An emporium of high end home and office décor. If your looking for a great gift, or need to spruce up a room this should be your first stop.

The best git/home shop on the eastside. The owners are for real cool. There is no tacky –cutesy crap all the other wannabe gifty shops carry. I love the shelving in there. They find the best merchandise from allover the world. You wont find the same –commercial crap you expect in a home/gift store or baby overload products everwhere. I wish Netty’s was still open by them. But you can grab a decent bite at the Back Door café after your shopping joy at A + R.

Tiny store with great stuff. Most modern stuff from different designers. Parking sucks

Tiny place, but man does Andy know what’s up and hip. He even knew the Scandanvian design place in Hayes Valley that I was talking about, and Hayes Valley is in San Francisco! Wonderfully helpful, and I think A+R is the sole purveyor of Studio 1am jewelry. Stay classy and designery, Silverlake!

i recall the moment i stepped into this store for the first time. my first thought was, «oh my god. it’s like the internet come to life in one store!» i for one scour the net for unique design type gifts for people. you know the grossly overpriced handmade glasses with asymmetrical shape. or the potted plant that grows with words on it. stuff you never really find at normal stores but always find in the nooks and crannies of the design avenue of the net. well this store seems to have a lot of it. all in one tidy little shop for easy access. granted most of the time you don’t really buy anything, but it’s always fun to look. and keep in your back pocket for fun gifts in the future.

An urban gallery. What i mean by that, is that this place is potentially one of those shops that you walk into, admire all the cool funky objects but probably wont purchase any of them. I mean, I wonder how many people come in and appreciate the hand-lathed glass dixie cups, or the porcelain Stalin heads enough to actually buy them. With that said, there is alot of cool shit in this place. Stuff that, if you’re like me, you’ve seen on plenty of design blogs but haven’t ever seen in person. Me, I picked up a signed edition of Barbera Bestors new book BoMo about the Bohemian Silver Lake community. Essential for anyone living on the east side. The owner is very friendly… and please ask him about any of the objects in the store and he may tell you a story that might actually make that price-tag a little more acceptable.

A+R Store located adjacent to The Back Door Café & Bakery is a welcome addition to Silverlake, and LA’s new destination for intelligently designed creative gifts, books, house wares and more. Andy and Rose at A+R have done a spectacular job at spotting unique objects from today’s most interesting designers from all over the world(Brooklyn and Scandinavia seem to be especially well represented) and featured them beautifully in this small boutique shop. If you appreciate great design, then don’t just stop by when you’re in the neighborhood, make a trip of it and check out A+R Store today!
