Club 1984

This club has so much potential, like a pretty fat girl on a diet.

The parking situation is easy and the club is in a good spot, not too far from the West side or the East side. It’s on Friday so the day could not be better.
The club itself is not super glamorous, it’s a little run down and the place is desperate for ambiance. The management needs to add more video screens to hide some of the black walls, and maybe do something like let the first 25 people dressed in 80’s wear in for free to add a more fun mood to the place. The room itself is very generic but it’s open and there is some seating so that works. The dance floor is adequate and the vibe is chill. The hostess was super cute and nice, and they even have a coat check. The bar and drinks are just ok, the bar maiden kept looking me over until I pulled out my cash then the service got better.
Here is the thing… THE SOUND SUCKED AND THE MUSIC WAS WEAK. A lot of the music sounded slower than the original or the singing was way more shrill than normal. Weird. The dj kept playing this semi shoe gazing stuff and then would only play like 60% of each song. So even when he played a good song by the time you got to the dance floor the song was almost over. His transitions did not flow and the song choices were not enough to get the crowd really going. I get that this is a «New Wave, Alternative 80’s» club but I would like to suggest that the dj look into widening his repertoire, we all love Depeche Mode, Smiths and Joy Division but why not try a little Adam Ant, Love and Rockets, Bow Wow Wow, Flock of Seagulls, Clash, Sex Pistols, Romeo Void, Missing Persons, B 52’s, Blow Monkeys, Specials, Ministry, Husker Du, Sisters of Mercy, Fun Boy Three, Go Go’s, REM, Culture Club, Bowie, Pixies, Jean Loves Jezebel, Ramones, Oingo Boingo, English Beat, Police, Joan Jett, Big Country, Howard Jones, Talking Heads, Haircut 100, Berlin… even that old rat sack Madonna. The dj could even throw in a little late 70’s glam and a little 80’s Rock en tu idioma to the mix and and it would work.
Would I go back to this place… yeah, maybe.

Never coming here again. Hostess Claudia is a major bitch. My friends and I were literally 1 minute late for the $ 5 pass deal they do. She would not let us in for that price yet let this couple in for the deal because «they were regulars» and we all got there at the exact same time! We were so out of breath from running, came from sylmar, only had $ 15 with us which would have been perfect if we were let in for the $ 5 discounted price. Its very unfortunate cause the place has potential but she ruined everything. Until there is a different hostess who is actually nice. We’re never going back to this place ever again!!! Blue Monday in Hollywood is fantastic and the place to go for 80’s and nice people!
