Rick and the guys at Silver Star have taken care of my Grand Cherokee since I moved to LIC 2 years ago. They are speedy, reliable and always fair when it comes to pricing. They just did some major suspension work for me, got me dealer parts, and the work was done in a FLASH! Nothing I’ve asked of them is a problem. They are pleasant and easy going, always willing to help me out in a pinch when I’m headed out of town in a hurry. Highly recommend this team of mechanics! Go see them, they’re great! I have a 2012 Toyota Highlander Hybrid. Mike, Rick and team have done a bunch of repairs on the car over the years, from oil changes to repairing cracked tail lights to installing a hitch. I’ve never had anything but excellent service from them. They usually get to work right away on the car and have it done quickly. The rates they charge for labor are extremely reasonable, and they are very skilled. Also, they can get factory parts from the dealers if there are cases where you really want the Toyota (or other) part, and they do it fast. Very ethical and honest, can’t recommend them highly enough.

These guys rock! I took my car in to get my starter replaced but the catch was it was stuck in a parking garage (because it wouldn’t start). They had two guys come to the car in the morning to try and get it started before we realized it just wasn’t going to happen. So they came back to the garage with me after their hours with their own car and a big jack to finish the job at around 8:30p. They’re great and friendly!

I was there to get my car inspected and the mechanic told me he would call me if anything extra needs to be done. (Pretty standard protocol)
Few hours later I go back to pick up my car and he wants to charge me more for an air filter change. The guy had a bad attitude and was rude when I told him he should have called to consult me about the filter change. The bad attitude continued when he proceeded to the trash to take out my old air filter (which was barely dirty) and stuck it back in my car! Never going back. It’s unfortunate bc I liked the first guy i dealt with when I dropped the car off. But the whole place gets a sub-​par one star rating because of the poor showing from one mechanic.

My car died and I had to get it towed back home. I had it towed right outside of the shop late on a Friday night. First thing Saturday, my boyfriend and I walked over to the shop to see if they could take a look at it. Not only did they immediately look at it, but they had it fixed by mid-​afternoon. Also, the parts they used were brand new instead of rebuilt or re-​manufactured and they charged me less than most shops would charge for used parts. When I came by to pick up my car they showed me the new parts that were installed and explained exactly what they did. Plus, the mechanic working on my car was so pleasant and friendly. He even offered us a parking spot on the street, since he had to move another car of his. Honest, good quality service and an unbeatable price! I will be going back there for any future car problems I encounter.

The owner, who replied to my review, is either confusing me with somebody else or is just lying.
My car is not leased. I have owned it for 6 years.
I took my car in for an inspection. I was not informed of the leaking struts or brake pads that were nearly worn down to the rotors. I discovered these issues the hard way — when after hearing scary noises while driving I took my vehicle to a dealership.
After my inspection. I was informed of nothing whatsoever. Simply given my sticker, charged, and sent on my way.
Later (at the dealership, not here) I was told my car should have failed the inspection and not been issued a sticker due to the issues that should been raised. So, even if I somehow stupidly ignored these issues (as the owner’s post suggests), the shop should never have issued a sticker. Issuing stickers for vehicles that fail inspection is ILLEGAL.
I will be contacting the BBB and NYDMV to follow up on my complaint with this place.

Terrible service and over priced. I went there to change a headlight. The guy who owns the place is ignorant! He lifted my car because he didn’t know how to access the headlight! I obtained the information and noticed that he is not aware of how to access it. I pointed out that it should be accessed from the front of the car. He got upset and said «I am helping you here» and started using racist comments about my background. Even used f words. I would never go there again for inspection or any other service. Stay away because the owner behave as if he knows everything but in fact he has no knowledge at all. Save your time and money and get car service from another source.

Worse mechanic i ever went to… the dudde doesnt know what he is talking about. Did an oil change for me without changing the oil filter and expected me to tip his coworker. When i asked him about the oil filter he told me not necessary to replace it. This guy shouldnt call himself a mechanic, instead should call himself scammer. DO NOT GO THERE AND SAVE YOURSELF AN ENGINE PROBLEM.

Honest (and very pleasant) guys, good quality service & reliable.
We’ve gone to these guys for all kinds of small-​medium repairs, and they’ve always been very quick with fair prices. We had them repair a large gash on the side of our car, and also replaced headlights, etc.
They’re around the corner so they’ve also helped us with things like jumping our car, etc. for no charge. Really a relief to have honest auto guys so close by!

I had a 2004 Volvo wagon that I decided to sell, but I needed to pass my emissions test first — not an easy task for this particular model with 125,000 hard miles on it. I spoke to the guys at Silver Star and they gave me a few tips: fill the tank with premium gas, turn on the cold engine and let it idle for a few, then drive it 50 miles (25 miles out on the LIE and back) going only between 50 and 55 mph.
Sure enough, the car passed the emissions test and I was able to sell my car.
On a personal note, I had my Christmas tree shipped to me from North Carolina this year, but had no saw to take a few inches off the bottom so it could drink. I swung by Silver Star, told them of my dilemma and asked if they might let me borrow a saw for a few minutes. «No problem,» they said. «Christmas trees are important!» When I returned later after sorting out my tree I tried to tip them, «No thank you. Helping with your tree is payment enough!»
Class act all the way. Highly recommended for both engine expertise and human decency.

I decided to give this place a try last week and I had a great experience!
I walked in at 7:30am and they were already open! They were attentive, diligent and very honest! I totally recommend them!

Solid and easy car inspection, no complaints at all.
Called up to make sure they were available, good service on the phone, was told no problem come on in. Got there 15 minutes later to find the guys hanging out outside ready to usher me in. I pulled in, parked, got out of the car, they did some things for 7 – 10 minutes and I was done, $ 40 dollars lighter.
Car inspections in New York are a scam set up by the government, so the best thing you can hope for is an honest, efficient place to take care of you and get you out. Silver Star was exactly that, which gives them 4 stars in my book.

Brought my ’08 Acura RDX in for an oil change. They had me in and out of the place in 10 minutes. Unbelievable. Great service and very nice guys.
Bring your car in here and save the spare time for something else for the day, like a walk by the waterfront one block away.

We live right around the corner from Silver Star and have only good things to say. We haven’t had too much work done because we only recently moved to the neighborhood, but they inspected our car last minute and have been incredibly kind and knowledgable. My car blew a tire while out of town and I called to ask their advice at Silver Star for a second opinion. They gave me great advice over the phone even though I wasn’t going to their garage for the repair. I’ll definitely be going to Silver Start the next time we need work!

Great group of guys. The mechanics were nice, professional, knowledgable, honest. Car inspection for New York State took no more that 15 minutes. Will definitely be returning in the future for oil changes, inspections, tune ups etc.

These mechanics are The Real Deal. My ’98 Mercedes is driving like new. And it was a pleasure dealing with Mike, Rick, and Ray. You will not find better anywhere.

Had an issue with the fog lamp on my old Subaru and Ray and Rick here hooked it up. Had me in and out of there in about 15 min. Solid dude and solid place.

These guys are awesome! They are honest, which is rare, in the auto repair field. They never over charge, and if it doesn’t need to be fixed they tell you it doesn’t need to be fixed. They take care of all my family’s cars. I 110% recommend them and hope they never leave the neighborhood.
