I have found a great bike shop. As a bike enthusiast I find most shops to have that scummy car mechanic feel to them. Shops I’ve dealt with will charge $ 100 tune-up on a $ 200 bike, ridiculous. I had a difficult fix on a custom Italian frame. A lot of shops couldn’t help or wanted to charge me too much. Damon found a solution and it came out to $ 74 bucks with parts and labor, way better than the $ 250 other shops wanted to charge. Damon is a down to earth guy and very knowledgeable. Do yourself the favor and check him out. The shop is in a nook in the industrial part of LIC. I will definitely come back.

This place is a gem in the New York bike world. I came here after a few not-so-inspiring experiences with other bike shops. Damon put together my custom randonneur bike this week and did such a splendid job of it. He’s a meticulous craftsman, an excellent troubleshooter, and has good taste to boot. I had the choice to go to a shop in Brooklyn or Manhattan, closer to where I live and work, but I went with Nomad and I’m glad that I did. Highly recommended!

Damon’s workshop is a hidden gem I’m so happy to have found it. An absolute godsend to the area of Long Island City. Quite knowledgeable. Great equipment. Friendly and accommodating and prices are affordable. Today he replaced the headset cups for my Vintage André Bertin Track Bike and installed a Campy BB. French vintage bikes are known for their odd measurements and threading etc, and yet Damon was handling it by the book. He knew the measurements by heart. Quite impressive indeed. Can’t wait to bring the bike again next week for wheel set and crankset assembly and overall tune up. In an industry where it’s easy to get duped by salesman bike shops/mechanics adding a cost here and there, it’s really refreshing to know honest shops still exist. I totally recommend them. 5 stars!

Stopped in here the other day with a flat when my rear tire was a-«tacked». Quick, friendly, knowledgeable, and just all around great people who are advocates for New York cycling. If you ride Skillman Ave you probably didn’t notice you’re going past one of the best kept secrets in LIC.

This is a funny shop on an out of the way street. I get great service here and highly recommend it. They also have an interesting selection of vintage bikes.

Found this hidden treasure and can not be happier. This is one of the friendliest shops I’ve ever been to. Not just had tier replaced but also had one on one training section. What can be better!

In all honesty, I never like going into bike shops in the city because I always feel like I’m being taken for a ride(yes, I know, really bad pun). My views of bike shops in NYC have completely changed after my first visit to Nomad Cycle. After recently being in a pretty bad bike accident, I had originally brought my bike to a well known bike shop in NYC to get a full tune up. Yes, this other bike shop did an acceptable(and expensive) job but when I rode the bike away, it still just didn’t ride right. Knowing that my bike still desperately needed some TLC to be safely ridden, my friend suggested I go to Nomad Cycle. I was completely blown away by the customer service. Not only did the mechanic, Robert, have über knowledge of bike repair but he basically gave me a tutorial on how he was fixing it(showing me the tool to use amongst other tips) in the event I needed to adjust the part myself in the future. It’s nice to think you can go into a bike shop that actually wants to educate cyclists rather than keeping them in the dark, with the hopes that you’ll remain clueless and be forced to bring it back to the shop in the future to get fixed. Not to mention, the cost for repairing the bike was so inexpensive my jaw dropped. Anyway, even though Nomad Cycle is a tad out of my way I will UNDOUBTEDLY be returning for all my bike maintenance. The ONLY think I regret is not getting Robert’s phone number… cause he was awfully cute!

I stopped by Nomad this morning to have them help me figure out why my back wheel was seizing up. It took all of 10 minutes for them to fix it and show me how to deal with it myself if it happened again. Being new the area, I took my other bike to Spokesman yesterday to have a tube replaced. The experiences couldn’t have been more opposite. Nomad appeared happy to work with me and very welcoming. Spokesman couldn’t be bothered. It’s worth the few extra blocks for a better experience.

I had an aluminum road bike and a french Motobecane fixed up at Nomad Cycle. Damon and I discussed all the work and the parts needed and he gave me great advice. He put together two really unique bikes, each fitting me and their specific purpose perfectly. Nomad Cycle has access to the whole range of standard inventory as well as more custom parts. So Damon was able to find some really neat solutions for what I wanted. He was super fast with both of the bikes and the bill came out below his estimate.
