We bought a nice twin kids bed here. Solid wood, platform style with drawers facing out. Everything was constructed and stained perfectly. Very good craftmanship. You do get what you pay for so it’s a bit pricey than just going to Ikea. But great place and the owner is helpful.

David was great. I had passed by one day and didn’t have time to stop, and after doing some research and pricing I headed back. I got a great deal on two unfinished chairs and table that are perfect on my porch. I believe in giving my business to small businesses and David gave me great deal and was warm and funny — good peeps. Definitely going back and will recommend this place!

This place is a joke. I went in to buy a chair and he kept quoting me a different price each time higher on used junk. The dresser I purchased fell apart after a month. His employees acted like they didn’t care. When I asked if they would fix it, they just laughed. I would not ever do business with them again.

Summer is coming… I ordered 4 garden chairs and 2 small end table to put on my beach house front porch. To make them look even nicer, I paid a bit extra to have all nail holes filled and then had everything painted a crisp white. Gorgeous! They are such a classic design which is perfect for any house while at the same time they are so sturdy that I know they will last for years! On top of all that, they are comfortable! Of course, every now and then, I will need to repaint them to keep them fresh but I know I’ll enjoy them for many years to come. Thank you David and your great crew at American Woodworks!

American Woodworks built me a fantastic custom-made table that was exactly what I’d envisioned, and at a reasonable price. This is a great place to come if you have a fairly specific idea for a piece of furniture, and can’t quite find what you are looking for pre-made, but don’t quite have the carpenter chops to execute the idea yourself. The owner Dave is a character and a lot of fun to talk to. I’m glad this place is in the neighborhood.

I came here a month ago with a broken poster bed. At first the owner was no worries we will get it done, just as long as you know that we can not make it look the same as before. I was like no worries, anything is better than broken. At first I had taken a picture on my phone a year ago and he quoted me $ 60.00. I was like that was a little steep for an hours worth of work. I waited a full year and went back and was quoted $ 30.00. I was like sold!!! Not knowing that I was there a year befor. He said to leave it for a few day and by wednesday it would be done. Okay, here comes Wednesday and rushing to get to the place before closing and was told that they have not even touched the bed. I was so so upset, I just told the lady that I was not happy and to please get this done. Mind you he said that it needed at minimum a day for the glue to cure. So, she called me back the next day and told me that they made a mistake and to give them till Friday. I was like kool, why not, I’m not paying full price and we Will get my furniture back in one piece. As for the work, they did an amazing job. As for the miss communication I’ll give them 3 stars. I would have given them 4 if it was not for the miss communication. I would take my furniture anytime.

We recently bought a really cool double adirondack chair(pic uploaded) from American Woodwork. 150 for a custom piece like that was a steal. And because we lived so close, he delivered it for free. I agree with the other reviewer — the fact that many of the items are not stained or painted, it feels like they’re unfinished. And, yes, overall the style is very traditional. I’d love to see them sell a selection of more modern designs, with harder edges. All of the outdoor furniture they had available suited my style and I was tempted by the benches they offered as well. Check it out if you are looking for an alternative to ikea or the cheap prefab places around the corner. It’s fairly priced for the craftsmanship and quality wood, it’d just like to see an update in style. They also do home and kitchen renovations…

It’s embarrassing at my age to have so much furniture from thrift shops, but they have such history and patina that I wouldn’t trade them for anything brand new from Plummers. I’ve had a writing desk that I’ve dragged around from college with a broken leg that’s always been in a clamp. It cost me $ 55(minimum shop charge) at American Woodwork to repair the leg alone — refinishing the scratched top would have cost about $ 150 more, and even then, they couldn’t guarantee a match with the existing stain. I know quality craftmanship costs, and I know I should support local businesses, but they weren’t flexible enough to offer a cheaper alternative. My ex was trying to match a bed rail, and he was quoted $ 120 or so. Luckily, he found a similar-enough piece at Penny Lane on San Fernando for about $ 30. In addition to repairs and custom-built pieces, American Woodwork offers readymade solid wood pieces, but the style is far too traditional and chunky for my taste. Still, it’s worth a look.
