I pick up baby she’s clean and beautiful.
She played with other dogs and the good thing about Lucky Paws is, they require dogs to have their vaccine certificates so that they can play with other dogs when they are left inside for half a day or stay overnight.

Lucky Paws took care of my cat while I was on vacation. They visited him in my apartment daily, and he was in great shape when I returned. A bonus is that Lucky Paws is very affordable – less than $ 15/​visit for catsitting.

Took the family pooch Charlie over for some grooming this afternoon– hair trimmed, nails cut, teeth brushed, ears cleaned… everything was done in 90 mins, and he looks (and smells) great!
Olivia, the owner, was very friendly and accommodating. Charlie likes her :)
I personally like when a business does what they say they are going to do, and does it well. What more can you ask for?

We’ve been using lucky paws for our dog Josie for a year now — both for walks and day care — and I really can’t praise them highly enough. Olivia and her team have always gone out of their way to make sure Josie is happy and healthy. On at least a dozens occasions they have fed and walked Josie on very little notice. They are always friendly and responsive (which is important to us because both my husband and I both work unpredictable hours) and, most importantly, Josie absolutely loves it!!!

Lucky Paws has been one of the highlights of living in Long Island City for me and my wife, and especially for Phoggy, our Miniature Australian Shepherd! He wiggles with uncontainable excitement every time we bring him over, or when we run into Olivia, Jay or their staff around the neighborhood.
Phoggy has been to a handful of NYC daycare/​boarding facilities over the years, and none have provided the quality of service and left us feeling as confident in his happiness and wellbeing as Lucky Paws. The daycare facility is open and inviting and SPOTLESS, the boarding facilities make Phoggy feel (a little too much) at home, they’re flexible and accommodating when our plans change last-​minute, and of course Olivia and her team are second to none.
If you’re in the Court Square neighborhood, this is a no-​brainer. If you’re not in the Court Square neighborhood, Lucky Paws is worth the walk :)

Got to say, this place really knows how to groom a husky! This isn’t something most places know how to do properly (especially around LIC), but if you have a longer haired dog or a dog with multiple coats like a husky definitely go here. The whole process was easy and that staff was nice too.

The people seem extremely nice but I was super disappointed when I took my dog there for daycare. I’m definitely a bit nervous to leave my dog anywhere because I’ve only taken him to one other daycare place. I’m disappointed because they do not walk the dogs — the dogs only go potty in their facility. If you want a walk it’s extra $$. Also, I did not receive ONE update throughout the day. I did call soon after dropping him off to see how he was doing and was told all was fine. But the rest of the day — nothing. So I have idea how he did other than «he’s fine and is going potty now.»
In contrast, we tried a different daycare a couple blocks away recently, and I received THREE updates throughout the day. Pictures & text messages.
Lucky Paws has a cute facility but I don’t think that matters to dogs. its more for the humans. The other place down the street is bare in terms of decoration, but they walk the dogs during the day (No extra charge) and because I also loved the updates I received, I’ll keep him there at Dog Island City.

If my puppy had a Unilocal account, he’d give this place 5 stars. Skylar loves going to daycare!

My husband and I moved to LIC last winter and couldn’t wait for Lucky Paws to open, as I received rave reviews from a friend about Olivia. After using their services for the past three months, I feel confident in recommending Lucky Paws to any dog owner that wants to make sure their dogs is being cared for and loved in a clean and safe environment.
Olivia and Jay are so fantastic with our almost 3 year old French bulldog BamBam (with full self-​knowledge that Frenchie owners can be a bit neurotic at times). We send Bam to daycare at Lucky Paws and he always comes home completely exhausted, which is amazing! He also comes home CLEAN (we used to send him to a different daycare, and would come home with filthy paws and dirt all over his cream colored coat). You can stop in at any point during the day, and you will see that the entire space is clean, and does not have that dirty dog smell that other daycares sometimes have. It has to be a lot of work to keep everything so clean, so their cleanliness should be acknowledged. Bam LOVES Olivia and always runs to see her on our evening walk (our normal route passes by M. Wells Steakhouse where he must say hello to the host/​hostess and also Lucky Paws where he must get hugs and scratches from Olivia and Jay).
We also recently boarded Bam for 6 nights while we were away for a destination wedding and I was very anxious, being that I had never boarded our dog before. I spoke with Olivia for probably half an hour, asking her tons of questions about how he would be cared for (Would she feed him — dry food + wet food mixed! — according to his feeding schedule? Yes. Would he be walked multiple times a day? Yes. Would she put on his jacket when he goes on his walks? Yes. Would he be playing with other dogs at daycare during his stay? Yes. Yes. Yes.)
The boarding area is upstairs from where the daycare is, and is set up like an apartment with doggies sleeping on the couch or dog beds, or wherever they are comfortable. There is also a rooftop space they’ve turned into a small private dog run, so that the dogs can get some fresh air without necessarily having to go all the way downstairs and outside.
When we got back and brought Bam home, he basically slept for 2 days straight. I did notice a little bit of a mark and redness around his eye. I contacted Olivia to see if anything happened (maybe a fight? Did he run into something?) but she assured me that he had not been in a fight and that it must have happened the day we picked him up (which I believe because she had been sending us photos and videos daily and I went back and checked and did not see any red marks in any of the photos). Dogs are derpy and run into things or scratch themselves, so I just watched his eye area for a few days make sure there was no real trauma. However, the most important thing to note is that Olivia checked in with me at least once a day to check in and see how Bam was doing and to make sure he was OK. Anyone who spends more than 2 minutes with Olivia will be able to see that she loves animals and is an honest and caring business owner.
