We stopped here for lunch after a hike at Griffith Park and visit to the observatory, and it was just what we needed. Excellent food and fantastic service. The fresh lemonade was delicious, and so was the community grilled cheese sandwich. This is where I will be going every time we visit Griffith.

What an adorable place! We had a great experience here and the service was awesome! Jennifer our server was so friendly– you felt like you were at home. We came here for lunch and my husband and I ordered the fish and chips and cast iron fried chicken sandwich. Portions were just right and both meals were cooked to perfection. You didn’t feel overly full– it was just right. Jennifer was so sweet that she treated us to a slice of pistachio chocolate cake after our meals, which was delicious! I keep thinking about that cake. We are definitely coming back here for dinner. Great service, great ambiance and food! Such a great experience!

Unbelievable menu and incredible food. Tried this place today after seeing good reviews on Unilocal and was not disappointed. I could not decide what to order! The menu had so many delicious options. The food was amazing.

Wow, this place is just everything. The food is delicious and the owner is so lovely that it made me overlook the communal tables! It’s like eating in someone’s dining room. The fried chicken is as good as Thomas Keller’s, and the pistachio cake is amazing, I even discovered a hidden layer of chocolate the next day when I was eating breakfast cake. The chocolate mousse is also delicious. My sister is already dying to go back. We never pick the same restaurant twice but we’re going to make an exception for Community because it’s so good. Parking can be kinda tough, just an FYI.

Well crafted, at a stately pace. Stopped by for a quick lunch while I the neighborhood and ordered the whitefish sandwich with a side of seasoned fries. Both were excellent– the whitefish had a nice spicy kick, the fixings offered just the right crunchy and tangy contrast, and the fries were piping hot and delicious. I only wish I could have stayed longer. Community is a spot meant to be enjoyed slowly I think, not in the rush that I was in. I wish I could have lingered longer over my sandwich, but I ended up wolfing it down like a savage, quickly signing the credit card slip, and bursting through the door back into the sunlight. I shall come back and enjoy, I swear!

I’m beginning to think that this is the best food in Los Angeles. The hours are as posted so don’t be disappointed if you show up and its closed. I’ve been going here for years now for take-out and couldn’t be more pleased with the food. I have gotten into a few arguments with a couple of the staff members over the phone but the main lady is really sweet. Definitely give this place a try for take-out if you live close by.

1) The dining room is adorable. 2) The food is delicious, carefully made, and perfectly portioned for you to be full but not feel ill.(Lamb! Cast-iron chicken! Philly cheesesteak! Cajun fish!) 3) Izzy the server is my homegirl. Stop reading this and go get a sandwich. My tiny mother-in-law downed her whole plate here, and I’m pretty sure that’s the first time I’ve ever seen that happen. This place is the apogee of the«neighborhood sandwich shop.» I lived in Los Feliz for three(3!!!) years before eating here, and THOSEAREYEARS I WILLNEVERGETBACK. Don’t make the same mistake.

Stumbled upon this place without set expectations and was more than satisfied with the quality and simplicity of the food. Had the cast iron crispy chicken as a salad vs sandwich. Love this option for most menu items. Only setback; with a tag line of connect commune community — no wifi is a branding miss and community seating while good in intention could place you pass the salt distance from a bitter H’wood writer on a rant. To which I promise the engaging food will distract you. Trust me.

I got take-out from Community and was very satisfied. Try to find a spot on the side street to the right of the place, but there’s also metered parking everywhere. The place is very tiny — only a few tables — but the servers are very friendly. I had a seat on the bench when you walk in, and they brought me water while I was waiting for my food. I got the chicken sandwich with a side of mixed greens and was SO impressed. Really good chicken sandwiches are hard to come by, so believe me when I tell you that this is legit. I got mine with avocado because why not. I was looking on other people’s plates, and the fries looked amazing, so I’ll definitely be getting those next time. Overall, very good place to stop in to grab a bite, but I’d suggest staying there for your meal instead of expecting a quick takeout, because it does take a little while.

I’m not sure why I hadn’t heard of this place until I was sniffing around for sandwiches in the area, but I’m glad I found it! The fried chicken sandwich seems to be the item here, and it’s indeed good, but it didn’t cause me to roll my eyes into the back of my head with delight the way that absolutely delectable McDowell sandwich did. Wow… Also, ignore whoever says to get the spicy potato wedges. They’re merely potatoes with chili paste glooped on top. Maybe ok at a dive bar or with a burrito or something, but not for a place like this.

You must try this gem in Los Feliz. They are open for lunch… but only for dinner on Fri-Sun. The other reviews are accurate about the fried chicken, fish etc… but what they do with vegetables is sensational. You can taste the selection & dedication. Try the Rainbow Salad. Michael Mina couldn’t do better. This is fine classy food in a down home setting. They have«Meat &3» Specials where you can choose one of the day’s meats and 3 sides. Very Southern. Staff is incredible attentive. Very small place with Community Tables… BYOB…they don’t have sell wine or cocktails… Makes it an even better deal !!!

The food was good. No like REALLY good. Too good. I was trying to figure this place out. It appears to be one of those attempts at bringing what is in Portland to LA. It is that very specific aesthetic we are all very familiar with. This isn’t exactly a bad thing. It is just ya know Fuckin like a thing ya know? Now most people who know me also know that I’m uhm… Ok so… The woman working here asked me my name, and once I told her, she kept ending every sentence with my name. This is because she found out I live nearby.(Boobala, if you are reading this, I want you to know you are beautiful and very kind but this is just me. I’m like a freagin’ Tim Burton recluse around here! I don’t want to be apart of the community. You don’t wanna talk to this mug! Saying my name out loud for the whole restaurant to hear is embarrassing, baby babes.) I began to notice the tables were all so close that they were touching. The man next to me was smacking his food in the grossest way, but then I realized I was doing the same thing! It is the design of the food! I realized also at this moment that this is some attempt to createjn a new cult and recruit people into the«community» especially those of Los Feliz such as myself. — Annonymous

Likely to walk on by unless you’re looking for it, but make it your mission to go to Community. Low key yet great detail from the outside in. Perfect for before or after a trip to the Observatory, or pre-show at the Greek. Different weekend has some specials, so keep those in mind, too. I read about the Fish n Chips,(Friday only), but we came on a Sunday. The stars are aligned for Fried Chicken, with ample and delicious sides(mac & cheese /sautéed garlic-spinach /community cornbread). If you are at all into that, you must get that. Half the table got that, in some cases, had leftovers. Lots of good, Southern food. I had the OMG Lamb sandwich, and loved it.(Herb marinated boneless leg of lamb /cucumber-tomato salad /dressed greens /jalapeño yogurt with choice of side). I went for the baby broccoli and thought it was great, too. Dessert was a huge red velvet cake that was easy to split between four people. OK, some of the piggies may have wanted more, but it was plenty and plenty good. Forks were too fast to take any pix of that! Oh, the lemonade got a thumbs up, too, as did the whitefish entrée. Gracious, friendly server provided all you’d hope for. French Press coffee, mmm. No booze, but I think you can BYO. Can’t wait to spend more time with the Community.

Tiny restaurant, I think there was three tables total, so during busy times be prepared to get to know your neighbors if you’re dining in. The friendly staff were quick and attentive. I had the Reuben Lite… and those mushrooms have me drooling just thinking about them. The presentation was very simple and fun with our plates being baker trays and items wrapped in butcher paper. Next time I want to try the desserts!

***The rustic Community offers seemingly simple lunch entrees and sandwiches, but the food here features quality ingredients with a made-from-scratch approach*** From the outside, Community feels like an ordinary restaurant to stop in for a quick bite, but the food is made-from-scratch and quite upscale. A lot of their sandwiches sounded good and they looked very tasty too. For Saturday and Sunday lunch, Community has a collection of sandwiches and lunch-style offerings that are served on metal cafeteria lunch trays. Their weekend lunch also provides guests the opportunity to try their southern fried chicken(only available on Saturdays and Sundays). The southern fried chicken was a complete meal with macaroni and cheese, garlic spinach and cornbread. I really liked the cornbread, which was moist, crumby and lightly sweet. The macaroni and cheese was not the best macaroni and cheese I have had, but it had a richness and a creaminess that was very satisfying. The cheese flavor was also good as was the pasta. I did not care for the garlic spinach; it was a tad bitter; it could have used more salt. Their southern fried chicken came with three pieces(though the menu indicated the meal came with two pieces). There was part of a boneless breast as well as a leg and a wing. The leg was the best. The moist dark meat was really good and the very crispy and crunchy batter was great. It had a decent amount of spiciness to it too. The fried chicken was also thankfully not that greasy. The chicken wing was tasty as well and the meat had a fair amount of moistness. The boneless chicken breast featured that great southern fried crunchy crust, but the meat(while tender) was a tad dry. Hot sauce is available upon request and it is a vinegary, pickled hot sauce that adds a lot of flavor though a little definitely goes a long way. Service was very friendly and quick. Prices are not too bad. A lot of the menu is in the $ 15 range, which might seem high, but it feels like a lot of the portions are more than generous enough for a filling but not too heavy lunch. Community has a small dining room. It is quite rustic though not rustic but really contemporary like so many hipster restaurants in Los Angeles. This dining room is very rustic with a fairly barren inside and a kitchen that feels more like something you would see at a hole in the wall restaurant than a restaurant showcasing quality ingredients and attention to detail on food presentations. I enjoyed the fried chicken at Community and would definitely come back and give some of their other lunch entrees a shot. Alcove is near here and draws bigger crowds, but if you are in Los Feliz on a weekend and looking to try something new, I think Community is worth a visit. Metered street parking is available, but it can be difficult finding an open space.

This wasn’t our first choice after a nice hike to the Hollywood sign. It was late, we were hungry. We first ended up at Little Dom’s about 1 ½ blocks away. Before we even got our menus, we decided to get out of there. Wait for my short(and most likely 1 star) review on them. So I pulled out my trusted Unilocal app and found Community. Over 145 reviews and 4 ½ stars, it’s a good sign. Upon entering, we were warmly greeted by the owner, but was informed they are closing soon to prepare for the dinner settings. I noticed some seating outside so I decided to place an order & take the food out to enjoy the sun. We ordered a Cajun Whitefish sandwich @ $ 13.00 and an Egg Salad Nicoise sandwich @ $ 14. Both came w/sides so we chose seasoned fries and a potato salad. Also ordered a house-made lemonade @ $ 3.50 The Cajun Whitefish was lightly seasoned & tasted fresh, served on a french roll. It was light, yet satisfying and very good. The Nicoise was good, but nothing special. Tasted just like a typical salad placed on sourdough cracked wheat. Both sides were good, but the potato salad definitely tastes home-made. Besides the food, the level of service from the owner and the man who served us were top notch. Very personable and friendly. Tough they were closing, we didn’t feel rushed nor at any point did they appear annoyed, which can easily happen at other restaurants. The interior is small, cozy and feels as if I entered a friend’s eat-in kitchen. There were old cabinets holding food related books, 3 communal tables and a warm, comfortable theme. While we ate outside net to another frendly couple, the owner came out and offered us each a thin slice of cake(piña colada?) which was delicious. I’m not sure if she felt bad we all had to sit outside while they prepared for dinner or the guy knew the chef of Community. Either way, it was a nice touch. Being accustomed to the prices of the SGV(San Gabriel Valley for you non-SoCal folks) Community’s is about 50% higher. All said & done, 2 sandwiches and a drink went over $ 33.00. BUt the experience was all worth it: Cozy place, great staff, tasty foods and a unique ambiance … if we’re ever in the neighborhood, we just might come back here again to try other items. notes: Their hours are: Mon. closed Tues — Thurs: 11:30 to 4:30 Friday: 11:30 to 9:00 Weekends: noon to 9:00 But they close from 4:30 to 5:30 to set up for dinner Street metered parking is available but check for hour limits. Some are one hour, some are 2. Or, go on side streets & score free parking and walk an additional minute. Restrooms are around the building, through a metal gate accessed by the parking lot. Well, just ask them … they can explain better.

The small restaurant serves great sandwiches, salads, simple pasta salad and to top it off the absolute best desserts. You must try their red velvet cake! The place is clean and waitress is very kind and attentive. Seems she knows most of her customers by their first name. Restaurant serves simple but great tasting food and ambiance.

FOOD ===== OMGLAMBSANDWICH House roasted herb marinated lamb, cucumber-tomato salad dressed greens & jalapeño yogurt, on ciabatta was very good. Loved the quality of the lamb and the crunch of the ciabatta. RATING: 5⁄5 SPICYPOTATOWEDGES Wow, that sauce though. My Asian mama would have loved that sauce. RATING: 5⁄5 DESSERT ======== BANANACREAMPIE Great crust and filling and not too sweet. RATING: 4⁄5 SERVICE ======= They take pride with their customer service and it shows. Friendly as baby panda bears. RATING: 5⁄5 SIDENOTE ========= Tempted to order the weekend fried chicken, but read some of the negative Unilocal reviews and decided against it. Maybe next time. Yeah it’s not a cheap lunch, but hey, you’re hungry. HIGHLYRECOMMEND for post-hike dates and groups of 4.

Like many traffic-phobic Angelenos, I have a bad habit of staying in my own hood too much, missing out on the treats and treasures of other neighborhoods. I recently tried to remedy that by spending a day in Los Feliz. First stop, thanks the many raves on Unilocal, was Community for their popular OMG lamb sandwich. I’m not usually a lamb person so I would never think to order this if not for the long list of Unilocalers going absolutely gaga over this sandwich. And guess what: THEYWERERIGHT. It’s seriously one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had, from the bread to the lamb to the drippy sauce. The potato salad on the side was just OK, but who cares when the main event is THIS good!?! The sandwich was pretty pricey(maybe around $ 14? They don’t list prices on their website so I can’t remember exactly), but it was worth the splurge. To top it off, the staff was friendly, there were a couple seats outside so we could be with our dog, and they use cool vintage looking trays and silverware. And props to the waiter for being so on point with filling our water glasses on a hot day(and even insisting on giving our pooch his own bowl). I can’t recommend this place enough if you’re in the area!
