Inexpensive sandwiches and beers. Ersatz interior thoughtfully preserved by owners. When I first walked in there, given the aesthetics, I got a clean smell. Not musty, not ammonia-y, just super clean, ordinary air. It is something I don’t expect from a comparable aesthetic which would be like Alpha Doughnut on Queens Boulevard. It’s just clean, and the DOH’s Health Grade of A is entirely credible the moment you walk in. I’ve eaten here a half dozen times and am motivated to write the review. The fish sandwich I took a photo of that day had fresh bread, crisp lettuce and the fish was a little on the thin side, forgiveable at the price($ 4.00). The cheeseburger another person had was hot and similarly served on a fluffy Kaiser. I can’t believe there’s hardly anyone in this place almost every time I go. It is totally awesome for what it is. it should be a study klatch destination for all those folks over at LaGuardia Community College who are tired of the same-old-same old across the street stuff, and for just a few blocks away, it’s relatively quiet. You can sit down and have a good conversation and food for not a lot of money. You can spread books out on the large tables and get a good group study in. Tourists at the LaQuinta and Red Robin hotels on Queens Blvd should also be beginning their days before emptying their wallets eating in Manhattan — grab something good and cheap here, then head into Manhattan would be the plan. It’s kind of an industrial street — about a half a block in from Queens Boulevard across from the art store — but totally, totally worth it.
