Wonderful selection of cross country skis. Always come here for running shoes as well!

I had my xc skis ground for the first time here. I got home and put a layer of wax on them and notice that a third of both skis had not been touched by the grinder(since I had a courser grind earlier). When calling back with my concerns all I really got was excuses for why they could not grind them more thoroughly. I also thought they would tune up the edges, but I guess that was just an assumption on my part. The grinding however seems like something that should have been relayed to me before I brought my skis home. I love the selection of clothes and equipment, customer service is hit or miss, but I think their ski shop needs a quality regrinding.

I have shopped here a number of times and will never shop again. It’s unfortunately since they have a great selection of product and it’s reasonably priced. Plus, they have awesome sales. Customer service is awful. It looks like I’m not the only one to say that on here. The past two times I’ve been in the store nobody even acknowledged me. Both times I was the only one in the store(both were on a weekday). I am not a high maintenance customer, but do expect some level of courtesy. I am all about supporting local stores, but I will be shopping at REI from now on.

The best place to get anything cross country ski related for several reasons: — Best selection of skis and apparel in MN — Staff know what they are talking about — Staff that are actually skiers and are willing to offer their personal advice on purchases — Sympathetic about broken equipment If you are looking to get any cross country skis or equipment, go to gear west!

Great selection, but horrible customer service! I ordered a bike for my daughter, and was promised it would be deliver Friday morning. I drive up Friday afternoon, and no bike! Was told that deliveries were running behind and it would be there around 3p or 5p. So the next morning I drive all the way back up to get the bike, and again no bike! This time they tell me all deliveries are paused for the holiday. I understand delays, but why could no one have called and just told me before I made the trek up to the store. The staff just needs an education in customer service, and taught to not be so arrogant. I absolutely love the store and gear, but the staff make it unbearable!

Love this place and the staff, we go here for our gait analysis with Wendy. She is wonderful, always has good suggestions and takes the time to willing to work with you. We will always drive to Gear West for our running shoe and a visit with Wendy.

The gear is fantastic, but the reason the staff works here is that they like biking. Interaction is limited to the bike ride they made that morning. For the rest, you are on your own. The customer deserves more at these prices.

I like to support this place because they are big supporters of race events in Minnesota. If I were a gal, I’d do 4 stars because the apparel selection for women is far better than for the guys. For guys, lots of basic black but sizes are sometimes picked over for the best items.

I always enjoy my shopping experiences at Gear West. They have a selection of apparel, bikes, gear, and other equipment. The location is also quite convenient. Now that the new highway 12 bypasses the area, it is more of a trek for me to get there, but I definitely make the time to stop into this stellar shop. The updated building is quite pleasing as well. The employees are very knowledgeable, friendly, and not too invasive. I highly recommend stopping here for any running, biking, or skiing gear!

You’d be hard pressed to find a better run, bike & ski shop. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and eager to help. As a privately owned store there’s a perception that Gear West is more expensive than the chain store competitive set. I’ve found that to be an undue stereotype — their prices are often on par or better than other options in the area and the chains can’t touch the level of service at Gear West. Also, I’ve been given discounts for buying multiple pairs of running shoes at a time. This store gets two very enthusiastic thumbs up from me.

Especially among the triathlon and cross country ski crowd, Gear West is the place. As a locally owned sports store(yes they still exist), it has employees that participate in their sports and know their sports. While I have purchased a number of items here, my most notable experience was with cross country skis where the experience of the staff(Jan, the owner, is often on the floor) was unrivaled. If you are willing to pay a bit more, you walk out with a confidence in the equipment you bought; for many of these sports that is well worth it!
