Michael Chen and Jon Jay

I revisited Michael Chen as I had another public performance coming up. I had a great experience here a few months ago, so my expectation was truly high.
Michael impressed me again with his creative styling idea and attention to detail — he knows which hairstyle is the best for you! I also want to mention that Michael is a courteous, genuine and effective communicator, who makes me comfortable sharing my needs and concerns. He is one of the rare hair stylists who excels both in hair care expertise and customer service. He is also extremely flexible and willing to do anything possible to give you the best look.
When I watched the video of my performance, I noticed that the side and back view of my haircut was impeccable — this is very hard to achieve in front of camera, and Michael did it! :)I believe he is a credible hair stylist for both daily cuts and special occasions, for young adults and elder people alike.

Jon & Michael are my secret weapon! They have become friends and hairstylists. I have a typical crazy Silicon Valley life as an executive at a high tech company and as a single mom.
They guys keep my cut & color fresh & camera ready for pr and speaking gigs– no easy task!

Sold! My Asian hair was needing a root touch up plus I wanted to get my hair colored and cut. Michael and Jon were amazing! I did two appointments: one was for root touch up and cut, then I came back for a second appointment for my hair color and I love it! (since I wanted so many things done, there was no way to do it in one sitting.) These guys are genius! They had already knew what I wanted from my first appointment and Jon and Michael had already had suggestions on what to do (I brought photos on the iPad to show them).
Michael did slightly bolder, brighter streaks on my crown, added peekaboos near my temples, and ombré in the back under my hair. Michael cut the back of my hair so the ombré color, peek out underneath as well… Very cool! It turns out that when I wear my hair in different ways you can see different streaks in different places so it is a different look every time! I went with yellow streaks (since my hair is black originally). I noticed that the chemical they used for dyeing was not as horrible smelling as some places I’ve been too. Jon reassured me that this was a lot more gentle than other brands. I trust both of them with this given their expertise.
On my first visit, Michael even took my glasses and wrapped the temples of the glasses into plastic so that the dye wouldn’t touch it! (Got LASIK just before the 2^nd visit so they didn’t need to this). I got a towel when Jon shampooed my hair that I could use to wipe away excess water (this is a fine detail but I appreciate this as many places don’t do this). This is also the kind of place where I don’t have to worry about whether or not I have hair stuck to my neckline or poking me later because they get you to change into a smock/​robe/​cape, whatever you call them. :) I have been looking for hair stylists that are down to earth, have experience, use top notch products, are in a salon that says you’ll get pampered, and can communicate well… Look no further! Michael and Jon are it.
The fact that they are a team is really unique and something that other professionals should emulate. They really help each other out and care about their clients. Appointments made via texting on the phone was very convenient! Parking can be a slight issue if it’s at certain times of the day. Do yourself a favor, go book an appointment with them! They’re true artists!

Jekell & Hyde at work here. Made an appointment based on great Unilocal reviews and was really looking forward to this. Was told to stop by ‘anytime between 1 and 6:30′ for a quick consult; replied I would stop by on Thursday.
Thursday morning received telephone call from an incredibly rude person who admonished me for not returning earlier calls about consult appointment — no voicemails on any of my phones (nor does salon number appear in my phones’ logs) nor any emails about this. I tried to explain this and was cut off and given a choice of two appointments for Thursday, neither of which I could make. When I proposed another day/​time, I was told that the salon was incredibly busy so it was one of those two times or else.
I chose else. Hope you have better experience than I.

I was glad to come here to get a hair cut at John Jay and Michael Chen! They had great service and knowledge about hair. Plus, the entire hair cut only took me less than 40 mins, which was very efficient. And of course, I love my new hair style. It’s stylish.
Definitely would come back again!

Jon and Michael are first of all the sweetest people you’ll ever know and secondly a great hairstyling team. Jon has given me everything from vivid but subtle purple highlights to gorgeous burgundy shades on my black hair (not an easy thing to do!) and they took very special care of me all through my pregnancy, making sure I was comfortable and didn’t unnecessarily stay inside to inhale any toxic chemical fumes. Michael’s hair cuts last way beyond the normal 6 weeks. He knows how to style your hair just right. If you go to Jon and Michael, this will be your last hairstyling team. Ever. I guarantee it. You won’t need to look elsewhere.
