I just saw«An Act of God» at the Ahmanson. Sean Hayes did a Wonderful Job! The Ahmanson is a great theater! I’ve enjoyed many shows here and at the Taper & Dorothy Chandler. Parking in the lot is a pain when the economy entry is over. There’ s a Parking Lot across the street for easy exit. Taking the Metro for Matinée performance is convenient. The seating is good & the staff are helpful

Scored tickets to «We Will Rock You», the Queen rock musical. I hadn’t been to a musical in a few years, so I was stoked and the show sounded unique. I’m not the biggest fan, but watching«We Will Rock You» made me appreciate Queen on a whole new level. The theatre itself is small. Don’t expect the Pantages. It’s plain, but nice. Because we were there to see«We Will Rock You», our semi-casual attire was acceptable. Some people were dressed like they were going to a concert. Garage parking is available, but we scored a meter spot by the Disney Concert Hall. The courtyard area is really nice and you can get a meal or a drink before the show starts. The fountain is really beautiful at night and the view of Grand Park is just as lovely. The theatre isn’t anything fancy, but the acoustics are great. Drinks and snacks are available in the lobby and you can take them to your seats. Get there early so you can find parking and get to your seats without having to climb over people. The show was so good that we attended it twice. In a world sometime in the future, we will be without rock n roll. The lead characters were solid, however, that supporting cast was amazing. To write a story around song lyrics is pretty challenging, I imagine. The show had everything you could ask for. Diverse characters, humor, great costumes and choreography. The band rocked it and the female lead had major pipes. The end of the performance really felt like we were at a concert.

Ótimo teatro. Vim aqui para assistir o musical The Bridges of Madison County, e a experiência foi bem positiva.

Came with my girlfriend tonight to see the bridges of Madison county! What a fabulous girlie date, served wine water coffee chocolates. Parking easy not too far of a walk– theatre clean and every seat in the house is a good seat.

A couple of weeks ago we attended a performance of The Bridges of Madison County at the Ahmanson Theater — we had seats in rows DFG off the asile — acquired with HOTTIX offered through the Center Theater Group for $ 25 + 10% if using a credit card. The seats right next to ours’ were selling for $ 100 each in orchestra! We saved a cool $ 440 with our 5 tickets! The venue was rather optimal + once the curtain went up we quickly relocated our seats almost center in an empty row! Service was perfect and the experience was just a «AAA» experience. Moving portrayals and singing were framed cleanly on stage, We parked on the street saving what looked like $ 18 but I did have to walk a couple of blocks.

This review is strictly for Bridges of Madison County this last Sunday, not the Ahmanson(which I love). Since this is the first show in LA, not going to spoil the plot if you haven’t seen it. The music is 2die4, rapturous(as one of the critics mentions). However, the singing of Francesca(Elizabeth Stanley) while beautiful, was unintelligible to me. She sings a believable soprano but you just can’t make out the words. Even with seats in front, it was hard to understand Elizabeth Stanley’s Italian immigrant accent: she’s supposed to be an immigrant from Naples Italy but sounded Russian immigrant also. While the music was beautiful and melodramatic, the storyline was a bit disjointed, the play dragged on, 2 hours and 45 minutes worth. On the other hand, Adam Sandusky as Robert stole the show. His role was present, singing ‘rapturous’, and overall made the play believable and enjoyable. If you like romance novels or chick flicks, this is the play for you! Visits: many, since High School with parentals Tip: Play ends January 17, 2016. Orchestra bar is very quick with serving drinks during intermission. Not many people crowding up for drinks during intermission. You can also pre-order drinks. I love the Ahmanson, it’s a cultural spot in LA. If you haven’t been here it’s a must.

I’ve been enjoying theater productions here since the 1970s, that was with my high school drama department. In more recent years with my wife and other family and friends, we’ve seen The Phantom of the Opera here 3 times, The Color Purple, Mary Poppins, Dreamgirls, Fiddler On The Roof, and most recently, The Trip To Bountiful. All extremely well done productions. We’ve sat in every section; Orchestra, Mezzanine and Balcony. All of which provide good views of the stage. My most memorable moments were: Davis Gaines as The Phantom; his performance was outstanding compared to the other actors I’ve seen. I totally missed Michael Crawford and Robert Guillaume in the role! Topol, in his farewell tour after over 2300 stage performances as Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof. He is the same actor in the popular 1971 film version directed by Norman Jewison. He was nominated for an Academy Award as Best Actor, as was the movie for Best Film. As close to watching the movie as a stage production can get. Topol was only in his 30s when the movie was made, but for this stage production, no need for heavy makeup, now in his 70s. «TRADITION!» Seeing Cicely Tyson live on stage in The Trip To Bountiful. She steals most every scene; but it was hard to take your eyes off of Ms. Vanessa Williams… still very much a heartthrob! And in one of my few balcony seatings, it was pretty cool watching Mary Poppins fly across the stage, and right up through the ceiling! Almost directly in front of us!!! One drawback that only the overweight patrons might notice, several years ago the Ahmanson went through an extensive remodeling. And with that, I and several others, have noticed a considerable reduction in seat space. Now being that I’ve lost some 70 pounds in about the last 10 years, not as noticeable for me on recent visits. But overall, a grand space for theater going.

Wonderful theatre in the heart of L.A. Great place to see plays, musicals, and comedies. The Ahmanson has a classic proscenium stage designed for musicals and plays that seats 1600 to 2000 people in three levels. Parking is available underneath the theatre for $ 9. We sat on the main orchestra floor in row K, right smack in the middle. They were fantastic seats and we had front and center views of the musical. We were fortunate enough to see the Sound of Music, which was just phenomenal. I’m still singing some of the songs three days later! The whole cast was wonderful, especially Ashley Brown who plays the Mother Abbess. What voices! The acoustics in the theatre allows their voices to travel effortlessly. Highly recommend seeing them before they head off to their next destination on their North American tour. You still have 8 days left as of today(ends Oct 31)! Upcoming performances include The Bridges of Madison County, Sean Hayes’ An Act of God, and the Titanic.

Here to experience The Sound of Music with few good friends and family. Parking was like a maze, but there were many parking attendants who guided so there were no guessing where to park. There are other more updated theaters around, but the quality of the musicians and artists in this musical were just as equal if not better than some I’ve seen and heard. Musical: 5 stars Ambience: 5 The theater: 3

This place is cultural treasure of LA! But my review will be based on the Sound of Music that I watched last saturday night with my another older cousin and her son. You know you must have«something good» if audience members like Ernie aka my cousins 7 yrs old son are immediately ready for an encore! That’s exactly what happened last saturday when Ernie and I caught the last weekends night performance of the SOUNDOFMUSIC at the Ahmanson. Not only was 7 yrs old boy often on the edge of his seat and literally singing about his own favorite things during intermission, but he asked me if he could catch another performance next weekend. Seating — we were seating at the first row of the balcony and we got a Birdseye view of the stage. In fact, it was quite quite height from the stage. It was almost as if we were in the Austrian Alps and looking down at the convent in Salzburg. However, we still had a great view of the stage and the acoustics were satisfactory. I am not gonna say Ahmanson theatre has as much characteristics as Pantage, but we were there to enjoy the revival of great musical and not to dwell on the architecture… Reviews about the musical itself. Kristen Anderson stars as Maria Rainier in the Sound of Music tour, which is directed by Jack O’Brien and playing at the DTLA theatre through October 31 on the day of Halloween. Capturing the spirit of a young, flighty postulant at Nonnberg Abbey, Anderson endears herself to the Mother Abbess(the beyond amazing Ashley Brown) and the audience as someone well-meaning but who doesn’t exactly fit in. As the iconic movie celebrates its 50 year anniversary this year, watching a musical at Ahmanson is a heartfelt reminder of just how wonderful the story is and how beautiful the songs are and Anderson’s voice knocks it out of the park — or Should I say Alps? The story follows the young Maria who is sent by the Mother Abbess to be a governess to the Von Trapp family. There’re seven children all together(Liesl, Friedrich, Louisa, Kurt, Brigitta, Marta and Grietl) and Captain George Von Trapp(Ben Davis) who treats his household like naval ship. Maria quickly became an integral part of the children’s lives — teaching them beautiful music and songs like Doremi, My favorite things, and the Lonely Gothered and then eventually became quite integral to Captain Von Trapp’s life. In addition to the talented adults performers(Did I mention just how awesome Ashley Brown was?), the actors playing Von Trapp kids looked as if they were having the greatest time. When I mentioned to the parents that I was taking Ernie, the big question was about the Nazi that so many people tend to forget is the part of the story. Yes, the story takes place during WWII Austria as the Nazianz are moving in from Germany. While that element plays are larger role in the film version of the story, Nazi story line certainly figures in to the musical. There’s one particular scene where Captain sings Edelweiss which drives home the régime’s influence in striking visual way. That said, there’s no violence and or harsh language, and that part seems much smaller than in the film. Just be prepared to answer any questions about that infamous flag. Ernie and I had so much fun, and it was such an amazing way for outing with cousin where we could sing all the way home. To make it even more special, Kendall’s Brasserie and Bar at the Music Center is offering a special themed Children’s menu(Think Vienna style chicken schnitzel and Apple strudel among other offerings) during the run of the show…

I love the Unilocal reviews of the Ahmanson. Everyone simply reviews the show they just saw like they are theater critics. Nevermind any details about the theater. The Ahmanson puts on some great productions. The theater itself is nothing special. It almost has no pizzazz at all(especially if you compare it with a palace like the Pantages). It’s really just a big box. However, the acoustics are very good which is obviously important. We sat near the far back of the orchestra section and the seats and sightlines were great. However, on the sides of the orchestra section, the view of the stage just plain sucks. It’s a very awkward and skewed angle. I would never sit there. All of the employees were super friendly and the fact you can buy and take a drink into the theater from the lobby is very modern and refreshing. If you have a kid, or if you are just height challenged, ask for one of their giant pleather cushions. They are impressive. Lots of complaints on Unilocal about parking. Ok, there’s a pay parking garage right next to the Catholic cathedral on Temple. It’s an easy 5 minute walk to and from the theater and very reasonably priced. You’re welcome. And to the enormous slob with the enormous head who sat in front of me: you wore shorts? Very classy. And to the morons who brought their screaming and crying baby? Shame on you. I almost forgot: The Sound of Music was delightful.

Just saw Sound of Music here. It’s a very good production and I recommend it. Over the years I have seen a few shows here. It’s a modern Broadway Theater. Comfortable, clean, very good sound. While seats in the Balcony Level are inexpensive, I do not recommend them. It’s way too high up – this is not your normal balcony – it’s very high and steep. It would be the height of a double balcony in most theaters. You feel like you are about to fly up there. For the 1st half of Sound of Music I had a 3rd Row Center Balcony seat($ 25.00) to save $$, and 30 minutes into the 1st half – with 20⁄20 vision I was having eye strain. Plus its hard to concentrate on the dialog up there. I don’t know why they built the balcony so high up. For the second half – I moved down to the Mezz – they had some open seats. Mezz is a small section. Anywhere in the Mezz or Orchestra 1st2⁄3 from the stage will be fine. You don’t want to be higher than Mezz in this theater. When I was in the Mezz, I looked up toward the Balcony – it seemed so far away like they could almost have their own show up there and not disturb anyone.

Opened in 1967, Ahmanson Theatre is a contemporary theatre located right across from the Grand Park with somewhat convenient, but yet confusing(multiple underground layers) parking structure. Parking is $ 9(flat rate) and there’s a parking entrance located on the Grand Ave. I almost walked into the wrong venue, but Ahmanson Theatre is adjacent to Mark Taper Forum. For will call tickets, the staff only asks for the first and last name of ticket holder. There are three different levels: balcony(least expensive), mezzanine, and orchestra(most expensive). Acoustic systems are excellent and mezzanine offers a good bird’s-eye view(you can’t see actors’ faces clearly without a 20⁄20 vision). Unfortunately, orchestra seats are expensive and balcony seats are pretty far away from the stage. There are no male restrooms on the mezzanine level and you’ll have to walk downstairs just to find one. If you step out for the restroom break during the show, then you’ll have to wait until the audience starts to clap before you can get back-in. Don’t worry, you still can catch the show via HDTVs. Overall I like this theatre in DTLA and I will probably be back here again for more shows.

This venture is clean, intimate and located in the heart of downtown. The venture has tables outside to wait until the show starts. There is a restaurant and bar outside to enjoy the weather. Service and people are great and the venture. Ensure the pre order in the beginning so you don’t have to wait doing intermission.

I attended The Sound of Music here and it was my first time at this theater(or theatre… whatever). First off, it is a nice, beautiful, and very modern theater. The staff were very friendly and courteous. I liked that it was not too big inside, it created a much more intimate atmosphere. It seemed like no matter where you sat, there was always a good view, so I really liked that as well. You can also take drinks and the snacks they offer into the theater during the performance(but don’t be ‘that guy’ like my boyfriend and open a plastic bag during the quiet times). They have a large parking lot below the theater that has plenty of parking spots for everyone. I also liked that it is right across the street from Grand Park and by the Walt Disney Concert Hall. All around, it’s a nice theater in a nice part of town.

Very easy to find theatre next to the Walt Disney hall. Parking is super cheap at @ 9.00 bucks flat rate. Came and saw the Sound of Music at a killer deal of $ 30.00. I’m usual sit in the orchestra but the balcony was refreshing for a change and had a great Ariel view of the musical. You were able to see the entire musical without having to look over anyone’s shoulders(all the seats are leveled so the person in front doesn’t block you which is great!) and you didn’t have to move side to side to see the actors when they were on the left or right side of the stage. The men’s bathroom is on one side of the building while the women’s is on the left. They really do take precaution on privacy in the restrooms… You have to go through 3 doors before actually seeing the bathroom. The only reason why it isn’t a 5 is because the people that come to the plays here are so of… Awkward, robotic, and some are actually quite rude. I.e. The family sitting next to my friend and I was hooting and hollering at random times during the play when it wasn’t necessary. Timing is was off for that! Also when we were leaving the structure, this old lady literally cussed us out because the traffic director let us go before her. The list just goes on…

I have been to Ahmanson twice, once for Les Miserables and most recently for Cinderella. I always forget how great the theater is. It’s clean and spacious and had a modern feel to it. The seats are great because they are in between the person in front of you. So even if someone taller than you sits in front you, it’s not too bad.(my main complaint for Pantages is that if someone tall sits in front of you, it sucks). We sat in center orchestra, towards the rear and seats were pretty nice. I have also sat in the mezzanine and I think I prefer the orchestra since it’s closer to the stage. One star less for parking because it gets pretty bad when you are trying to leave and there are also 100s of other cars there also trying to leave. If you are familiar with the area, there are some street parking on Grand and neighboring streets around Walt Disney concert hall. Overall, a great experience.

This review is for my most recent visit to the Ahmanson but I’ve been to this theatre a handful of times over the last twenty years. This theatre is where I fell in love with Theatre and saw my first Broadway musical. The theatre has easy parking, great acoustics, decent seats, friendly staff, good snacks(although pricey) and great shows. Cinderella was magical. What a production! So memorable and simply gorgeous to watch. I was so impressed with their on-stage costume changes(specifically Cinderella’s). Try and get there before show time as the courtyard is just lovely. On my recent visit, we sat in the Mezzanine, to the middle right of the stage. The seats were fantastic considering we were pretty high up. I’ve sat in every section and admittedly, the balcony is too far back for me and I have splurged for orchestra seats before. The boxes seem fun, but they are a little off to the side and not the best view(IMO). So I was very happy with our seats and the view.
TIP for the Ladies — If the restrooms are too crowded(which isn’t usually an issue), there are extra restrooms just outside of the theatre, on the left if you are exiting the building. This is great when it’s busy or prior to entering the building. Also, make sure to arrive early. Parking gets crazy when all three music center theatres have productions at the same time! Plus, the Music Center is a lovely spot for pre-theatre drinks or a meal. If you’ve never been, make sure to come early and experience it.

I have seen a few shows(Sweeney Todd, Dame Edna Farewell Tour and Seminar) at the Ahmanson Theater in the last 10 or so years. This venue is perfect for plays, musicals and so forth. The seating is excellent because you can still see the stage from wherever you sit. I have watched shows from both the orchestra and mezzanine section, which I was able to hear the audio just fine. As for parking, there is underground parking and I believe the price varies. I only recall paying $ 10 for one show and $ 9 just recently when I came here last Thursday evening for the Dame Edna Farewell Tour. You can pay for parking with credit card here in case you forget to bring cash by the way. The Music Center courtyard is just beautiful(many of which engaged couples come to take their engagement photos here). Make sure you check out Goldstar for discounted tickets for some of the best shows playing here in the future. Also real random, but you should check out these slow moving metal robotic structures on the 3rd floor(or just look up when you first enter or before you exit… no one ever seem to notice these small figures). They are definitely pretty cool.
