The nucleus of the store is the soda fountain counter. It’s an iconic stop when your in loomis. I grew up in this little town and bellied up to the bar for a cherry coke, chocolate malt, pie and cake. Still to this day main drug has monthly birthday celebrations for the locals, it’s typically in the middle of the month. It’s a great way to get caught up on who is doing what, if everyone is ok or needs meals on wheels or whatever. My dad still goes there regularly for coffee to hang out with the old timers. The place is owned by a Japanese family and good olé Gordy is still filling prescriptions. One of the things that’s astonishing is some of the inventory is still there from when I was a kid, like ziggy paraphernalia. This a great place to buy greeting cards there’s a large selection and I love the Japanese dishes.

Since I was a little girl, my Grandma and(late) Grandpa have been driving me down the old road to the Main Drug to sit at their lunch counter for Grilled Cheese and Chocolate Malts. It is a real small town establishment run by a Japanese family who have warmed the community they serve. There are pictures of all the customers on the wall, even the old timers, and aisles filled with Japanese ceramic, old hair nets(still in packaging from the 1950’s I am sure), Wet N Wild lip stick, etc. It is a great place that always reminds me of visiting my Grandparents in the HOT summers! Definitely worth a stop if you never ate lunch in a drug store since they are tearing down most of these historic places.
