New York needs to shut this hospital down permanently. Don’t come here unless you’re dying or have no other choice.
We had a horrible experience here with our 6 month old baby. We waited over THREE HOURS in a dirty room before a doctor saw us. Hello?! A 6 month old baby cannot and should not have to wait hours to see a doctor when it’s an emergency. The wait alone was unacceptable.
The lady at the front desk took our info, we were then sent to a room and briefly checked by a rude and tired looking nurse who asked a few routine questions and seemed distracted. Then we were sent to another room across the hall where there were two beds. The boy in the next bed with his parent had a cast on his leg and was sitting on dirty sheets. There was trash on the floor, plastic bags, wrappers, and a soda can in the corner. The sheets on our bed were stained and ripped and looked used and dirty.
We waited for over three hours before a doctor came to see us. One of the staff members quietly told us to go to Flushing Hospital next time with any baby emergencies.
Dirty hospital, rude and impatient nurses, stained sheets with rips in them, plastic bags and medicine wrappers on the floor, nurses and staff standing around talking about their personal lives in the hallway, no real doctors in sight, unacceptable treatment of patients and visitors, and the absolute slowest service I have ever encountered in medical care in any country. I have visited hospitals in poor, third world countries that have been more competent, better and cleaner.
Unless you are DYING or have no other choice, do not come here.

I had an attack of diverticulitis so I had to go to the ER in the middle of the day. Granted, I had to wait but, it’s NY so that’s to be expected. I ended up spending a week in the hospital and I thought the care was great and everyone, from the people who ran tests on me to the orderlies who wheeled me around were very pleasant. The nurses, especially, were very knowledgeable and attentive. I’m surprised by all the bad reviews.

They are a organization of zero accountability.

Worst hospital I’ve ever been to. Disorganized and inept, took 6 and a half hours just to get an X-​ray on a fractured foot, which the doctor insisted at least 8 times he didn’t think was fractured. If you’re sick and this is the only thing close, death may be the more practical option

Mount Sinai Queens is a local community hospital that has been in Astoria since the 1900’s. From the days of horse and carriage, this hospital has never turned anyone away from care. This hospital was closed down due to lack of city funding then bought and turned into a Maternity hospital called Daly’s Astoria Sanatorium in 1925. in 1949 the name was changed to Astoria General Hospital where they began to expand and build. In the 70’s and 80’s they continued to expand opening facilities within walking distance from the main hospital, offering more services including ambulatory services and laser vascular surgery.
1999 Mount Sinai Hospital (manhattan) bought Astoria General and changed the name to Mount Sinai Queens. This location has 235 beds and growing. New construction is well underway building a bigger, taller, brighter, state of the art facility that includes plans to increase the ER size and ambulatory surgery center. Growing bigger and better to keep up with demands of the community. This hospital also offers many community driven events and programs that encourage health and wellbeing.
The ER is always busy, as is most. The care is fast, sometimes delayed but always personal and professional. Being admitted for IV fluids and observation was done smoothly and effortlessly. The staff works hard and it was a chaotic night so its important to be patient. It’s nice to have magnet hospital close by. Magnet is a recognition that few hospitals are able to obtain. For us, the average person, its a symbol of pride, professionalism and a gold seal of patient care. No hospital is perfect, people are always going to complain, but its nice to acknowledge those who are dedicated to their job. Thank you Mt Sinai Queens!

This hospital has come a long way in making patients feel comfortable. The ER is still an ER… an uncomfortable place, but we experienced proper bedside manner. After being admitted into the hospital, the staff made us feel comfortable. They gave the procedures in a timely manner.

My grandma went there a couple yrs ago was a staying patient n some1 who works there stole her engagement/​wedding ring (it was made into 1 ring). As far as the care goes they don’t seem to go out of their way, sucks if ur old n don’t realize 2 press the stupid help button then again dunno if that would do any good. Spending an extra min n having a good attitude makes it all the better. Btw whoever stole her ring, I hope you get hit by a bus n my granny whoops you in the afterlife.

As I was reading the reviews of this hospital, I was like WHOA! I almost didn’t want to write a review to be honest. Everyone is entitled to their own personal opinion so here goes my simple review.
This was my first visit to this hospital on a personal level as I’ve delivered here in the past in my profession. Upon entering through the automatic doors, there is front desk with hospital and security personnel whom are seated. I’m given swift directions how to get to whom I’m visiting.
Upon arriving on the floor, there are no visible signs to guide you to where you need to go, just a few puzzled faces from the staff. I finally locate the room that I needed. It was clean and spacious, very accommodating for large groups of people. The nursing staff are AMAZING and very ATTENTIVE. We had a lot of questions to ask and they had no problem answering our questions which is definitely a plus in my book.
I’m pleased with the service that they are providing to my friend.

This is the worst hospital because no cares about a patient, you less English speaking employee who just fools around too much, in house Doctor are too busy to visit patient, do not know why? Their priority is not straight, cleanliness is diminished, very unorganized setting, I had to ask several times for in house Doctor to come and see my mom, and still no show, «money hungry people» Don’t take your loved ones or anybody to this hospital, the health of patients will get worse.

I brought my Dad in on Monday. The staff was friendly and made me feel very welcomed from the start of our visit. We were told there would be a wait when I asked but that is expected and was impressed when they used a phone to speak to my Dad in his native language. We were brought to the fast area. My dad was treated and released within 2 hours.
From what I saw the nurses get abused by patients. A man started yelling at a nurse while she was assisting another patient to a stretcher. The PA’s in the fast area were treating patients with colds.
The only issue I had were all the visitors eating and one getting upset at me because my Dad accidentally bumped into her when we were going to the fast area,

Terrible ER. Nurses are unhelpful. Rude and non compassionate. Slow registration. Horrible.

Seemed fine to me.
I went to get a fairly large cut across my knuckle stitched up. Couldn’t write so the nurse offered to fill the paperwork for me. Only took a minute.
I had already stopped the bleeding myself and seemed very calm, still only had to wait about ten minutes before the doctor saw me.
He looked at it, made sure I didn’t damage the tendons, then left. Came back five minutes later, numbed affected area and cleaned it, then sewed it up and put a splint on it. Prescribed an antibiotic and gave me a paper telling me how to care for it.
All in all, I was there for maybe 45 minutes total and everyone involved seemed competent and pleasant enough.
A lot of reviews are citing cleanliness of waiting room as a reason for a bad review. That’s kind of got more to do with the patients than the staff.
I’ll update this review when I get the bill, but as far as everything else was concerned, I’d be hard-​pressed to find a reason to review poorly.

Went here today to take my GF, she was really sick. We got there around 12pm and for our around 2pm.
Not crowded at all, only one patient in front of her and of course they checked her up and gave her some antibiotic. Thanks

Probably the worst ER Ive ever been to. Next time, if im dying and this Hospital is the closest one, I would beg the EMS guy to by pass this Dump at risk of my demose and go to Manhattan or to North Shore. 6 hours wait, No Doctor could see me, only a PA was available and he couldnt figure out what was my status. Its a disgrace, That this Sh** dump is even considered a Hospital. This place would be suited to be a Doll Hospital instead of a Human Hospital. Stay The Hell Away if you value your Life and Health!!!

My review is based on the ER and «Fast Track» Rooms

When in doubt go on your cellphone. Most of the staff in the «Fast Tack» room looked at/​used their cell phone at least once during my last visit.
After being called into the «Fast Track» room you are looked over by a nurse concerning your current ailments. After a bunch of standard questions they will leave you alone behind the curtain for 10 – 30 minutes depending on how busy they are and/​or how long it takes for them to remember you are there.
In my last visit they called a doctor to check on me. Since they didn’t know what my condition was offhand. The doctor was uncertain as well so they went to the computer to research it. The doctor spoke with the nurses just outside the curtain (I could hear them loud and clear) discussing what I had and suggested some random prescription. The hilarious part was that after their conversation they didn’t tell me anything until 20 minutes later where the nurse gave me the prescription.
They left 2 patients waiting for x-​rays (to my left and right) alone for at least 30 minutes. Not until they got up and asked about it were they taken to get the x-​rays. One of them was getting her foot examined to boot. Professionalism at its finest.
I went to a normal doctor the next day and I was told to completely disregard what was given to me at Mount Sinai since they didn’t know what I had.

After reading the reviews of the long wait time in the ER I feel like I’ve gotten off easy both times I arrived. Both my visited averaged about 3 hours being in and out of the hospital, however I waited in the ER about 1.5−2 hours each time and waited about an hour in the fast track area. In other words, of the about 6 hours I have been at Mount Sinai I have been in contact with a nurse/​doctor for about 15 – 20 minutes at most.
On both occasions there was less than 7 people waiting in the ER at the time, and not many following in afterwards.

Trash on the floors.
I got pink eye after my first visit.
I don’t think I need to say anything else about that.

Mount Sinai of Queens is an option that you should never have to utilize. The fact that I once left here with PINK EYE after only arriving with an ear infection should tell you how unsanitary this place really is.
The staff is uncaring and lazy. They rather spend time on their cellphones than deal with other patients.
The doctors lack of knowledge in most areas is rather disturbing.
I had to wait a few days to cool down before writing this review and I still find it scathing.
I personally believe that the majority of the staff in this hospital be terminated and be banned from finding work in the medical field. They are doing more harm than good.

Let me first say to everyone who has reviewed poorly, I am hoping some are following up with the New York Board of Health or any other services directly addressing elderly care.
I am not elderly. I am 40 years old. I am telling you now, hospital was a nightmare.
I called an ambulance. Worst back pain I’ve ever had in my life. I could barely move. 15 years in the food service industry caught up to me.
Tip off #1, the emt’s tell me to moan louder or no one in the ER will tend to me.
Entered at 5pm. 1^st nurse sees me at 8pm. Gives me drugs and tells me «now I can go back to reality».
As I lay in the hallway on a stretcher, orderlies ask me about my iPhone laying on my chest «is that the iPhone 6plus?» And I respond «can I see a doctor?»
Without being examined, a PA tells me at 10:30pm I’m being discharged and the papers are printed. No doctor has examined me. I try to move and the pain is so intense I howl in pain, I’m given more drugs.
By midnight I’m given a cat scan and by 2am I’m checked into a hospital room.
Here are some of what I encountered:
— a nurse asking me to hire her
— a nurse using a dirty towel with human feces on it that wasn’t mine
— dirty bed pan underliners laying on the floor for days
— nurses and doctors implying I could be a drug addict
— doctors not examining me and alluding to conditions I may have
— doctor telling me my MRI results when I never had an MRI
— a nurse telling me some employees steal from patients
— a doctor telling me my cure will be finding «zen»
— a doctor telling me I can cure my back problems by going to «massage parlors»
— being prescribed 11 different drugs that are not suppose to be prescribed together
— being told by doctors and nurses I needed physical therapy but on the weekend there was one physical therapist on duty… I was there 5 days and got 1 physical therapy session I couldn’t do because the therapist came right after many drugs were administered
— physical therapist only spend 15 maximum minutes with a patient. You only have one chance when they see you. You can’t request them to come back later.
— verbal disrespect to the elderly was rampant amongst certain nurses and doctors
— listening to arguments amongst nurses and nursing assistants about who isn’t working enough and who isn’t getting time off
I finally decided enough was enough and I had to escape. I demanded to get transferred to NYU or some other hospital. They wouldn’t do it.
So, I called up a friend and left. Could barely walk but I had to get out.
Now my insurance is fighting with the hospital because they can’t make heads or tails of why I was hospitalized for 5 days with a vague diagnosis of «back pain».
It took almost one month to get a doctor from Sinai to see me after my discharge.
I found a physical therapist through Zoc Doc and being re-​evaluated from scratch.
Because of the time off from work and lack of a proper diagnosis my job now views me as a liability and don’t understand my Sinai doctor’s vague diagnosis so they don’t want me to come back to work.
But boy or boy did they prescribe a litany of drugs.
The Mount Sinai in Queens is a nightmare.
Don’t go.
If you have to go, be sure to follow up with the New York Department of Health like I am.

I get it !!!
ERs are tough and no body wants to go to the place. But I most say as someone who has been in almost every hospital in the city including The Cleveland Clinic this staff clearly cares about its patients. Once you get past the gates of hell we and admitted the staff and the Doctors really are knowledgable and caring. Of course, always come with a eyeshade and earplugs for any length of stay. And to all patients nurses are not waitresses and don’t treat them as such!

Welcome to the worst hospital you’ll ever have the displeasure of entering. Enter the ER and list your personal info and ailments without any semblance of privacy thanks to whatever frat boy-​like member of the FDNY stands directly up your ass snapping his gum and staring at you.
My best experience was when I was transported to this hospital with a severe fever and vertigo. The FDNY worker forced me to walk to the front entrance, despite my repeatedly telling him I was too dizzy and nauseous. After I miraculously stumbled through the front doors while he watched off to the side, I felt so sick and nauseous that I had to sit on the floor for fear of vomiting. The FDNY frat boy informed me that I should get up and «act like a man.» I told him his comment was sexist and he searched the far reaches of his pea-​sized brain for a retort but had none. Although, he continued to harass me as I checked in, preoccupied only with getting me to sign a form that would make it impossible for me to get a bed, because he felt I didn’t need one. I of course refused and he left me, remarking «you’re a real piece of work.»
On good days, you’ll see a doctor fairly quickly and they’ll proceed to do as little as possible with the very limited knowledge they have on anything medical related. You’ll most likely leave with some very broad diagnosis or one that pretty much translates to «Duhhh… I’unno.» To sum it all up, you’d be better off staying home and going on Web MD. You’ll find better bedside manner there too.

Worst ER ever. Ew. Ew. Ew.
In the past I’ve gone out of my way to go to Lenox Hill and NY Presbyterian ERs, despite living two blocks from this hospital. About two weeks ago, I decided to come here since it was a fairly minor issue (draining an abscess) and it was late at night, and I wasn’t going to travel 30+ minutes each way to another ER.
The wait wasn’t all that bad, about an hour or so. However the waiting room was FILTHY, trash everywhere. I was sure I was going to leave sicker than I came in just from that.
They took me back to the «fast track» area which is really just tiny curtained cubicles. First, I get into the cubicle and see this horrifying site (see picture). Yes, that is blood all over that lamp, and no, that is not my blood. Had I not been in terrible pain and on painkillers, I would have said something about it, but I just wanted to be done. But uhh, copious amounts of other people’s bodily fluids in one part of the treatment area doesn’t convince me that anywhere else is particularly sanitary either.
The PA looked at the abscess, said he didn’t know if he could drain it, so he’d poke it with a needle and see. Ok, that’s fine. So he did, and then proceeded to squeeze it forcefully (and extremely painfully) without even asking if it hurt or if I needed pain meds, even though I was actually crying in pain at one point. If I hadn’t taken a half of a percocet at home before coming I would have passed out from the pain. I was so light headed from it I couldn’t even get up off the gurney for 5 – 10 minutes afterwards.
I’ve had this done before, where they injected with local anesthesia, incised, drained, and packed, ta da, all set, no pain, no antibiotics necessary. Of course since he used a needle he couldn’t pack it, meaning afterwards it immediately closed up and stopped draining. Given what I had seen of the hospital so far, when he came back and put gauze and tape on with his bare hands, I actually had to check that he had worn gloves when he did the procedure (thank god he had).
They gave me a prescription for antibiotics (which I’ve never required in the past when they did a proper job of it), and I immediately noticed that they had my birth year wrong on the prescription, despite the fact that the registration woman had my driver’s license in her hand while registering me.
The next day I called the hospital to correct the error in my birth year so I wouldn’t get a bill and have a huge hassle when my insurance claim wouldn’t process. After explaining the situation to someone on the phone, she transferred me. Someone else picked up the phone, but before addressing me, I heard him saying to someone else «Who doesn’t know their own birthday?!» Maybe the same kind of person that can’t read a date off a driver’s license correctly? I understand that people make mistakes but really?
So of course I got a bill, not for my copay, but for $ 319 that my insurance apparently «may reimburse me for». First of all, I checked online and my insurance already paid all the charges except the $ 100 copay (the one thing I wasn’t billed for?). Secondly, this $ 319 was for an incision and drainage procedure, which they DIDN’T EVEN DO.
The only reason they get one star is because it only took two hours from me walking out my apartment door to me walking back in my apartment door, and the fact that I didn’t walk away with any worse problems than I went in with.
Never again.

December 2013. Argh, Argh, Argh. Pain in the stomach, light headed and can’t move a muscle. What is this the flu? No it’s a stomach bug. It’s been two days now I been in bed and it’s not something I want to try for a third day because the symptoms are not getting better, well maybe just a little. Call the ambulance, dang FDNY ambulance are on the scene in 5 – 10 minutes, super fast. They take me to Mount Sinai hospital because it’s the closest to where I live.
The hospital does not have anything fancy or appear to be state of the art or well funded. I was worried they were going to leave me somewhere for a while being too busy with other patients, it was actually slow that day, not too many people in the E.R. I got a slot right away with a IV hooked up. Got attention from nurse right away, issue of why I was there was addressed right away. Good on intro but they leave me there for a few hours before anyone real comes by to see about me in pain from being sick. Besides that IV, it take a few hours before any medicine comes. I lay there some more.
Then I lay there some more and lay there some more.
Then you fall asleep and they leave you there overnight. Which I can’t tell by the bill but cost about $ 3,000 a night.
Then as they deem me not well to leave yet, they put me in a bed and roll me upstairs and I share a room upstairs with three other people. Not much to say, same medicine, same IV. Two days later I am much better, out of the three days I saw the doctor twice and the nurses kept waking me up at night.
Final bill $ 16,000 for a scan, medicine and 3 nights due to a stomach bug? Are you kidding me, luckily I have medical insurance. I kid you in no way, I can fax you the bill.
