This is a great brunch place. They have pancakes, omelettes, scrambles, sandwiches, etc. I am not generally a fan of waffles, but I have tried bites when others have ordered one and they are delicious here! I order the eggs benedict variations, They are always good. The coffee is okay. Honestly, it isn’t the best coffee, but I can drink it just fine. Just like everything in Los Altos, the prices are outrageously high. Wait times can be longish on weekends, especially Sundays, but it isn’t worse than anywhere else for brunch. I like Rick’s. I’ll buy a $ 12 stack of pancakes again at some point.

The food and service was good! A nice little diner. I had the«Oriental» Chicken Salad, tasty chicken, fresh greens the dressing could have used a tad more ginger…

Love the food, love the atmosphere, love the service, and many more. Brought my family & friends here many times last year and over the period they established business in Los Altos but rarely got the time to check in or review. While waiting to be seated, I am reviewing and giving 5 stars before we eat. I will be back after we dined and review more. Happy New Year to all!

Great little place to hang out. The food was a little on the healthy side and the coffee was fresh. The flavor of the food was a little lacking and the sausage a bust. Nice try though.

Went to Ricks Café for brunch this past Sunday. It was around 1pm and the two of us were seated right away. The café itself was nice and toasty, but we were seated in a back greenhouse-like patio that must be great in the spring but honestly was a little drafty for January. We ordered coffee, a veggie omelet, and a fruit crêpe. The coffee was nigh undrinkable. Dark, burnt, and requiring about half cream to drink(and this coming from someone who loves dark coffee). The veggie omelet was well executed, lot of produce, the way a veggie omelet should be. The fruit crepes were basically just two cool pancakes wrapped around their standard fruit salad, effectively open bottom fruit burritos. They kept falling open so my partner eventually just dumped the melon out of the crepes and ate the two parts separately. I think they used all their brunch karma to make my omelet since everything else there was a disappointment. We’re desperate for local brunch places, so this will stay in the brunch rotation, but definitely stopping for coffee elsewhere beforehand.

Great food and service. The owners/managers work extremely hard and they truly make an effort to mingle with customers. The food also came out very quickly. I had the vegetable skillet and strawberry Nutella crêpe which were both delicious. Their menu has a large variety so it was hard to decide what to order!

I was absolutely horrified by my experience on Saturday morning. I came into Rick’s with my family, as we have many times before– a group of 6 of us. We were promptly seated. We all ordered, no problem. I have a severe life threatening food allergy to all nuts including coconut, which is in a few of their pancakes and waffles. In the past, they have always wiped down wherever they cook my food. However, this time, the waitress returned to my table to inform me that«the kitchen didn’t have time to make my food.» I was shocked– it would take a maximum of five minutes to clean off the corner of a griddle or a waffle iron– they could have even just used a standard frying pan! Straight up discrimination. I’m glad they told me they couldn’t clean it. Ownership changed lately, and I’m not sure if it has anything to do with it. But, I absolutely refuse to return to a restaurant that«doesn’t have time» to take basic steps to prevent a life threatening allergic reaction. I «don’t have time» to deal with that kind of attitude. Instead, I went down the street to Spot, and got a delicious sub sandwich within 5 minutes that was made completely allergy friendly.

Chocolate waffle — chocolate chips in batter with plenty of whipped cream — dbp fave Regular waffle — mnp fave, ate ¼ — excellent texture Hawaiian pancake — had that perfect crisp — can order one pancake which is enough for 1 adult Side: eggs, bacon, yogurt — yogurt needs granola, tasted like fake sugar — plenty of bacon

We came here with a gang of hungry teens fresh out of 3 rounds of laser tag. First, they had a booth that could seat all 7 of us together. That was a bonus. The menu was extensive, and lots of yummy sounding options. All the boys ordered the bacon cheeseburger. My daughter ordered the crab crêpe, my friend ordered a crêpe plate, a friend ordered the blueberry pancakes and I ordered the mountaineer skillet with over easy eggs. The burgers were huge with 2 large strips of bacon and hash brown like potatoes. My skillet dish had delicious cubes of corned beef and the eggs were perfect. The crêpe dishes were yummy and came with the potatoes and toast or bagel. The blueberry pancake was huge. The only item the kids didn’t like was a salsa like veggie chop.

This restaurant is one of my favorite breakfast places to go to. Downtown Los Altos is a very peaceful village like area and always has plenty of parking. Ricks usually has a wait but it’s never too long. I went between 11:30 and 12:30 and was able to get seated right away. The servers are always friendly and the food always taste great. Probably my favorite part of their menu is the pancakes. They are a bit pricey but they use wheat germ which makes the pancakes feel healthier haha. The crêpe, omelettes, and scrambles all use similar ingredients but they all taste very good. The portions are just right and if you do order the pancakes, be prepared to take some home!

Wow. I just found this place. I haven’t been to Los altos for many years and I just set out to find a nice place to have breakfast. Low and behold I found Rick’s café. I was with Rick when we sat down for a great breakfast. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. Love Santa

I came yesterday morning with my co workers for breakfast and we did have an awesome time. The menu is great, the prices are great, service can step it up, and food was delicious. The portions are pretty big and is good enough for a single person to get full off of. I love how they serve bagels rather than toast and I also like how they butter them up. The thing that irritated me was the mimosas. I clearly asked one of the owners if the mimosas were unlimited and I even explained if that meant getting free refills and she said yes. Now when our bill came to pay up, I noticed they charged me for two glasses rather than one so I talked it out. I didn’t want to go any further because obviously there was a language barrier mixup. It’s whatever, I just wished this could’ve been better explained and set on the menu rather than for customers to ask. Bottom line the food is good and the portions are on point. Service can do a better job but otherwise my experience was about a B–

My first time at Rick’s and I was extremely satisfied with everything. I came here on a Sunday for brunch and parking was pretty easy to find. I never go to Los Altos and this popular brunch spot is located in downtown and there are lots of cool boutiques and other food spots nearby. I’m usually not a brunch person, but I’m always down for brunch crepes! I ordered the Lupine Crêpe which was bacon, cheese, avocado, mushroom, ham, chicken sausage, sour cream and chives. The crêpe itself was so soft which I liked! I haven’t had a crêpe with a perfect texture in a while since I prefer crepes with a softer skin than a crunchy skin. The order came with a bagel and potatoes. The potatoes were perfectly cooked an not hard at all. Staff was very accommodating. I came a little late after my party ordered their food, but our food all came together and it wasn’t even a lot wait! There was a lot of seating inside too. Prices are very decent and portions were fair. They also have cool tin cups for their water that is for both cold and hot water so you won’t burn yourself if you are drinking hot water.

We have been coming here for over 5yrs to have breakfast/brunch and yes there are times that service is off but overall the food is good and consistent which is one of the important things. Still love their hash browns, homemade corned beef, their skillets, pancakes and now a fan of their waffles. So I am giving them an overall rating of 4 stars.

Rick’s café is a decent brunch spot in beautiful downtown Los Altos. We sat outside since we had three dogs with us. I ordered the breakfast burrito which came with chorizo, eggs, salsa, avocado and sour cream. It was served with house potatoes which were essentially just hash browns. Burrito was decent and the portion size was generous but definitely nothing to rave about, there are definitely better brunch options in the south bay. Potatoes were a bit on the undercooked side and there was no crispness to them. Service wasn’t particularly good or bad, only complaint would be it was a little difficult to track waiters down when we needed them since we were one of the few tables outside but nothing terrible.

Rick’s Café is an all-American diner with an old school flair. I’ve visited during the week and also for Saturday brunch. Both times I’ve been served within 5 minutes of ordering. I’ve tried the Chicken Gouda omelette and the Crabmeat Hollandaise omelette. Both were spectacular, though I preferred the crab a touch more. Omelettes are served with potatoes and bagels, but you can easily substitute for healthier fare such as sliced tomatos, salad, or fruit, at no extra charge. My favorite place to sit is at the counter, watching the hustle and bustle of the kitchen while getting prompt and friendly service and endless organic coffee refills! Treat yourself on the cheap this weekend; go to Rick’s for brunch!

Had a chicken scramble. I thought the portions were pretty legitimate. The texture to the shaved potatoes were a nice change from chunky, usually bland potato chunks elsewhere. I also enjoyed the option for a bagel. Solid meal overall and would come back for the food. Although I know they are known for their coffee my friends and I all agreed it was a bit overpriced.

A good environment with decently quick service and great food. I ordered a crêpe which was quite enjoyable, though very simple. The home fries that came with the meal and the bagel were nice complements to the sweet crêpe. The home fries were excellent, and is a signature of Rick’s café, where they slice up the potatoes very thin and bake it from there. It was a nice twist to the classic home fries.

Came here after a hike at Rancho San Antonio and it did not disappoint! We waited for about 15 minutes which wasn’t bad considering it was pretty crowded and popular place. I had one of their House Special, the Crab Louie«Cayenne» — basically Egg Benedict’s, Dungeness crab meat and spinach on an English muffin topped with their cayenne hollandaise sauce. Nom nom noms! Oh I really enjoyed the potatoes that came with it. It was probably one of the better potatoes I’ve had whenever I have Egg Benedict’s sort of brunch. Definitely my favorite go-to spot in Downtown Los Altos after a hike :)
