I decided to swing by the new tasting room in the Blue Goose fruit shed on Taylor on a recent rainy day. The tasting room is done up in a vintage/re-purposed barn wood décor that is spacious and comfortable. The wine was the real surprise. I started with a couple of whites(one a rose), both really unique and tasty. I’m not a white drinker generally, but I would buy these. The reds really blew my mind. They ran the taste spectrum –all were an adventure to try. I had hard time deciding between the Zin and the blend(Basin Red). I bought the later, but will be back for more, perhaps during one of their Friday music nights. Cyndie, the proprietor, was very knowledgeable and interesting to talk to. Glad this place is here helping to make Loomis a fun place to visit…

This was the 5th stop in our wine tour and it was more like a store in a strip mall. Their neighbor could also handle about 10 people at a time so when we rolled in with 16 they were overwhelmed. I’d probably skip this stop next time. Really cool building but tiny little spot.

In the old Loomis Produce barn. Shared shop space with another tasting room. Open for just the weekend. The lady watching the shop was not quick, intuitive, or very enthusiastic about the work. She greeted us but it was a good ten minutes before space or she was able to get us to the tasting. Wines were not remarkable. Tastings are free here, and wines are reasonable priced. The tasting room area can get busy but staff was not prepared to help. Good: location. Bad: mediocre wine and service. I might try again.

Friendly staff, great wine, free tasting — a great experience. Dress warm in the winter!

With many choices of wine brands at the big box grocery stores, it is nice to be able to step back in time and meet the proprietors of a local winery. Visiting Popie’s tasting room is not just about enjoying the wine but is also about the small town feel of Loomis and friendly welcoming service. Michael and Lisa Duarte provide a wide range of varietals from a Rose to their flagship estate Barbara. If you check them out I am sure you will be back. They throw a great year end party for their wine club members as well. Cheers!

I dont really have anything bad to say about this place. The wine was decent — not the best and definitely not the worst. I bought some bottles and look forward to enjoying them. The service was even better and clearly the winemaker loves his job. Stopped by for a tasting on Auburn and had a good time. Pretty packed and interesting set-up.

I came here with my girlfriend during our auburn wine trail tour. It was our 1st stop for the day and I was very surprised with the wines. They had some unique wines that we haven’t seen before so I ended up buying a bottle for her. It’s in downtown loomis and during our visit the town was also in the middle of a homecoming parade which made it difficult to park and find our way out. Overall though great little winery, when we come back to loomis this will be one of our stops.

Popie has quickly become one of our new favorite wineries. We regularly make the 10 minute drive from our house to stop in for some tasting, chat with the friendly people who work the tasting room and buy more bottles than we set out to buy because the wine is just that good. On our last visit, we absolutely loved each one of their wines. It’s very rare that we can say that about a winery but it is true at Popie. I am usually more of a red drinker and if I decide to drink a white I stay away from the sweet ones but at Popie I even enjoy their lighter whites. What my husband and i love about Popie is the uniqueness of their wines. The reds especially have such a unique flavor which we determined on this last visit is a hint of black cherry. On this last visit we ended up leaving with 2 whites, 2 reds and… a case of futures! The tasting room is located inside the large high hand building and is in a tasting room with two other wineries. While we have had some great wines from the other two wineries, Popie is definitely our Favorite.
