One of my favorite wine bars. It doesn’t feel like a dive bar. It’s cozy inside. Tables, bar, benches. Excellent service and the wine is always great, though it seems like a splurge to spend $ 13 on a glass of red. I always come back and bring friends. Nice location and neighborhood.

I love this place. If you’re willing to spend more than $ 10 on a glass of wine, you should try this place out. If that’s not for you, they’ve got seem beers on tap also that are pretty average priced. It can get pretty filled up in here considering it is kind of a small space, so I wouldn’t try coming here with a group. If you’re looking for a nice little date spot or to catch up with some friends, I’d recommend this place. Talk to the bartender and have him recommend something for you. He’ll let you sample a few wines before deciding what you want. Just make sure you ask about the prices, otherwise they won’t tell you.

I was here earlier this week with some friends. I really like the concept of this bar… there are no menus available, you tell the bartenders(or wine experts) what kind of wine you like and they bring samples for you until you find a wine that you want to order a glass of. When you come inside Covell, there’s a sign in the middle of the bar that says«Order Here». However, in spite of this big sign I walked all the way around the bar and approached a woman and asked her where to order. She graciously directed me to the middle of the bar. Once I got to the right place to order, I began to pester the wine expert. I’m not a big wine drinker. There are only three types of wine that I’m familiar with: moscato, pinot grigio and riesling. I wanted to get out of my comfort zone and try to find a wine other than the three I always get. The poor man brought me numerous different types of wine before I finally gave up and just ordered moscato. After I finished my moscato, I went back to the bar again. This time I tried 2 different types of wines before I again settled on a wine I was familiar with(riesling). Alas. The wine expert who was bringing me samples was great though. He was good-humored, friendly and helpful. Covell is pretty laidback. There are tables and places to sit at the bar inside and there’s also a small amount of seating outside in front. It was pretty crowded the night I was there so we were standing in the outside area. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to try any of the food but I’ll probably try some when I come back. Covell is a little pricey… I paid about $ 30 for 2 glasses of wine.

This place is a lot of fun. There’s a constant bustle and the wine expert made some good recommendations. Not an extensive menu but in this case that’s a good thing. Everywhere isn’t Cheesecake Factory.

My friends love this place. I think this is the kind of place that you become a regular at and end up loving. Parking is fairly easy, there is plenty on the street, however most of it’s metered, so watch your minutes! There is a fair amount of bar space and a small lounge area — probably not the best place for a huge group. It’s definitely low key, you tell the bartender what you like in a wine, and he finds a OTP for you. I had a couple bites of the mac and cheese which was amazing.

I was here for a private party in the room hidden behind the bookshelf. You walk through the main bar area, and there’s a bookshelf on the left. Unfortunately there’s also a door at the front that guests can just walk through, so they didn’t get the surprise effect from the bookshelf! I would recommend reserving the side room for your private party. They had set out a table with cheese and charcuterie boards. We had our own bar and bartender, and there was beer on tap coming out of the wall. The room is pretty nice and has dim lighting so you can have an intimate private party with plenty of seating. I think you can play your own music? Great service also.

They really know their wine here. Very gracious with tasting, recommendations and genuine friendly, helpful service. They have small plate food as well that pairs with the wine. This is a great place to meet friends for conversation.

The bartenders at Covell are the best. They ask you a few questions to see what you’re feeling and bring you countless samples until they find you something you like. Also, once you’ve decided on what to drink, they help you choose a cheese platter that will compliment your wine. As for other appetizers the spicy mac and cheese is actually just meh, I’d just stick to a cheese platter. Finally, the atmosphere is great and it makes for a perfect date spot. It’s pretty much always busy though, so beware.

great drinks, and we loved the little speak easy hidden room next door… it was perfect for the bday party we attended. The wine was excellent too!

Friend took me here for drinks after dinner. Astonished to find this place in the middle of nowhere. Located in a pretty quiet area overall but inside was crowded with people. They had some lounge chairs and lots of barstools. Bartenders are very nice and are pretty speedy with your drinks. I like that they pay attention and it’s not hard to get their attention. They have great beer and wine selections as well. They let you sample the wine before they pour you a glass to ensure you like it. Ambiance is very lively and fun. Would definitely come back again.

Best wine bar in LA Matthew Kaner is an amazing wine director and a great guy– I wish he was there more. They have great wine and beer. Great atmosphere. Great crowds. Trust the bartenders. Tell them what kinda wine you like(ex: r d, old world, medium bodied, earthy) and they’ll bring you a few options to taste. All of the options will be good. The service is always great. Single straight men take note: I’ve never seen a bar that has so many women in it that seem to be single/sans partners. I’ve been here on more than one occasion and it was, like, 12 women in row at the bar. I’m taken so it doesn’t matter to me, but I always think«This bar is a single guy’s dream». It ain’t bad for those of us who are hitched up, either. My lady and I often stop by for a night cap on our way home from a night out. The private room next door is also a great venue to rent out for private parties.

Not sure what it was but there seems to be a very busy time when it starts to get crowded. There isn’t a wait but more of a first come first serve and helping yourself to a seat. You order at the bar which is along one side of the room and the space for seating isn’t as bad once you sit down. Great place to niggle with friends and grab a wine. The bartenders are friendly and are willing to have a conversation with you if they’re not busy. All in all its a nice hole in the wall.

Cute little wine bar in Los Feliz. Bartenders seem to have great camaraderie and look like they actually enjoy working here. I wanted a glass of rose and the bartender let me try both their options. We also had the mac and cheese and tortillas(Spanish tapas-style tortillas — fluffy eggs with potato) and they were delicious and served with a nice side salad. It’s a very popular spot — seemed to be full of girls having a GNO and couples on dates.

croque monsieur was really good! they don’t have a wine menu so everything was recommended by the bartender, which wasn’t an issue for us. he let us tried a few and since the one we picked ran out so he didn’t charge us to finish the rest from the bottle(about 2 glasses of wine). super friendly and cool guy :) the place is a bit small, so i’d recommend making a reservation if possible(we didn’t, but luckily we were able to get a seat at the bar!) it’s a great place for dates, not too noisy and romantic!

On a recent trip to LA to visit a friend, I was brought here. Relaxed, unpretentious, dark and moody. Loved it. Our bartender was very knowledgeable with wine and suggested an outstanding Malbec. Served with a charcuterie board that had the BEST black truffle salami. Truffled salami? Yes, it’s true. We were able to relax, there wasn’t any huge upsell from the bartender and we got to sit and chat for hours uninterrupted. Loved it.

Cozy ambiance, good food, deep wine collection, laid back bartenders. If you want to feel local Hollywood this is the spot. Ben the bartender was really cool. Down to Earth and likable.

Been hearing a lot about this place and finally decided to give it a try. Excellent all around, really felt like a local spot with tasteful selection of sips and bites. I was a little hesitant about a lack of a menu for their wine, but the Malbec(High Note) was excellent and reasonably priced. We also shared a charcuterie plate which I don’t normally go for but I’d highly recommend. The space is dark and done right; you’ll appreciate the ‘secret’ doors in the back disguised as bookshelves or walls — not sure where they lead, although I’m guessing to the charming boutique hotel situated above. Overall solid spot for a chat and sip.

What a classy little watering hole! We stumbled in here after a graduation party last Friday night. I didn’t get any food but am regretting that decision a bit after looking at the scrumptious-looking food pics below. Had a glass of Pinot Grigio from Croatia, absolutely loved it. The bartender gave me a few samples to try. She was very friendly, unjaded, and not the least bit pretentious about wine. All in all, was a quick but great experience and I would definitely look forward to coming back here to get a bite to eat sometime.

The bartenders, or should I say, wine connesieurs, are simply amazing. They are knowledgable and friendly. This particular evening we were interested in trying a Pinot Noir… the next thing you know we got to sample 5 different wines prior to purchasing. They are not pushy, they just want to please your palate. We enjoyed our wine in a lovely setting. The bar was buzzing with a younger crowd, but I certainly didn’t feel out of place. The setting is intimate with banquettes to sit at by candle light as well as some high top tables. They offer lovely appetizers to compliment your wine selection. Let them know what you are drinking and they willl pair it with a nice cheese platter. Will return again and again. Neighborhood discount 10%. Not bad at all.

Love, Love, Love, Covell! THEAMBIANCE: Very small but very awesome. Dimly lit, candles, decorated walls, small tables, and a small lounge area bring Covell to life on a beautiful evening. Covell is the place to go to when you want to have a nice glass of wine, a nice cold beer, and a cheese plate. Yes, those are all and-s because you will want to try all three. THEFOODANDDRINK: Covell has a spectacular 5 or 3 cheese platter(go with 5, you will not regret it). The cheese is DELICIOUS and the platter comes with a small spoon of honey, some fresh thin-cut apple slices, pistachios, membrillo or guava, a square of butter, and bread slices. A++ Covell also has a great drink menu. You can find the beers on the left of the bar written in chalk and the wine list hangs above the bar on the right side. Stone Coffee Milk Stout … mmm. That’s what I had this past Saturday. THETIPS: On a Saturday night Covell gets pretty crowded but I have yet to experience an uncomfortable atmosphere. You can still walk around just fine. Covell is pretty busy on weekday evenings as well. Both Covell and their valet stand are pretty obscure, especially at night. What I recently realized is that if your eyes follow the little street that borders Goodwill after passing Umami Burger(Rodney Dr.), perpendicular to Hollywood Blvd., they will meet Covell. I always find parking on Hollywood Blvd., so I do not know how much they charge or where they take your car.
