Very reasonable price for the amount of food you get. You definitely don’t go here for the fancy Chinese food. You go here for convenience. The guy at the hot food line was a nice fellow. They also sell lotto tickets inside. One stop shop.

You don’t go to Chinatown Express because you want some kind of California-Hong Kong-Fusion cuisine served on a silver platter in a rich atmosphere of aesthetic marvel and delight. You go here because the service is fast, the portions are generous, and the food is consistently good. Good place to soothe one’s low-blood-sugar rage or hangover. Two egg rolls for $ 1.50? SOLD.

I’ve eaten at many Chinese walk-ups, and this is one that takes the cake. The prices are super reasonable, and they feed you like family. I always judge a good walk-up based on whether or not eating the BBQ Pork will make me sick. I’ve never gotten sick off their food, and I’ve been a regular for the last 2 – 3 years. Well worth your money if you’re not looking to spend a lot.

I honestly don’t know where to start. I’ve seen these Chinatown Express(es), Hong Kong Expresses all over town, and I’ve avoided them like the plague. Panda Express was, well, okay for what it was(shiny, colorful«chinese» food that has no nutritional value aside from tricking me into thinking I’m full) but these crappy knock-offs seemed like one big red flag — how right I was. At a new office, a new co-worker wanted to take me to his favorite spot, on him. I happily obliged, until it became clear where we were going. As per his and the other co-workers recommendation, I got a two item combo with chow mein, sweet and sour chicken, and teriyaki chicken. What was most offensive about this food wasn’t even that it was bad, it was just BLAND. I could taste the oil, the possible msg, and all the other chemicals seeping into my body and making me less human, and more plastic — and for WHAT? A great candy flavored piece of processed chicken? A savory slurp of a shiny, tan noodle? For the flavorful equivalent of CARDBOARD. Give me something offensive, give me something I can really HATE — but don’t give me blandness. I so wanted to slam this place into the ground with the gloriously hateful 1 star review but nothing tasted awful — because nothing tasted like anything. Cleanliness was as expected and service, too, but make sure you pour a gracious amount of Sriracha on your dish or be prepared to consume empty calories that tastes like emptiness.

I have been driving by this place forever and always want to stop… however I never see anyone inside eating. Someone must eat here… right? I finnaly get up the nerve to go. the A on the window makes it easier to walk through the door. Very clean inside… lots to choose from. however they ran out of Egg Rolls(obviously someone else is eating here)…The food was decent. the rice was okay. the noodles pretty good. For the price… you can’t beat this place… very cheap and huge portions.

It’s pretty solid. I mean, it’s nothing to go out of your way for– but if you’re close and hungry for some sloppy chicken and noodles stuffed in a box for a great price– it’s worth your penny.

OK, let’s put things in perspective… Having lived in Hong-Kong and in San Francisco, my life has been blessed with excellent chinese food. Now, let’s keep in mind that Chinatown Express is NOT an authentic, nor fancy chinese restaurant. The food is fast and honest. And as long as you are discriminating about your selection(there are several items on the menu that I wouldn’t eat, but I won’t tell you which ones…) and pick the«right» selection, for $ 5, in Hollywood, that’s a steal ! Does anyone ever eat at a MacDonald’s and then later whine about how bad the beef was? If you want a steak, go to Morton’s or Ruth’s Steakhouse. But if you want value… Then don’t complain!!!

I’ve lived in Southern California most of my life. That should give me enough credibility when dealing with terrible chinese food. This was THEWORST chinese food I have ever had. 4 out of the 5 pieces of pepper chicken were inedible due to cartilage and bones. Please don’t make the same mistake I did, it ruined my July.
