I walked in thinking this place was Sage General Store, which the sign above it says. So, after 5:00 p.m. Sage General Store becomes a carriage called Mr. Nilsson, but at 11:00 p.m. it goes back to just being a pumpkin. This place has only existed for two months. I almost didnt want to write this review so that people don’t come here. I dont want to have to start making reservations. It is not busy, I have gotten seating at 6:00 p.m. Sunday and 7:00 p.m. Friday immediately. Both times the majority of the restaurant was empty. Bring a tissue because every time they bring you out an amuse-bouche tears will come because of how good it is. Bring an extra tissue if you decide to try the English Milk Punch cocktail, it is glorious(sweet though). the Driftwood is also a beautiful cocktail, and if you like Laiphroag(however you spell it) and even if you don’t I have never seen a better cocktail. I have tried everything on their current menu. Janesson’s Revenge is a huge plate of fingerling potatoes, very filling and sooo good. The chicharron is smaller in comparison and also yummy. Cruciferious was very good as well but not as good as the trout and the veal mid-sized courses. However, I would still give it a 9⁄10. The lamb belly is very belly-licious so dont get it unless you really like belly. I believe the other larger entrees are a pork and a fish. Both are really really good! make sure to use the sauce they give with every bite, because that is how it should be eaten. ONLYTHING: I HATEDTHEGOATCHEESEFUNNELCAKE. it is a mistake and should be removed. the quality of that dish is so below everything else it doesn’t make sense. It is not a good dessert nor a good appetizer. the parsnip dessert is fantastic though. We have ordered a la carte both times and have spent between $ 170 – 215(which included about 4 drinks per person). SERIOUSLYTHEBESTRESTAURANTINNYCAND I WOULDSAYTHEBESTCOCKTAILS I HAVEEVERHAD!

Located within the Sage General Store, this innovative Scandinavian style cuisine is a great addition to Queens. With its friendly attentive service and walk-ins welcomed laid back atmosphere, it was a nice spot for dinner. 5 courses was $ 55 with an optional a la carte menu you could also order from. There’s also a choice of a larger Chef’s Tasting for $ 84. It was $ 87 with a beverage pairing for the 5-course but my date and I decided to choose our own cocktails and beer to go with dinner. I got the English Milk and the Nordic Revival as my cocktails($ 12 each) for the evening. Loved the Nordic Revival with its Aquavit base and peppery finish. The English Milk was vibrant and tasty but a bit on the sweet side. My date got the Monk’s Café Flemish Sour beer. We started with an amuse bouche bite of crispy cod skin topped with roe. The texture, bold flavors, and saltiness worked well in whetting our appetites for the courses to come. The first course Cruciferous was a mélange of charred broccoli, marinated cauliflower, sauteed brussel sprouts with crunch texture, and miscellaneous herbs and greens to it. This was a strong start and what Nordic food as we know it is; having that foraged approach to food. Eating what is in season and a mix of «found» flavors. This was delicious. In between we were given a small single bite of crispy fingerling potato with an anchovy cream sauce to dip. This punch of flavor in between the courses was a great way to not cleanse your palate but just to provide a transition to the next course. The second course was Smoked Trout with charred leek, and unripen strawberries with a buttermilk lemon sauce topped with a large sprig of a foraged green. This was the best dish of the night. This was well composed with all the flavors tying together beautifully. The smoked trout was tender and paired well with the leek rounding out the flavors with the cream and the tartness of the bright Meyer lemon and strawberries, taking in with each bite some of the herbal sprig of green. After that course, we got a chicharonne topped with chicken liver mousse and leek ash. Another salty, crispy one bite that keeps your tongue interested. The main(third) course was the Golden Tilefish with shaved sunchoke, some more of that crispy fingerling potatoes that we already had before, this watercress? green sauce, and topped with claytonia greens. The fish was cooked very well but was a rather bland, firm and flaky whitefish. Wished it had a stronger presence as it is supposed to be the main. Then for the fourth course we had a goat cheese funnel cake with dabs of lingonberry jam and crisps of crumbled sage. This was kind of a fun course but wished there was more depth maybe if more of the sage was up front. The final dessert(fifth) course was a Parsnip purée with rhubarb, meringue, crumbled milk pieces, and cocoa soil around with sorrel. I was disappointed I didn’t get much of the sorrel flavor which may have tied everything together better. Again, a bit muddied in the flavors department. While the ingredients sounded wonderful and would work together, there wasn’t much of a harmony in execution. Still it was refreshing end to a tasty dinner. When we got the check, we got to try a chestnut liqueur that was rich and creamy. Very lovely finish. These young chefs are definitely talented and I would love to come by in a month or so when the menu has changed to see what the summer offerings are if they are still around. Love the strong start and hope to see better desserts the next time around. Definitely great spot for a date night and for an interesting dinner.

Thrilled to see a local Scandinavian spot open up that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. Went for the 4 course tasting menu and added on the goat cheese funnel cake. Everything was well cooked and seasoned, however, the portions were tiny. I’m not one to complain about portions as long as the food is good but it was noticeably small. Dropped one star because each plate was one bite each except the Golden Tilefish. Also worth mentioning, we got a bottle of the«orange wine» to drink with the tasting menu and it was an awesome pairing. Definitely a needed and wonderful addition to LIC. The chefs are talented and have a strong concept.

We had a very good 4 course meal at mrnillson. The food was beautifully presented and almost all of it was tasty. The only dish I did not love was the«funnel cake«dessert. It was one of the extras presented by the chef. I was expecting it to be sweet and it wasn’t. That is just alittle quibble. I opted for the duck and it was delicious. I did think it was a rather small piece… especially since there is a $ 10.00 surcharge on the $ 48 dinner. The staff is most accommodating about any food issues you might have. In fact, they are professional and pleasant about everything. I recommend trying it out. You’ll enjoy.

Attentive service and intriguing flavors are what you’ll find in this gem. It’s tucked away in Sage General Store so during the day you wouldn’t know that at night it turns into a tasting menu only dinner concept. You can choose from 4 or 7 courses, leaving you content and not hungry. Portion sizes are good and have good acidity and texture. You can see the intention behind each dish and what they try to do with the ingredients. Also — the prices won’t break your bank account! Though I’m sure that won’t last as they just opened. My faves were the black porridge, cod, duck and carrot dessert. The cod is perfectly flaky, duck has a crispy skin and tender meat and the carrot dessert has an amazing burnt honey ice cream paired with it. This is a must try and worth the trek to LIC :)

My hub and I strolled in on a Friday night and decided to give the new dinner menu a try. I gotta say, it was great. Not what we were expecting whatsoever. We both got the 8 course meal and shared a nice bottle of wine. It was a lovely experience and I’m sure we’ll be back. The service was great too. The waitresses came by a little too often but I’m sure it’s because it’s new and they want to make sure their customers are ok. I’m sure it’ll take a bit for the new dinner menu word to spread but this is something that LIC def needs. The chefs are amazing and very talented. Check this place out! We are fans.
