We went with a group of friends(8 total) and had reservations. We were seated promptly, but some of us did not have bread plates and although all of us got menus, a waitress came and asked to take three as they did not have enough for another table(?). The service was a little slow, but they were accommodating(separate checks for each couple) and generally friendly. I had a little difficulty talking to people as it was a little noisy, but not overly so. I might have rated this place a 2 except the food was excellent. We probably won’t go back, but only because there are so many other places that are better(IMHO).

Service was good, the Italian dishes are group got were ok, but the pizza was great and the Calamari was excellent. We chose the one with capers and tomatoes ended up ordering an additional one because the first one was gone very fast! We will be returning.

Food good but service suffers. Server did not pay attention to us. Had to go in to the bar to remind them that the wine was sitting there. Hard to get the bill. Can’t recommend.

This place is hidden back in one of Longboat Key’s few shopping centres. It is a tiny place that specialises in Italian. We ordered pizza, which was a fair size. Service was awfully slow and even though the waiter promised, we did not receive the happy hour pricing for our wine and beer. The pizza tasted excellent, but we were given no attention from our waiter. He did not check on how everything was tasting, nor did he offer refills on our water or drinks. If the service was better, I could recommend this place, but service needs improvement and it is also quite expensive.

Tried again this year and the food was better but not the service. The place was at about 70% capacity and with two waiters and no bus boy, it was like a scene out of Bar Reacue. The owner yelling at his waiters, everyone rushing around like crazy..

Left after 30 minutes and still didn’t have our drink order taken. The owner was at the bar and didn’t seat us. Then we waited 15 minutes to be seated in a mostly empty restaurant. After being seated we waited another 15 minutes as tables around us were served by another waiter.

The place is the Best. You gotta try it. You will go back often like us. We found this little Jem by accident. Its Much more then a Tavern! !! All the dishes are prepared as you like. They will do anything you ask. Thr people ate very friendly. Service is Great. The view of the Bayou is very nice. Watch the fish jump. Gary & Lisa

Good, but not great, Italian food. We had a pizza and calamari for appetizers, neither was that good. Calamari portion was very small, and not cooked well. Pizza was fair, with minimal topping, but very good crust. Eggplant parm and baked lasagna tasted very good, but both looked a bit like a puddle of sauce when it was served. cannelloni stuffed with veal was the best dish of the night. We did experience a bit of the attitude others have written about by the owner, who left us standing at the door without acknowledging our presence for longer that he should have. Why an Italian restaurant is named Bayou Tavern is a mystery.

We called at 4:45pm for a 6pm reservation for 20. Service was excellent and food was outstanding. Waiter James was one of the best we’ve ever been served by. Our group had pizza, lasagna, linguini luciana, basa. Sangria slso very good. Would definitely go back.

We’re here in town for our annual Longboat Key break from the brutal weather back home in Ohio. Thankfully, some things don’t change… the take-out pizza from Bayou Tavern continues to be excellent. Couldn’t recommend it more!

Went by boat — tied up to seawall in back. Great pizza. Earlybird by 5:45 rocks. Super nice wait staff and owner. Next time planning to call ahead and pick up pizza to take to longboat sunset.

Please, whatever you do open a can of soup before subjecting yourself to the insentivity and rude owner .i made 6 pm reservations for a certain table 2 weeks before coming. not only did we not have our special table it. We hadno table reservations AT all. they did seat us though. we husband ordered coconut fried shrimp which came raw. when my husband showed our server it was raw, they took it back and and recooked the same shrimp! I know this because they recooked the half shrimp that had been raw and put it right back on the plate! My friend ordered a caesar salad(iceberg lettuce) and it came with no entrée(veal guidea) came with no articokes, 4 slices of mushrooms and veal as tough as shoe leather. asked for ice cream for dessert and waited ½ hr. finally left with no dessert. never to return!!!

My wife and I stopped into this restaurant this evening. The atmosphere was delightful. The restaurant sat on a bayou and had a Louisiana atmosphere. We were met by the owner and directed to a nice table in the bar section. My wife ordered the early bird. I ordered a full meal. The chicken cacciatore was above average. Though not traditional on the bone chicken, but very flavorful. The one negative is that a simple garden salad did not come with the full entrée but did with the early bird. The $ 5 extra for a small garden salad made the value of our meal more expensive than comparable restaurants in the area.

Our party of three dined at the Bayou Tavern, an Italian restaurant on Longboat Key, Florida on Dec. 27, 2012. For appetizers, we had lobster bisque — delicious, and arugula salad with tomatoes and mozzarella –very good. For entrees, we chose veal Milanese, basa(fish) Francese and veal cannelloni, all of which were good. The décor is pleasant and low key. Service is cordial and competent. The restaurant feels comfortable and family friendly. Don’t be deterred by its location in an otherwise deserted small mall. Our meal — two appetizers, three entrees, one glass of wine — came to about $ 77 plus $ 5 tax, which we considered a fair price for this meal. A good local spot.
