Great learning environment. The instructor is fully devoted to developing the skills of his students, many times staying after class for those willing to put the extra mat time. Students are likewise enthusiastic about the sport and eager to help out.

Open mat Sunday. Art is always just a great all around guy. He has a wrestling background and always comes back to his alma martyr to roll with wrestlers and share his gift. He’s bjj competitor always pushing the bar. He was one of my sons early instructors in his bjj career and always enjoy seeing him roll with my boy. He’s located across from Roosevelt High School football field. Just like him to bring his gifts to Boyle Heights. Check out his gym.

I’ve been training at Academy of Martial Science since October 2014. Great friendly environment, extremely clean facilities, and one hell of a workout. Coach Art is a phenomenal instructor that pushes you to your full potential, and then some. With a heavy focus on BJJ, wrestling, conditioning, and stand-up fighting, I can honestly say that Academy of Martial Science has everything one needs to improve themselves not only physically, but mentally. I highly recommend this gym to anyone looking to explore the intricacies of martial arts, and to anyone looking to get in better shape. This place has it all.

Exactly what this community NEEDS! This facility is the Premier Brazilian Jiu Jitsu spot in Boyle Heights, the heart of Los Angeles. This is the place to learn the art of Jiu Jitsu as well as other martial arts. What sets this place apart from other places is the passion. Sensei Arto Mercado has a background in Wrestling, Judo, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He is passionate to teach and educate everyone about the martial arts. Great instructor for adults, women and children. I recommend this place to everyone who is looking into learning self defense, learning a martial art, or relieving stress. I recommend you go see for yourself and drop by!
