A great state park for all kinds of recreation! Moorage: Anchorage and mooring buoys(up to 45 feet) available on the north and south sides of the spit. Anchorage is free; buoys $ 12/night(in 2914 season). Neither anchorage is extremely protected so you can expect some slight rock throughout the night. Be sure to check the weather reports before choosing your moorage, as the quality of moorage on each side can vary depending on how high the wind is, and where it’s coming from. No dinghy dock, but the beach is just steep enough for a comfortable dinghy landing. Play in the water, and be sure to bring those sand toys! Just over the crest of the beach is a marshy wildlife preserve, great for viewing not only gulls and geese, but occasionally more exotic visitors including cranes and heron. At the«root» of the spit is the pay station, with a(non-motorized) water sports rental shack nearby for kayaks, paddle boards, and other adventures. Be sure to use the head before going to shore though, because the restroom is a short hike up the hill into the woods, at the campground parking lot. There are also bike and hiking trails to explore. In the evening, beach fires are permitted in firepits along the spit. Be sure to get your crab license, as there are plenty of Dungeness crab on the bottom on the north side!

Loved it there. I made a reservation way in advance for the 2nd weekend in July… I fell in love with the landscape at Spencer Spit, its beautiful and there are kayaks for renting right at the beach. My campsite was spacious and very private — couldn’t see anyone from there. The bathrooms were clean but no showers. There wasn’t wood available at the park so we had to drive into town to get some… Not a big deal as it only takes 10−15mins to downtown. We went to shark reef sanctuary(30 mins away) which is a short but rewarding hike — we got to see tons of sea lions and eagles. We had an awesome weekend overall.

Labor day weekend review-Absolutely beautiful park and beach but if your looking for some peace and quiet you might be shocked to find that you will be woken up at 6 am by the piercing screens of children. they were everywhere, no joke. Parents, what ever happened to be seen but not heard. Seriously. I am not one that likes to sleep in really late but for the love of god tell your children to be respectful of other campers!!! We came here for peace and to get away from the city and thought Lopez would be the perfect place it’s pretty sad when parents these days lack the proper parenting skills. I would recommend camping at Lopez farms or renting a cabin-it’s very peaceful there.

Don’t go here! Leave it for me! No, seriously… I don’t know why Moran State Park and Orcas Island get all the buzz and no one has ever heard of this place. I was able to book a campsite in June for a prime weekend in July, which is crazy for such a great place that’s close to Seattle. There’s plenty of kayaking and biking to be done here, and you can rent both right at the park if you need to. Outdoor Adventure Center also runs guided kayak tours from Spencer Spit. We saw starfish, crabs, and seals while kayaking. The campsites are great. Grassy, shaded, large, and pretty spread out. I stayed at #22, and I’d definitely recommend those outer loop sites even though they’re a few bucks more expensive because they’re big and have a ton of privacy. The campground was full and we barely saw or heard anyone while we were at our site. There are also a few group sites that can hold 20 or so people. There are only two downsides I’d point out. There are real toilets, but I didn’t see any showers. And since it’s an island and garbage is expensive, it’s a «pack it in, pack it out» operation. Which basically means you’re bringing all your garbage back to the mainland with you. I think it’s worth it for a short stay, but this might deter me from taking a longer trip there.
