David at Design Modern is the only furniture guru will you ever need. I bought my first item from him about 10 years ago. I was broke, clueless, and couldn’t find what I wanted at IKEA, and so stumbled into his store on the recommendation of a friend. I have never bought any furniture from anyone else since. He has the greatest selection, the greatest taste, and the biggest heart. He’ll take the time to understand what your style is and what you need. If he doesn’t have it, he’ll find it. And you won’t find better prices for authentic mid-​century modern stuff in L.A. Check him out for yourself. I ain’t lying.

This spot is an adventure. You’re probably going to be overwhelmed with all the stuff at first, but ask for help! They’ll hook you up with what you need. The guy that runs the place is the friendliest ever and combs the area for the most killer, old modern stuff (so you don’t have to… leaves more time for haiku and poker).

Design Modern is hands-​down the best bang for your buck if you want tastefully hand-​picked designer furniture (from many eras) at used-​furniture prices. My roommate and I completely redecorated our living room in mid-​century modern (perhaps the specialty of Design Modern), almost completely from this lovely, hidden-​away spot.
Don’t let the nondescript building fool you, everything in Design Modern is top quality, and you’ll get all the help you need picking and coordinating your furniture. Buy a bunch, and they just might deliver it for you…
