Came here for dinner and drinks with a couple of friends. The place was empty, but the service was solid and the food was absolutely delicious. We had wings, burgers, and a chili dog, which was outstanding. The only issue was the fact that a number of listed menu items(both food and drink) weren’t available. Highly recommend it.

The food is really good. For the price and what you get its a great place. Kind of strange setup. Beer needs to be served in a manner that you don’t feel you are being ripped off(too much foam but prices are good). Waitresses are obviously not bartenders but that’s ok. Really nice servers and just an overall good experience. I’d recommend it for a date.

Came here with the boyfriend. Shared a true burger, home fries and wings. The wings. They’re SOGOOD. Right amount of crunchy, sweet and a tad bit sour. Sooooo yummy. Totally get those. Service is good too.

I am so glad my husband dragged me here! Ok, I’m not a fan of «burger joints» — typically. They’re just burgers. I am strongly against them being gourmet and more than $ 5. Yeah, I’m a big fan of Astroburger, why do you ask? :) So, if you fundamentally disagree with that, you’re going to LOVE this review! Blind Weasel impressed the 20-dollar-bill right out of my wallet. The service staff; look, you’re either going to love her or hate her. I encourage you to embrace her. She really cares and wants you to enjoy what you’re paying for. I think it’s awesome to have someone passionate about their place of work! The food, however, is going to speak for itself, no matter what the staff says. Thick burgers, patties that almost fall apart BUTDON’T, and thoughtful ingredients on top. Ketchup that you’re going to want to bottle and take home. But slow down. Before that, try the beer and bacon brussell sprouts, for all that is good and holy. These aren’t those fancy Ruth’s Chris steakhouse style sprouts, but you’re not paying THAT much for them — so enjoy them. They could be a meal in themselves, they’re that plentiful. Some great beers are on top — crafts, and crowd pleasers — including Deschutes Black Butte, when I was there. They don’t throw in the towel on the dessert, so it’s advisable to save some room for the fried ice cream!

I’d have to say, for this place to have good customer service and décor/ambiance, it pains me give such a low review. Our burgers came out looking great, but before I could take my first bite out of my burger, half of the meat fell out of the bun. I ordered a turkey burger that probably wasn’t cooked all the way through and I am convinced the patty was created more like a doughnut to make space for all of the toppings on(rather in) the burger. For the price, I definitely want my burger to be whole and, preferably cooked all the way through. I continued my attempt at eating the crumbling mush-burger but got to a point where I couldn’t tolerate this new experience. The waitress graciously accommodated my concern with another burger that was tasty but was still questionable. Mind you, this was my first time here but the only thing that appeared consistent about our food was the inconsistency of how well the meat was cooked. If I had one suggestion for improving this place, it would be for the cooks to spend less time trying to dress up the burger to make it look pretty and spend more time cooking the meat. I highly doubt my wife and I will come back to this place.

cute place, pleasant atmosphere, not bad parking(since I got to park at their parking lot) clean restroom, unique, good, tasty food! Came here with some colleagues/friends last Friday 8.28.15 for Happy Hour. Drink: I had the frozen sangria and mimosa. I loved it! Well, it sure got me buzzed a little. I’ll definitely order the same thing when I go back. Entrée: Since I’m not so into burger, I couldn’t decide what to get. Some friends have already ordered truffle fries,(I tried 2 – 3 and I think it tasted really good) brussel spouts mixed with bacon and beer,(It was delicious) and deviled eggs(flavorful). *I ended up not ordering anything after my drink… I think they forgot to give me my supposedly 3rd cup of water but it’s all good since I had to go anyway. Employees looked nice and friendly. *Gotta go back!

Like previous reviewers, I have to say this isn’t at all what it used to be. The burgers are overpriced for what they are. The ingredients are smushed together and a bit«pasty,» for lack of a better word. The fries are apparently ok for some, but mine came out soggier than for others. On the plus side, service was good. And also true about it being dead inside at 12 noon. Not a good sign…

I was awfully bummed that Umami was gone, but after testing out the menu at True, all my fears were assuaged. The food was delicious and the service was great. And finally I don’t have to pay for parking!!! I’ll definitely be back.

I have driven by True Burger often, but didn’t stop in to try it until yesterday. My hesitation primarily came from seeing it always empty. Umami Burger used to be in the same location and was usually packed, until they inexplicably closed. Two things caught my attention from the moment I walked into True Burger: 1) there were no other people dining here, and 2) the menu was very reminiscent of Umami. I liked Umami, so I was eager to give the food here a try. I ordered the jidori chicken sandwich and split the home fries and onion rings. The sandwich was really good, and had a great combination of ingredients. The BBQ sauce really set it off well. The home fries and the onion rings were decent, but the various sauces we tried for them were not that good. No sauce seemed to mesh well with the fries or the onion rings. Another bummer about True Burger is that the beers on tap were down. It is only two beers, but Blue Moon is one of them and the one that I wanted. I went with a Virgil’s Root Beer instead. I will definitely try True Burger again simply because of how the chicken sandwich tasted. Next time I’ll probably give the sweet potato fries a shot to see if they are better than the sides I’ve had so far.

I came here because My favorite burger joint was closed. I ordered the True burger that is topped with friend onions. I found it to be really bland. I wish I could add more but a bland burger means a bland review. The server was really sweet though but at the end of the day it’s the food that takes over.

I really enjoyed my experience here at true burger! There wasn’t one customer when I walked into the store and I was super confused. I chose this place to eat and my boyfriend was already doubting my choice due to the lack of customers. BUT the food definitely proved him wrong. We got the truffle fries which were bomb AF! And then we got the brunch burger and the carne asada burger. They were both extremely special and gourmet and they were both really good. The size of the burger is just big enough for you to get full :) PLUS even though it’s on the streets of LA it’s not street parking! They have a little turn in parking lot which makes it that much easier to go to.

Gourmet burger joint that is TRUE-ly spectacular(see what I did there?). I had a wonderful experience here and highly recommend to any burger fanatics. It’s a cute little spot on La Brea and I love love love that they have a private lot to park in. That’s a little rare in L.A. Mid-Wilshire area, to me at least. Came here because my good friend Nick A.(check out his review and follow him on Unilocal!) brought me for a dinner meeting. Great choice, Mr. Nick! We were about to go to the taco joint across the street but it was MUCH too loud to sit down and discuss anything so we came here. Nice quiet environment and they also offer outdoor seating too(I think). Staff is SUPERRRR friendly. I can’t emphasize that enough. Catered to our every needs and didn’t make us feel as we were bothering her or anything(which I usually worry about). We just casually mentioned it was a bit stuffy and she went to turn the air on right away and constantly came by to check to make sure everything was good. I really like and appreciate that! Tried their grass fed beef burger –o-m-g– to die for and had a sample of their frozen beer. Sounds SO good right about now on this hot Cali day! Tempted to stop by there after work! You’re paying for quality and service here and it’s SOVERYWELLWORTHEVERYDOLLAR! yum yum yum. Puts other burger joints to shame! Try it and let me know if you feel the same! Enjoy fellow Unilocalers!

True burger is a relatively small restaurant on la brea which can be easily missed. Has a private parking lot. They serve many different kinds of burgers and is unique in their flavors. I really wanted to try the la Italiana but got the carne asada burger instead. It has guacamole, pico de gallo and a toasta da in the middle which gave it a good crunch. They give you two party options for each burger: grass fed, which is 1 oz. bigger and around $ 2 more, and corn fed patty which is the smaller, cheaper option. We also tried the chipotle cheese fries and I could have done without them. They were pretty bland and tasteless, I would have like the truffle fries more. Also, they have a separate room w a giant tv that sits a group of what look like 6 to 8. Overall, pretty good place!

True Burger is home to the old Umami burger spot. Because of this, I was hoping it would be someting special. Very small and clean place with indoor only seating. However, I was a bit disappointed. To start, I ordered the pizza tortilla which was decent and unique. However the onion rings that looked really good we’re just meh. Didn’t have very much crispness and lack seasoning. Now for the burger, even though they used premium seasoned meat, the burgers on the menu in my opinion were trying to do too much. All the sweet dressings and«creative“condiments for the burgers were too overpowering for a burger which tasted deliscious on its own. If they just stuck to an ordinary cheeseburger, that would work a lot better. Sometimes simple is better.

Thank God True Burger has taken over the old Umami location!!! This was another contender in my quest for the best burger in LA, I have to say that it’s pretty dang good. The service and the sides definitely make this a well rounded experience. 1. The True burger– comes with onion straws that add texture, bacon jam & roasted tomato that combined add sweetness. It’s a little on the sweet side of the flavor spectrum for a burger. I kinda like my burger to stay more savory than sweet but ehhh. The bun is the best I’ve had in a while I appreciate the heavy toast on the bottom bun, it keeps it from falling apart(burger juice *drool) 2. Fries and onion rings are addicting!!! 3. The pickled plate is AMAZING!!! The pickled peaches and beets are ridiculously good! While the burger isn’t the best I’ve had(it’s still really good), the service being crazy friendly and the rest of their food being so delicious(unlike Fathers Office that only has a one trick pony in its burger) make this a place I’d definitely visit again.

I’m so glad my friend was craving burgers today! We happened to be on the Westside, dropped into True Burger for lunch, and the rest is history. The restaurant itself is small, but natural light pours in through all-glass walls and creates a really bright, cheerful environment. Tupac was playing when we first walked in and I was instantly enamored… I’m 100% on board with anywhere that endorses old school hip hop and meat. We shared the Truffled Fries to start and they were fried to PERFECTION– seriously, next-level frying magic and it’s alllll good. There was an audible crunch with each bite, but the golden fries weren’t greasy at all… how? The condiments get my stamp of approval as well– the chipotle ketchup had nice smoky flavor and the chipotle aioli was surprisingly light for a mayo-based sauce. The one criticism i had was that instead of truffled oil, there was a truffled cheese sauce(?) covering the fries. The truffle flavor was a bit muted, but the fries were still bomb. I got the True Burger and it was love at first bite. The sweet, lightly-buttered buns remind me a lot of King’s Hawaiian bread– they were soft, but the burger itself held up well without falling apart. Crispy onion straws and fresh greens added some welcome textural contrast and there were real hunks of crisp bacon in the sweet and savory bacon jam. With the sweet buns, everything came together harmoniously and made for the most satisfying flavor explosion. A little sweet, a little salty– it all worked so well. The meat was perfectly medium, juicy, and packed with flavor. My friend’s Carne Asada burger was crazy good as well. It’s a nonconventional burger featuring homemade guacamole, slow roasted tomatoes, a fried tortilla, and salsa verde. The fried tortilla added a great crunch and it tasted like all the flavors I love most about Mexican food rolled up in a quality burger. She got corn-fed beef and, call me ignorant, but I couldn’t taste the difference. I would highly recommend this burger to anyone looking for a great-tasting burger with a slight twist. Service was great– our waitress was super attentive and really sweet. She always kept our water glasses full and was very personable, which I always appreciate. As if everything wasn’t wonderful enough already, True Burger locked me in with even more Tupac and Destiny’s Child circa 1999. I felt like I’d stepped back into the ‘90s in the best way possible. I’m a fan and am going to dream about those fries tonight(yeah right, I wish).

Zee Burger is indeed, Trueeeeeeeee! Been here a few times. Some dining in, other times for delivery. Yes, they do deliver. I mean, they Re located in Midtown/Mid Wilshire so if you live in Santa Monica or Sherman Oaks you miiiiiiiiiight have to come in physically to enjoy the experience. First off, there is parking. They have their own lot that can fit about 5 – 6 cars. Not s big lot but it is FREE and helps avoid tricky parking sometimes on La Brea. Inside, there is fair amount of tables and seating areas. Tables ranging from 1 – 2 per and like 5 – 6 per. Also, a private bar area in a sub room equipped with a tv for any small type office party one may be having. THEFOOD: I’ve been a fan of the Carne Asada Burger from here since jump! Completed with guacamole, a tortilla, spicy onions and your option of grass or corn fed beef this is a selection that will make your mouth water for sure! Several options for French fries as well: * Seasonal * Sweet Potato * Wedges * Truffle Endless fry combinations here ladies and gents. OHYEAH! And if you take your meal to go, your fries are boxed in this wonderful to-go container that has open vents so that when hit reach home your fries aren’t soggy and moist. The vents help maintain the crisp and freshness to the fry. Excellent touch! Drinks are standard(sodas and such) and they usually have a beer option(one or two to choose from). Beer selection seems to change here so there’s never just one constant selection, which is nice. Oh yeah, they do this frozen beer slushie kinda thing. I’m not too into the idea, tried it and it just wasn’t for me. Give me a regular beer and I’m good. Thanks though. OVERALL: Extremely clean water closet(bathroom) equipped with ample soaps and towels and candles. Actually there are candles dispersed throughout the whole spot. Nice touch. Staff super helpful and friendly, not usually too packed when I come here but a great place to grab a bite and chill. You might be familiar with the location if you drive by. It replaced the original UMami Burger. But this spot is really worth the try.

When Umami vacated this location, I was wondering how a new burger joint was going to survive in the same space. However, True Burger really hold its own! We initially came here to try the frozen beer but I was pleasantly surprised by the meal! Ordered: *La Italiana(Smoked Mozzarella, Homemade Marinara, Fresh Basil Pesto Aioli, Prosciutto di Parma, E.V.O.O., Herbed Parmesan Crisp): With a turkey patty instead. While the substitution disclaimer is a little bit dramatic(«Making modifications does change the overall flavors and experience of every burger. Make modifications at your own risk.»), the server was more than happy to accommodate my non-beef eating ways. The burger itself was DELICIOUS. I love chicken parms and this was just as hearty but all the textures with the amazing parmesan crisp & Prosciutto. TBH, I’d venture to say this is better than Umami! Their True Ketchup is also marinara-like! Thicker texture(love!) and slightly sweeter. Shared: *Pickle Plate(Sweet Pickled Peaches, Lotus roots, Cherry Grape tomato, Pearl onions, White Button Mushrooms, Heirloom Baby Carrots, Yellow Chili, Persian Cucumber): It was a fascinating assortment of pickled items! I’ve never had lotus root pickled nor peaches/pears or mushrooms! Surprisingly tasty. *Truffled Fries(Tossed in truffled oil and laced with Black Summer Truffle shavings): YESANDYES. The truffle was almost more like truffle cheese texture but the fries were deep-fried to perfection so it didn’t get soggy. *Chipotle Fries(Tossed in homemade chipotle sauce and parmesan cheese): This was good too but the Truffled Fries were just so good that it overshadowed the Chipotle fries. The frozen beer is a great concept but I wish it were like a beer slush! You can order lagunitas or blue moon & the top is the frozen part. Eh! Not True Burger’s fault, I guess I’m just not a frozen beer fan!

Once Umami, now True Burger! It may seeeeem like True Burger is a dupe for Umami, but believe that it is not. What I got: The True Burger. Absolutely delicious. Simple. Perfect bun, and I mean a perfect bun. Not like Umami’s where it gets soggy during the meal. It was soft and held the patty juice the way a burger bun should! And the size didn’t overwhelm nor did it underwhelm the size of the patty. Proportionately THUMBSUP! The Brunch Burger. Equally satisfying, and obviously heartier. The egg yolk was runny right and the hashbrown was crunchy. It was pretty much the perfect marriage of a burger and breakfast components :) And lastly, the chipotle fries. Wow. Where do I begin. The flavor within each fry was BURSTING. The texture was CRUNCHY, slightly SWEET, and totally worth going just for the fries. Can’t tell what they did, but not like they just topped it off with flavor. Definitely some sort of marinating going on in there. So good, I purposefully didn’t finish my burger in order to fill up on the fries! Glad Umami left and True burger opened :)

I think it’s a little deceiving to say you have a «happy hour» when really you should call it a special. burger + frozen beer or you can get a fountain drink if you’re not a drinker for $ 10 is their«happy hour». No! That’s not what happy hour is! My girlfriend and I decided to split their«happy hour» burger which was the something Komuki? I can’t remember what it was called, it started with a K.(I tried to look it up on their menu but maybe it was a special thing because it’s not on there.) But basically it was corn fed beef with sautéed shitakes, grilled onions, tomato jam, white cheddar and their homemade ketchup. Mehh. it was okay. Very heavy on the tomato flavor. It was a little too sweet with the tomato jam and the ketchup. It definitely had an Asian flair to it. We also shared the chipotle fries and those come tossed in sauce. It was okay. Lacked seasoning and you have to eat these quick before they get soggy! The boyfriend had their True Burger and he seemed to enjoy his. I probably should have snuck a bite because his looked a lot better than mine. So what is frozen beer? I really don’t have a clue. It’s beer with frozen icy stuff on the top that makes it look like a beer float, but it’s not ice cream. Was the icy stuff beer? I couldn’t tell. All it was really was watering down my beer. So no, I didn’t really like this concept. True Burger is definitely a place to go grab a burger and leave. Not much of an atmosphere. You counter order, you sit, you eat, you leave. But just in case, they do have 2 beers on draft.
