Such a hidden gem! It really is the perfect bar to hang out with friends. There’s no Hollywood partiers in sight and it’s not a place you pick up chicks or get picked up in, it’s just a place for a local chill hangout with great music and super nice staff. My only critique is that it feels a bit like a dive bar without the dive bar prices. This isn’t always a bad thing, but I just felt they were a bit overpriced. A glass of wine was $ 12, which I could pay the same price at a nice wine bar. The good thing is if you go on a night with live music then at least you can consider the drink prices part of the show. Overall the food looked good and the music was amazing!!! Sarah Burton was playing and am so impressed! Such a talent!

Sometimes you just want a simple bar that’s not too busy and not too quiet… but just right to have a casual conversation, drink good beers, eat good bar food and have friendly banter with the bartenders. I’m happy for this addition to the neighborhood.

Just ordered delivery from this place, and they forgot to bring my fries after the guy on the phone told me they were good and came with my burger. Ended up paying 20 $ for just a burger. I also ordered medium and got a rare burger. I sometimes order medium rare at nice restaurants, but this burger was rare. Had to microwave it! It was pretty tasty, however, and would love to give it another try, but just had to share this experience after waiting so long to get my dinner!

I have been here b4 and after the change in management, so i have experienced some of the changes and for the most part have had good experiences but the last time I visited well… We showed up in a group of 4, we could tell that the waitress was new. She forgot one of the shots ordered and brought our drinks one at a time. So 2 of our party individually paid for their own drinks and left. While another 3 join us 30mins later(who ordered at the bar). I also noticed that a fews more booths fill up. While our drinks and fries came to the table slow, we were still having a good time. ITWASN’T UNTIL the guy with the pompadour(60’s) hair style stepped in to assist the only waitress/bartender. That’s when things went bad. He had the nastiest attitude and was short with us. When it came to the bill he just dropped it on the table and kicked everyone else on our table out. Needless to say we were being billed for 2 beers that had already been paid. But when brought up to his attention he simply said«he didn’t want to deal with it bc he had only had 4hrs of sleep and he came in on his day off»(who the hell says that to a customer?) Even if it was true, it is not an excuse to be rude and ignore the problem. He refused to do anything about it. Finally he growled, snapped the check off the table. Came back and only one had been taken off the bill, again it was pointed out. This time he yell at the waitress for cash and threw it on the table and said«there i don’t have time for this». Seriously? Wtf kind of customer service is that! If it wasn’t for that guy our experience would have been great! I’ve worked customer service b4 and know what’s it’s like, but he was just ridiculous. Hopefully you get a different experience here. Preferably a good one.

Not a bad spot. Stopped by on Sunday morning to watch the Steelers game. The place was completely empty. Service was a little spotty at first as the bartender was chit chatting with someone who seems to also work there, but must have been her day off cuz she was in sweats and a sweater and not working, but knew her way around the place. A couple of times I had to walk to the bar to ask for a refill on my coffee, looked on my own for something to stir my coffee with, salt and pepper, etc… then people started showing up and they were also Steelers fans which were cool and now with more people in the bar, the bartender clearly needed to work… After that service was better. I got the bottomless mimosa for $ 13, deal! Nice big glass(less you have to bother anyone for a refill!). They serve breakfast so I got the 2 eggs breakfast which is 2 eggs, bacon, sausage, hashbrowns and toast(only wheat and white… no sourdough??) I was SO grossed out because the white of my over easy eggs were completely runny, but I was not about to send it back… Everyone who works there seems super young and who knows what will happen to my food if I send it back… I was starving so I still ate my food just wiped up my undercooked eggs. I really wanted to give this place more stars because it worked for what we needed that day and the bottomless mimosa was a huge plus! But so much was wrong. The bartender was SUPER nice and it’s a great place to go watch the game, but there’s a few things they clearly need to get together. I’m not saying that I would not recommend this place, I just want to share my experience here.

The Black Rose Tavern was never my first choice. Some friends and I met here because it was the midpoint between our workplaces. Our first trip was fine. Unimpressive, but fine. My second trip, however, has made me reconsider ever returning here again. Convenience or not. My friends and I came on a Thursday night. It was wasn’t very busy, but there were several tables filled with groups. We had about 7 in our party, arriving at different times. A friend arrived at the same time I did and we put in our drink order. 20 minutes later, we still don’t have our drinks. I flag down the waitress who apologizes, says she’ll get right away and then disappears. Literally, because she didn’t come back for another 20 minutes. And still no beer. Long story short: We had to ask an additional THREE times for our drinks, one of which was to the manager who still did not result in immediate delivery. Additionally, the waitress came back TWICE to ask«What did you two order again?» This is now over an hour for a beer. And it was not even comped for making us wait so long. Completely AWFUL service. For the final piece of while I’ll never come here again: Apparently, this bar hosts a comedy night on certain Thursdays. We were unaware of this, and also uninterested as we were there to eat and be merry(no drinking though since my beer was missing…) When the show started, it was so loud it was hard to carry on our conversations. Then one of the hosts of the show actually came over and SHUSHED our table, saying that we should be paying attention. Lady, I didn’t come to a comedy club. I came to a bar. And I don’t like being shamed by somebody for enjoying an establishment as its original purpose. One of the comedians even said«If you guys didn’t want to see comedy, we shouldn’t have come here» and refered to us as the«Ambush Table.» Once again to stress, this is a bar. A BAR. Anyways, over this place. Obviously the management here cannot manage the house or the staff properly. I have no desire to hang out in a place like this when there are more than enough options just like this in LA. Oh, and good luck finding the happy hour prices for anything. They’re not printed on the menus and my waitress(as you may have already guessed) was incredily unhelpful when I asked her about them.

Pretty cool lil dive-ish bar. I was told by a friend not to call it a dive, but I still consider it that. Went to see a band and loved both sets we got to see! Moscow Mules were great, however I had a better one AT the bar than when I sat at another table with friends. Strange thing was, they were all made by the same bartender. Staff is very friendly and attentive, especially at the bar. Take away from this… Sit at the bar. :)

Love love love the chicken wings! I’ve had the Sweet Chili and the the Buffalo wings along with a Wolf Among Weeds to wash it down. The wings were perfectly fried and crispy, exactly the way I like them! There was also a comedy night going on hosted by Chimp City. The beers are a little expensive but the food makes up for it. They’re also showing all games college and pro for the football season, so there’s plenty to watch while you eat and drink. This place is also good for groups though I think they could utilize the space a little better for more tables. Still, I have a good time when I’m there. I’m going back again just for some wings and a coke or beer. Parking is street metered and there is residential around although I don’t know their rules.

Hurry down to an awesome time at an awesome place. With wonderful music and a wonderful staff. Live bands, food n drinks. We can’t wait to comeback for the live comedy show. We can also enjoy the games On their flat screens. Carla is a great owner who really makes you feel welcome and Jaime gave us such wonderful service.

I had high hopes for Black Rose Tavern. We moved to the neighborhood this spring, and had a nice — albeit overpriced — experience there in March. Apparently it has since changed ownership, and the service has dramatically gone downhill. We bought a Groupon, not realizing this, and consequently had the worst dining experience of our lives.(So bad, in fact, I suggested to Groupon that it discontinue its relationship with the restaurant.) My boyfriend and I went in at 8 p.m. on a Wednesday night, while approximately a dozen other customers were in the restaurant. The next two hours can only be described as a Dante-esque nightmare. We were seated immediately and within a few minutes a man, who I understand to be the owner, brought us menus and apologized for that brief wait. That is where the positive experience ends. It took our server nearly 30 minutes to take our order. We ordered a burger and a chicken wrap. 45 minutes later our food arrived and my chicken wrap was hot and dried out on the top and lukewarm to cold throughout. It was disgusting. I couldn’t even eat half of it. It took another 30 minutes for our server to bring us our check, at which time she asked if I didn’t like the chicken wrap. I politely said, «It wasn’t good. It tasted like it sat under a heat lamp for half an hour.» She look sad, but offered no apology and didn’t ask if I wanted anything else instead. After we put our Groupon and credit card in the bill, it was another 20 minutes before she came back for it. We were stuck, and I was hangry, and it was VERY obvious we were unhappy. Meanwhile — the entire time we’re sitting there — the owners were sitting in the booth next to us. Eating. I’ve worked in a family-owned restaurant. I know how much it sucks for a server to have more tables than you can handle. I also know that in that situation — especially in a new business — it’s not asking too much for the owner or manager on duty to apologize for the slow service, or god forbid to pick up some of the slack and help out. We won’t be going back, and I sincerely hope the Groupon offer doesn’t lure too many others into waiting too long and paying too much for terrible food and worse service.

Top Notch Bar across the board. I had the privilege of playing here on two occasions with some other musicians, two different nights, two different crowds same response. The Black Tavern by outward appearances looks like a hole in the wall, however it’s quite the contrary once you step inside. Plenty quality seating at bar, nice table, or plush booths. The servers and bartenders are all cordial, everyone I’ve come in contact there is very friendly. The owners of the establishment are nothing short of awesome, they run the place like something their proud of and take pride in. A lot of times owners or operators interact with you strictly on a «need to know» basis and most of the time in their eyes«you never need to know». Not the case here, easy going folks, do a bang up job making sure everyone is satisfied. THEFOOD So there’s a baby whale sized BBQ pit/Smoker behind this gold mine and let me tell you, it cranked out one hell of a pork sammich. I’ve had Tennessee barbecue, I’ve had Kansas City Barbecue and I’ve had Texas barbecue. I’m a bit partial to Texas, and I’ve also had crappy imitation barbecue mostly in California, they didn’t play any games when it came to that sandwich. It’s was a great food coma. All in all I’d give this place a 10⁄10. Go check it out, unless you like poor service and food poisoning, then you have a lot of other options.

God, I am so happy I found this place! I was searching for a place to have a small get together(about 10 people) with some friends for my birthday. After finding out the Cheesecake Factory didn’t take reservations, I began to search Unilocal for alternatives. This place caught my eye, so I called to see if they could take my party. I was transferred to the owner, Carla, who was extremely friendly and really wanted to try to get us in. She ask that I call back the next day, since she was busy at the moment. When I did call back, she told me it wouldn’t be a problem, told me of these great bands that were coming in that night, and even gave me her personal cell in case my plans changed, or my party got bigger. We arrived at 8pm and it was relatively empty, but they had already reserved a booth for us. We were helped by Carla’s assistant manager(didn’t catch his name) and Morgan– both were attentive to our needs and quick to bring out food and drinks. Carla even came over and introduced herself, and came by a few more times to make sure our party was doing well. Customer service like this wins people over, and I hope more people start coming in to experience this place! It is a small, but cozy space, with a large stage where the bands played. The bands that played that night(especially the last one) were pretty good, and kept us entertained. The only small complaint was, their sound was very loud, making it hard to talk to people. Oh, and we missed happy hour! Bummer! All in all, a really great find and a great spot to come by with friends. They plan to expand a lot, in regards to entertainment, so I look forward to coming back! EDIT: HOWCOULD I FORGETTOTALKABOUTTHEFOOD?! We ordered some wings– amazing. Delicious. Covered in sauce which is every wing lover’s dream. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich, my boyfriend ordered a pastrami hamburger: again, delicious, flavorful, and perfectly portioned. Fries and onion rings were delicious. Have I said that the food was delicious?

Stopped by after shopping with bf because I had a Groupon that was about to expire. It’s divey, but in a good way. Clean with a nice vibe to it. I’m surprised this place wasn’t more crowded… we did show up 30 min after happy hour ended though. We were hungry so we ordered the Black rose sliders, buffalo wings, and fries. We also order some Mules and Whisky Sours. Black Rose Sliders: 5⁄5 The waitress recommended the pretzel bun sliders so decided on these which have guacamole, maple bacon, and ranch sauce. DE-LI-CIOUS. These were sooo good. Wings: 4⁄5 I like that they serve the wings with sauce on the side so the chicken stays real nice and crispy. The buffalo sauce was flavorful, just the right heat. A solid buffalo wing dish. Fries: 4⁄5 Well made steak fries with good flavor. Dip it in the ranch sauce and it’s even better. Drinks: 3.5÷5 Maybe they had a new bartender, but there was inconsistency with the drinks. Our first round of mules were decent, but tasted a little watered down. The whisky sours had a good amount of alcohol, but nothing special. The second round of mules were perfect, it was nice and refreshing, you could taste every ingredient. Staff: 5⁄5 Our waitress was great! Attentive and helpful with recommendations, she seemed happy to be there which always makes for a great experience. There was another guy who seemed to be the manager, he was friendly and also came around to talk to us and serve some of our food. Overall, I like this place. Good food, decent drinks, and a staff that cares. Check it out.

A diamond in the rough. By rough I mean Pico Robertson/SoRo and by diamond I mean really the only bar within a square mile radius. My local spot used to be The Phoenix on La Cienega but they closed up shop at the beginning of the year leaving me to scramble for a quick fix. Black Rose is actually even closer to me(around the corner) and does it’s job. Fantastic Happy hour until 7:30. Great drink AND food specials. Personal favorite: Try the pretzel bun sliders. HH special of pick 5 for $ 10. You won’t be disappointed. Unless you’re a vegetarian/preachy vegan. Spirit selection could be a tad better, but this place is a dive bar at heart so I can understand keeping it simple. Staff is friendly, and so are the managers/owners. Thursdays they do comedy and Fridays they often have bands. I tend to avoid these nights, but if mediocre standup or really LOUD live music is your thing, by all means knock yourself out! The sad part is there’s really not much of a «crowd». I don’t like it when places are so packed you can’t move, but this place could use a bit of a pick me up. I have noticed it getting a bit more busy which is cool, but I really think it’s a lack of marketing. Their FB/IG are pretty awful, and their website is reminiscent of the year 2000.(I fully offer my services as a Social Media/web/marketing manager guys!). They recently started doing breakfast/brunch on the weekends. I think they’re still ironing out the kinks, but if they added just a couple more food options and lowered their cost on their bottomless mimosas by a few dollars, I think they’d have a winning combo that would pull more people granted they get the word out there. All in all a good spot, come and check it out, bring your friends, and spread the word!

Once again… I’m torn. I don’t know if this place delivers because frankly their website is awful and doesn’t really have any info. But if this place DOES deliver, that’s the way to go. Because the food was surprisingly good. The ambience… not so much. I mean, I may have really liked it 20 years ago… but 20 years ago I wasn’t old enough to be in places like this. And… you see where I’m going with this? Those sliders… I don’t remember exactly what we ordered because I can’t find a recent menu online(website sucks, remember?). I went with one of the pretzel bun sliders… beef, guacamole, some onions(I think), some cheese and this delicious maple flavored bacon. Really good. Now understand, you get three sliders and that is IT… That’s for $ 9… how about charging $ 10 or $ 11 and throwing in some fries or onion rings? But those sliders were very nearly delicious. She had a veggie wrap, which was certainly colorful but also very lonely on it’s plate(sides, people… SIDES). She thought it was a bit dry — there was a sauce but very little of it. Our friend(who had a Living Social deal — OFCOURSE!), had an avocado bacon cheddar burger, which actually DID come with some fries. He liked it. Service is… well to say distracted is really being too nice. I’m sure the servers are busy bringing drinks to the assorted revelers. As such, don’t expect refills on water or basically any help. You’re on your own. So when your server does make it to your table, make sure you get all your requests in. And talk FAST because not once, not twice but THREE times our server just walked away while we were in the middle of a conversation/order with her. So yeah… again, delivery is the way to go here! There was a show starting when we were about to leave… a comedy act followed by what looked like a musical group. Not our thing. Once again, the word here is – DELIVERY. Otherwise it’s noisy and you’ll be frustrated with the lack of service. But those sliders… damn, those were good.

Divey bar on Pico. For it looking as divey as it does, it is not that dirty on the inside. Black Rose Tavermn is a typical dive bar with just okay food and okay drinks. The space inside is pretty big and it was kind of uncomfortably cold. Other than that, the employees there are friendly and keep up good conversation. Went there on a Saturday night and for a weekend night there were only about 10 people in the bar. Thought is was a little dead for a weekend. It may have gotten busier as the night went on. Had some chicken wings, onion rings, and some fries while I was there. It was just okay, typical dive bar food — Fried and greasy. Nothing too special. This is a good bar to start your night out or if you are looking for a dive bar to check out.

Me and my best friend ended up here after a nice relaxing day at the spa, only to end up with the worst nightmare and stress session of our lives! That spa day went down the drain! We came here as my friend is into all these groupons and we had wanted to get our eat AND drink on, so after all the amazing Unilocal reviews and photos we bought a $ 29 groupon for $ 50 worth of food, plus there a flyer that said«Reggae Nights» Friday’s from 9am to 2pm. We get there, excited to eat and my friend excited to dance to be seated ourselves and a 5 min wait before a waitress came over, fair enough. Out waitress, Meetra, was nice and friendly. Very flustered however, and possibly new. I asked for any special cocktails and a drink menu which she told me they did not have Cuz they were«lame» and this tried taking our order before we even had menus to see. We later order our drinks for them to arrive and as she is handing us the drinks, the bartender Ben proceeds to get in her space and angrily tell her to do something(you could feel the tension in the air!) before she proceeds to curse him out! And we know she curses him out because she asks us, if that was rude or not and if he should have been mean to her like that in the first place.(I’m all about sympathetic but that was a bit much and awkward). She takes our order, we ask her about the black rose sampler and the slider sampler for her to finally tell us they had no pulled pork left(which happens) and then we ask her if we can substitute onion rings for something else, she says yes and goes to the kitchen to come back and then say no… Okay… She then goes on break and tells us that she is and that good ol «Ben» would service is in the intermediate which NEVER happened. Yeah, he walked around. He even took my plates off my table, but I can’t tell you how many times I was looking around the room to refill my empty drink with no such luck– however, me and my friend both noticed him go up to our waitress on her break to yell about her some more. Whatever, not my problem(but not very professional either right?). We later go to use the groupon we bought, for the waitress to not know how to use it #1 and then tells us she can’t because it’s for 4– and so I tell her what happened, we’re missing our other two friends who bailed, to her tell me to go tell«her» at the front. «Her» turned out to be Christine, who turned out to be the manager and the worst one I’ve ever met in my life. Christine started to tell me no I could not use the groupon, and me being curious and not understanding asked her why. She said because it was for four people however we were just two. I then tell her what happened, our two friends aren’t here and she said sorry but no. I then, still calm at this point, ask her to see if there ANYTHING that can be done and she tells me yes, to pay the full tab!(Wtf) and of course I’m upset because I don’t know why she can’t take my groupon that I already paid for. So she proceeds go talk down to me, telling me I do not understand what she’s saying and how it’s not what I want to hear and there’s nothing she can do because she has no rights. My friend then comes up and asks her if we can just buy the $ 15 groupon for $ 25 worth(which the manager kept saying) and she agreed we could. Prior to that though, a regular patron offered to pay the difference to make everyone happy or at least«do what it takes» and she ignores him and continues charging me arguing her point. After 20 minutes– we buy the other two groupons to wait another 20 minutes while christine and Ben laughed about what happened at the front and our waitress was just seated. Christine finally comes back to tell us that she can use the groupon but alcoholic drinks were NOT included. Only to later change her story and tell me they were after I pulled the groupon up on my phone. She still wouldn’t honor both of them, even though she made us buy them and in all– I even spent $ 40 extra out of my own pocket! She was so rude, she made some snarky comment under her breath and could not handle the pressure that she kept huffing and puffing the whole time I just asked her to step away from me(this time the bouncer had been there for the last 10 minutes watching the whole thing confused). I had to ask her to step away before I told her to get out of my sight since she wasn’t doing anything anyways to make things better. Before I left I was adamant about getting a gm’s number for her to tell me no. We left as I figured I was going to google and find it anyway. Until… the bouncer saved the day, apologized to us while we were already halfway down the street to our car and gave me the general managers number. He told me this happens«a lot». Wtf. If this happens a lot, you need to either get the blank off groupon, fix it, or do something! If you need the business, you’re certainly not gonna get it like this lady! Awful–

We came in for a late lunch on a Sunday afternoon and were greeted with a friendly welcome. Luckily for us, it’s happy hour as long as an NFL game is on, and I think the Colts were getting their asses handed to them by the Cowboys(sad sad). It’s also happy hour every day from 5 – 7:30pm. They’ve got great specials on their appetizers and drinks. I tried my best to ignore the sad fate of the Colts by kicking back with a pint of Angry Orchard cider, which was refreshing and delicious. My husband had a Lagunitas IPA, and overall we were pretty satisfied with the craft beer selection. Not outstanding, but definitely some viable options for people who are not Budweiser fans. We gave the slider sampler platter a shot and were very happy with it. They all come on flavorful pretzel buns. The chorizo, BBQ pork, and chicken tender were particularly well-cooked and delicious. The cheddar bacon was yummy as well. They actually originally messed up our order a bit and gave us the Black Rose which we had not chosen, which was so-so… Fortunately they were kind and prompt about bringing us the correct slider. We also chowed down on the turkey meatballs, which were nice and moist and light. It comes with 3 dipping sauces — the chipotle is the best! Overall it was a nice, chill place to hang out — I’m sure it gets more lively during evening hours and when live music is playing. I am an old soul who prefers the daytime vibe, though — with the high ceilings, bright lights, friendly service, and calm ambiance, it was a great place to grab a beer and a bite. I’ll be coming back!

I wasn’t sure what to expect when a friend asked to meet at Black Rose for drinks after work for a much needed gossip sesh. It’s one of the only bars in the area, it’s relatively hidden on a busy street, and upon entering, it smells of day old spilled cocktails and alcohol breath. However, when our food and drinks arrived, I knew I’d be a fan. They have awesome happy hour specials from 5 – 7:30PM on weekdays!!! Great bar food at amazing prices and cheap well drinks. We had the turkey meatballs, steak fries, cajun shrimp and the slider sampler. It was a feast for less than $ 30 and everything tasted freshly prepared and sinfully satisfying. My favorite were the meatballs which came with three dipping sauces and less of a guilty conscience since they were turkey. They have a large variety of sliders to choose from, from traditional to veggie, chorizo, chicken and meatball. All were delicious and I would recommend sampling several. Service was a little slow – we had to wait an eternity for the check and even longer for them to process our credit card. But our grief was alleviated when we saw how cheap everything was.
