Mundo has a very special place in our hearts, we love everything they serve. The menu is vegetarian friendly and their vegetarian alternative to the normally meat stuffed ottoman dumplings is amazing(that is ottoman dumplings with spinach) The ambiance is very soothing with a wonderful music selection; Mundo definitely takes you to places with its food, music, drinks and hospitality!

Loved it here! Had such a cool and cozy Mediterranean charm, the bar was beautifully decorated. We were tended to right as we walked in and they were so quick with the service. My friend got the Ottoman Dumplings and I got the Pesto Gnocchi. The serving size was more than enough for both of us and we noticed everyone on Unilocal raving about their Red Sonja, so we used our Unilocal check in to try it! It’s SOOO good, I’ve never had anything like it. It tasted almost meaty but there’s no meat in it at all, which was a plus for me and my friend. They were so attentive to us throughout our meal and there was never a point that we had a hard time asking for anything we needed or when we wanted to make extra orders. We were lucky we made a reservation on a night they had an event so it was nice having a live band playing as the night went on. The food was amazing and the drinks were just as good, I’ll be coming back :)

I fully enjoyed the Mundo and I’m glad it’s in my neighborhood. Came in here on a Saturday around 8 we were seated right away our waitr was very nice and attentive. The food was so delicious and cooked to perfection. My favorite was the Red sonja. The ambiance of the restaurant itself is also very nice. This place definitely exceeded our expectations with the amazing live Latin music. The cocktails were scrumptious and creative. Finally, the prices are very, very reasonable — in fact, for what you experience, a real Amazing place, Just Go!

We love Mundo! The Red Sonja and ottoman dumplings never fail to impress. Their shakshuka(served at brunch) is also fantastic. I tried all of their signature cocktails and my favorite is the Sourbon: bourbon, fig, and rhubarb. Delicious!

I came here for an anniversary dinner on a Friday night, around 5:30pm(early dinner, I know… we ate earlier than our grandparents would’ve! but we were already in the area). Anyways, the food here was delicious!!! We had a sample of the Red Sonja via the Unilocal check in and that was amazing. Sprinkle lemon over it and eat it like a lettuce wrap. MMMMMM. I ordered the Beef Ottoman Dumplings and the boyfriend ordered the burger. Both were so good. Atmosphere was romantic and smelled great! I think it was the air freshener that the hotel uses. Great service too. Highly recommend.

Mundo is a fantastic place and I recommend that you try it out if only for the small plates/appetizers. The only reason that I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the service– from older reviews it seems that service has been a constant issue and I hope they do work on that. This weekend, I made a reservation for 6 people for my boyfriend’s birthday. I called in advance to let them know that I was bringing a cake and asked them to hold it in the back. The host told me that there is usually a $ 25 fee but he would wave it for me, and he bumped our reservation up 30 minutes! When we arrived, we loved the décor– we took photos on the scooter, of the industrial chess board, and with the mini cars and rickshaw in the lobby(it’s well decorated and spacious). The ambiance of the restaurant itself is also very nice– looks like a Mediterranean bazaar and it has good music at a decent noise level. We had the red sonja and the grilled halloumi in grape leaves for appetizers(amazing!) I highly recommend you get both, especially the sonja which seems to be a specialty. For food, my boyfriend and another friend got the special which was a lamb shank with potatoes and salad on the side. He said it was very good but not the best he’s ever had. I got the spinach ottoman dumplings which have a really interesting smokey flavor. Another friend got the mushroom ravioli which was divine! And the fries that come with the burger are also very delicious. I came with 5 guys so they naturally ordered many cocktails. The la’l drink is very feminine and nobody seemed to like it(comes in a fruity glass), the pachamama was pretty spicy, but the favorite seemed to be the zen . Now– the service. Our waiter seemed to be high(we saw him lighting it up outside when we were leaving) which explains why he came so infrequently to our table. Honestly, we probably would have ordered more drinks if he checked on us regularly. We had to wait forever to get our drinks, then to order our appetizers, when our food came– mine was wrong, and then the cake and check took forever. I was charged unnecessarily for the cake so I had it corrected. And when I told the host about the lack of service– he brought a round of shots for the table. Overall, the experience was definitely dulled by the service but the food and ambiance are lovely.

Check in for a free ‘Red Sonja’ To this day I still have no idea what a ‘red sonja’ is but it wasn’t bad. When I asked the waiter what it was I feel like I got the beat around the bushes response, still ate it though. The empanada appetizer was delicious, and quite possibly my favorite. My friends had the steak and I had the chicken. The verdict? My chicken was the most delicious entrée at the table. I tried some of their steak and it was a bit dry and lackluster in flavor. I do like how they have a basement to accommodate large crowds for birthday celebrations or any type of celebration. It gives it a more personal feel and keeps the noise to a reasonable level. The convenience of this location is that after dinner you and your group can head a block down to studio square(a beer garden).

There’s so much to love about this place. Everything I’ve tried so far was amazing and the skirt steak is probably the best I’ve ever had. They go very far in paying attention to every detail. On top of serving so many vegan and gluten free options on their menu, they even go as far as to only use alkaline water for everything… cooking, cleaning dishes, the«tap» water served at every table, etc. On top of the quality of the food, the service makes you want to keep coming back. Everyone there is extremely friendly, helpful and informative. It’s definitely a place I’m becoming a regular at.

I wasn’t sure what to expect when my friend told me that she was having her birthday dinner here. I had Unilocaled it and it was described as a bar/mediterranean/music venue so my boyfriend and I went prepared to have Mediterranean bar food, if there’s such a thing. This place definitely exceeded our expectations with the amazing live Latin music and delicious food and drinks! «Bar food» it was not. The ambience was charming with an eclectic vibe. We were the first table to be seated that night at 7pm but the place quickly filled up as the night went on. The restaurant had previously called my friend(the birthday girl who made the reservation) to request that we be on time as they were expecting a full house that night. We were given a cozy booth at the corner of the restaurant for our party of 6. Our waiter was extremely friendly and funny, cracking many jokes with us over the night. When he heard that it was our first time there, he went over the menu with us and recommended the popular dishes and cocktails. The red sonja, which is touted as their signature dish(they even give you a free order worth $ 10 if you check in on Unilocal!), was outstanding. I would describe it as the lentil version of falafel, but better. Each piece is served on a piece of lettuce and you’re supposed to eat it together. I’ve never had anything like it before so it’s definitely a must-try if you’re there! The main dishes were good too — the portions were very big and several of us could not finish our food as much as we tried. Mundo is definitely on my list of restaurants/bars to visit again. The lovely atmosphere, live music, interesting cocktails and excellent service make for an enjoyable night out, no question. Next time I go, I’m definitely getting me some more of that red sonja!

Mundo is excellent in all ways. The style and sensibility of the place is lovely — playful and mysterious. The service is perfect, from the manager who greets you to the informed and passionate wait staff. They love this food! The food and drink are unusual, modern, tasteful and tasty. TONS of amazing veggie/vegan options. The cocktails were scrumptious and creative, both challenging and a delight to the palate. The tres leches cake and chocolate mousse were balanced and delicious, with a wonderful look and perfect mouth feel. Finally, the prices are very, very reasonable — in fact, for what you experience, a real bargain. Go!

Went on a triple date to Mundo. Venue seems a little more upscale but you can definitely go dressed more casual. Service was great although it seemed as if our waiter was still learning English so we had a couple of miscommunication issues with our orders but the host helped us with making sure it was taken care of. Food was good, not very memorable but the venue makes up for it. We ordered: the red Sonja(which was pretty good especially since we were given a free order through Unilocal), short rib empanadas which were the highlights of the apps, shrimp and bread, and Turkish meatball. Best entrees out of the six of us: mundo burger, black ink linguini with seafood and the Ottoman dumplings — only thing with the dumplings is that they served too much sauce on top– a little less would have been better. Overall, glad I checked this place out, hotel is very pretty.

There once was a restaurant called Mundo New York Which was given a second life… Red sonjas and empanadas requiring no fork… A retreat from the chaos and strife. Nestled deep within the Paper Factory Hotel On the edge of Long Island City. At charisma and charm the owners excelled; They were handsome, charming, and witty. Full of music, martinis, and Mediterranean fare In a space so pristine and stunning. With merriment and laughter ringing through the air. A local favorite, it is rapidly becoming.

I’m updating my previous review from a year ago. Since that time, my wife and I chose Mundo for our wedding venue, and the big day has since come and gone(Oct. 3, 2015). Things were admittedly a bit of a rollercoaster ride starting out. Despite having done many events, including some weddings, it seemed as though we were their first«traditional» wedding. So, there was a bit of a learning curve for everyone, ourselves included, as we worked through all the moving parts and intricate details wedding planning typically entails. That said, once we were over those speed bumps, things turned out fantastic. I think the first thing that needs to be said is that they were deeply invested in putting on a great show. Maybe it was the fact that this was their first big wedding(100 people), or because of my winning smile and good looks. Either way, when things got especially rocky, they moved heaven and earth to get things back on track. There was no nickel and diming along the way; just a focus on making the best event possible. The food was fantastic — which was one of the key reasons we chose them in the first place. The event staff was ample and friendly. And the run-of-show went off without a hitch, which could have been tricky considering our wedding took place across three rooms. I think the one thing that was a bit of a shortcoming was the number of people staffed at the bar during cocktail hour. Everyone loved the drinks, but we did hear that the wait was a bit long. The initial issues probably had to do with too many cooks being in the kitchen(figuratively speaking); but once things got ironed out, the artistry shined through. They became partners in developing an unforgettable evening; not just managing the venue space. We had already become known to the staff as diners. But after the wedding, they became our family. The owners, executive chef, sous chef, and day-of planner have all become an extension of The Plazas. Ultimately I think that’s what set Mundo apart from the rest of the venues we looked at in LIC. Despite the early obstacles — which will disappear in time, as they do more weddings — we felt like kin, not clients. So, the planning process was a little more casual. A little more visionary. But when you work with artists, that’s what you should expect. Instead of spreadsheets and line-items, you work in brushstrokes towards a work of art. And that’s what they delivered. Bravo!

DRINKSONLYREVIEW! Not the best place to grab a drink, had the pisco punch and L’al just were not good. Pisco punch is usually foamy from an egg white froth but this was like a pre-made mix, the L’al had a preserved grapefruit taste. The bartender could not even make an old fashioned. The décor is nice and I haven’t tried the food if you’re just looking for somewhere to sit with a drink, venture elsewhere.

My friend chose this place for a party. Apparently they have nights where the place is packed and there’s tons of music and dancing. However, the night we came here, the place was relatively empty and the music was chill and kind of loungey. No matter though. With the size of our group, we brought the party! Once the DJ found out we were there for my friend’s celebration, he switched up the music to hip hop and salsa, which she loves. The space is really big and roomy and the décor is beautiful. Gorgeous hanging lamps at the bar. I had a Zen cocktail, which was delicious and refreshing and hit the spot. We had a great time hanging out and dancing and were able to properly celebrate my friend.

We’ve been here twice now since it opened. I think it has a fantastic vibe. It’s a little out of the way from the normal Astoria haunts, but it’s definitely worth the trip. The interior space is cozy and beautifully appointed. They have these wonderful jewel-toned gourd lights over the bar and plenty of seating for large or small groups. It’s both intimate and romantic, but also a great spot for a group catch up(make reservations though!). Their drinks menu might be my favorite thing about this place. Nothing is tired, nothing is the same old. They have a great mix of sweet, sour, spicy, and all the liquors(tequila, mezcal, whiskeys, vodka, etc.). All their cocktails are dangerously tasty. And their beer and wine offerings are nothing to shake a finger at either. Obviously, as everyone says, you need to try the red sonja. It’s difficult to explain, but it’s basically a red lentil mash formed into a croquette served with lemon and lettuce. That doesn’t do it justice. It’s surprisingly delicious for something so unpretentious. I think the best way to eat here is to share everything, but they do also offer entrée sized portions if you’re not into sharing. I think they usually recommend 2 – 3 little plates per person depending on your appetite. The standouts in my mind: Portabello salad, yucca fires, turkish meatballs, and the cheese rolls. And whatever the special is that day.

Came here back in January on a slow weeknight for dinner and drinks. The manager was such a pompous human being with his holier than though attitude and kept undermining any constructive criticism about the food. He went on to be very obtrusive throughout the meal repeatedly interrupting not to check on us, but to yet again tell us how his opinion is the only right one. The food was mediocre at best. Never again

Well, this place is pretty much where hipsters come to sip cocktails and talk about they’re latest trend. The cocktails are interesting, some good others odd. The food is my main gripe with this place. Came here for a light snack before the movies. My friend and I ordered the Turkish meatballs, and the empanadas. We both ordered a cocktail. Somehow we ended up paying $ 60 after tax and tip! I literally ate ONE meatball(not even large), and ONE small empanada(about 2⁄3 the size of the classic fast food empanada). The servings were TWO of each item. The food was good, but not spectacular. If you’ve got money to burn, and you’re not too hungry give this place a go, but I’ll pass next time.
