Yum, Yum, Yum! I had the most amazing vegan, chocolate chip cake for my birthday! The cake was rich, tasty, and enjoyable! I never would have known that it was a vegan cake if it were not advertised as such!!! My family enjoyed it as well! I was very pleased with the service and quality of my cake as provided by the Staff Members at Breakaway Bakery! Thank you Breakaway Bakery for helping to make this such a happy occasion!!!

I was thrilled to find a bakery in my neighborhood with lots of vegan options! I satisfied a craving for sweets – BUT the cookies, cupcakes, and donuts contain WAY too much sugar. I can’t go back again because nothing was any good. :-(

This place was unbelievably bad! I was looking forward to trying this since I saw the write ups and was terribly disappointed. We even called ahead and they were putting aside two challahs under our name. When we got there they were very disorganized, busy and didn’t have our order. The bread that we got that was supposed to be challah, was nothing like that. It was burnt on the top and could be used as a weight since it was so heavy. I had been hyping up going to try this bakery since my mother is visiting and also gluten free. The rugelach and pastries we tried were sugary without much taste. I’ve tried Many Places and this one doesn’t even compare to the worst I’ve had.

I’m very happy to have found a gluten-free bakery! My mom is very sensitive to gluten, and I support Vegan ideals, although I am not the strict one. We got the raspberry crunch square, and a mocha chip cookie. Both tasted really good, although the cookie was a little dry. We will have to come again and try some new things! Lucky for me they are open till 3PM on Sunday, as I can’t wake up early, even for sweets.

My least favorite«allergy» friendly bakery in LA. Still some good dessert options but many are just overly sweet. Frosting is a bit waxy. The staff is veRy unfriendly here too. I have yet to receive a smile. It makes me wonder if they are overworked? or not treated well? Or just a grumpy staff. Nevertheless a place to try if you have food sensitivities…

I ordered the chocolate cake with chocolate frosting for my daughter’s birthday, and it was DELICIOUS! It’s nice to indulge in a pastry that has good ingredients, it’s an all-around win. This is a cute little bakery in Mid-City(first time in this area). I think I was helped out by the owner, who was a really nice lady. She even gave me a freebie pastry for driving out so far. I’ll definitely be back!

LOVELOVELOVE!!! I wish there was a location closer to the west side. Located in a sketchy area is this wonderful tiny bakery that serves up some of the best vegan and gluten free pastry items. Their cinnamon roll was one of my favorite while my partner enjoyed a few thumb print cookies that were fairly similar to their regular shortbread counterpart. Pleaseeeee open a store some where on the west side or please places in locations like groundworks coffee or other pastry stores. Underrated store that deserves more recognition for their genius ways of making vegan and gluten free pastries taste delicious!

I ordered an expensive gluten free chocolate cake and the consistency is sandy and the taste is not good. I will not order gluten free cake in this place ever. It’s not worth for the money that their asking, Ralph’s $ 10 dollar cake is much better.

I’ve been doing handyman work for the owners for a few years but never took out the time to sample some of the treats even when asked. I always thought a guy whose diet consists of mostly of cholesterol it would be wasted on me. Until the owner handed me a gluten free brownie. WOW! Then I had to try a cookie, and then some other pastries. And I never realized how delicious gluten free bread could be. Plus, everything is organic if that matters to you. I also wanted to mention while fixing things around the employees, they were always quick to ensure that whatever I was doing would not contaminate their environment Never experienced that in any restaurant I worked at.

The LO has a gluten allergy, which sucks because she loves bread and other desserts. So, we try to find gluten free bakeries so she can enjoy cupcakes and donuts without any worry. We just have to make sure the don’t use a nut flower, because she is allergic to nuts, especially peanuts. Breakaway offered apt of cool selections that looked very tasty. We got the chocolate donut and the double chocolate cupcake and vanilla cupcake with chocolate frosting. Everything was pretty good and not too dry like other gluten free desserts. The cons: they close at 5pm, they are closed on Saturday and they are far from our home.

Unfortunately I didn’t get to try this bakery. It was my friend’s birthday, and he has a real sweet tooth, though he just found out that he’s gluten intolerant. I figured this bakery would be a cool birthday treat. Sadly, when I arrived there weren’t any cupcakes left. In fact, there wasn’t much of anything on display at all. The woman at the counter informed me that she wasn’t making anything else because she closed in an hour. She patronizingly added that next time I could order ahead, said goodbye, then turned and left the room. Impressively dismissive, rude, and cupcake-less, this staff person made sure I won’t be back.

This place makes the best vegan sweets. I’ve been going to Erin McKenna’s Bakery for a while, and this one is closer, cheaper, and(in my opinion) tastier. The woman who greeted my girlfriend and I was very polite and helpful, the donuts on display all looked delicious, and, when asked, they offer a comprehensive list of ingredients to satisfy your curiosity. 5⁄5 will be going again soon.

My ABSOLUTEFAVORITE bakery in L.A. Everything is amazing. The coffee muffins are addictive, the lemon and raspberry bars have the perfect texture and aren’t skimped on the jam, rugelach is different and delicious, shortbread, the brownies. I have never had anything I didn’t think was OUTOFTHISWORLD insanely good. I started coming here because I can’t have gluten, but every time I bring it to work or over a friends’ not only do they have no idea it’s gluten free, they are insistent on going back and getting more! I’m the Breakaway pusher man in my squad :-) I order as soon as they open and put it on my credit card because I know they sell out/rotate their pastries seasonally. The coffee muffins and pinches go first! Call ahead if you want to get your hands on them or they won’t be there when you go by, they’re a hot commodity.

Just not that great as far as gluten-free bakeries go, which says a lot because there aren’t a whole lot around. It’s very small and there was not a large selection, probably fine if you’re in the area and want a quick donut fix. I came in asking for a crusty bread or a baguette, and was told, «We’re a gluten-free bakery.» When I told her that’s why I was there, she said, «Well, you can’t make those gluten-free. You need gluten for the structure.» I was surprised to hear that, as the gluten-free bakery in my old neighborhood had fabulous baguettes and boules. If I had been told, «Sorry, that’s not something we carry,» that would have been totally fine, but the woman on register was very patronizing and made me feel bad for asking. It’s really not helpful to customers if you’re ill-informed about your product. Just tell me you don’t make it and we’ll call it a day. I don’t some weird concocted reasoning, particularly if I know it’s not true. I hoped to support a local small business but in the end found what I needed at Whole Foods. :/

The nice thing about this place is that you have GF vegan options, but for more variety you need to order 24 hs in advance. Also have in mind this is not a vegan only bakery. The vegan options have a ribbon. Not everything that is on the pictures is readily available, some stuff you need to order. The only bad thing was the girl who was serving. She had so little patience and such a bad humor that at some point i just wanted to leave the store. She gave little to no information about the products. Eventually someone from the back took over and was much nicer!!!

This is a terrible bakery and I’m surprised the reviews are as high as they are. we got a cinnamon roll that was okay-ish, and a donut that was absolute garbage. so dry, the texture was like sand. I had no idea it was possible to make a crappy donut, but clearly it is. The staff was nice, location was nice, and there are lots of vegan options, which is why they get two stars instead of one. But for real, their food is awful.

BREAKAWAYBAKERYTOTHERESCUE! My husband and I both have food allergies(gluten and dairy), so finding a wedding cake was looking impossible. We had almost settled on cupcakes for us and sheet cake for the guests when we found this place. The cake was as delicious as it was beautiful — everything we could have wanted. Janice was so friendly and helpful. Truly a great experience. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Always good to have options. Gluten Free, vegan, and any other issues you might have. The baked goods are tasty. I like their tiny little donuts.

I am a semi-regular here… I love it when the owner herself is present because she really cares about her patrons and pastries. and that is a winning combination. I would highly recommend their chocolate mint items –there was one that had a ganache like middle and a crumbly cookie base covered in dark chocolate. I would devour that again… the lemon bars are nice for a healthier version of one… I think their standout is the cranberry oat cookies — dang, I love them. I am curious about their molasses cookie now, but I gifted most everything I bought If the owner is there, you can expect some nice gift-able boxes of goodies to be put together with help in selecting the contents… if someone comes out from the back with a cap on, don’t be surprised if service is not a forte… I would have been offended this visit if I had not had such nice visits are so many previous occasions. I appreciate this place uses only organics and no fillers/gums/common allergens, etc… I would love it if there were some diabetic-friendly options. That would make their treats even more gift-able…

I know why this bakery is called«Breakaway» bakery… It’s because it breaks away from the«cookie cutter»(see what I did there) bakeries spotted all over Los Angeles like chicken pox! Breakaway Bakery is dedicated to catering to the vegan, vegetarian, allergen-plagued individuals who love shoving sugary goodness in their mouths and this tiny corner shop with only a few different assortments of goods, knows how to satisfy! My goody-loving vegan friend about dropped trow when she walked into this bakery… But she knew that would be grounds for being kicked out so instead she opened her wallet instead! She wound up purchasing $ 9 worth of treats, including a few cookies, a cupcake and a maple donut. She was THISCLOSE to buying a $ 6 bag of bagels but her waistline reprimanded her before she could grab them! The moans and groans I heard in the car… Match the noises one might hear in a porn film! Too much? Hey, I only speak the truth here. If you think you’ve reached food gasm and have never been to Breakaway Bakery, well then, you actually have only experienced a false tasty climax! Sink your teeth into the donuts, the cupcakes, the cookies, oh my, and your life will be forever changed! For those of you who think vegan, allergen-free food is about as tasty as saw dust sprinkled with sand, prepare to be SMACKEDINTHEFACE with a rolling pin when you take your first bite of this vegan BLISS.
