Unfriendly and talentless bartenders… Asked for cognac, was told they don’t have any… 15 minutes later I notice a bottle of cognac on their shelf. The old fashioned we ordered tasted like a sugary candy drink. overall, the experience made me miss the Mad Dog tavern. I won’t be coming back

I love this place! I come all the time to watch the games and they never fail to have a team playing that you normally wouldn’t expect to be played at a bar in LA weather it’s NBA, NFL, MLB or NHL. The food is amazing and they know how to pour a drink! The happy hour is a great deal! Buy one drink get the other for $.25. Monday– Friday! Also I would love to commend Sunny she works so hard and always has great recommendations for appetizers and meals! Great asset to this establishment!

LOVETHISPLACE. To me it’s all about atmosphere, service, & food, & Downtown Johnny’s has gotten that down to a science. The atmosphere has edison bulbs for lighting, so you don’t feel like you’re sitting under fluorescent lights, which I believe no one likes. It has great big booths that are super comfy & a nice patio for those beautiful days. It’s always super clean, which is important, & a relaxing place to unwind after a long day. The service is hands down some of the best service I have ever gotten. I’ve seen some people say that it wasn’t great on here, so maybe I just keep going in on the days they don’t? I am always approached with a smile, & they even ask me for my name & then continuously refer to me by my name until I have left. It makes it so personable. The waitresses here have such a dry wit that bantering with them has become one of my favorite things to do. The management is on point as well. If I have a problem, not only is it resolved, but a manager, & sometimes even the GM, will take time out of their busy night to come by to talk to me & make sure everything is great. Most places won’t do that unless you ask for a GM. Carrie, who is the GM, is such a joy to talk to & she always remembers me when I come in, even after just the first visit initially. Roya, who I learned is the other manager, is right on the heel of Carrie’s amazing customer service. They both make an effort to make sure that you’re having a good time & your money is spent wisely there by showing that they care. If my waitress is too busy, the managers will do what I would normally ask my waitress to do. I love it. The hostess, Alex, is always amazing as well. Most hostesses will stand at their little corner & not really say a word, but she will come up to my table & talk to me in between seating people. I love that the customer service here has so much effort behind it. The food is SO good. Yes, it’s «bar food», but I wouldn’t exactly label it that. They have Tuna Tartar, Mussels, Truffled Mac & Cheese with bacon, and their pizzas are so freaking good. I personally love their sliders & burgers because they’re so juicy and full of flavor. I have noticed the menu changes every so often, but I always find it’s because they’re replacing something with something better. My food never takes too long, & even if it does, I would still wait for it. I am always told if the kitchen is backed up & attended to in the mean time, which makes me feel like they haven’t forgotten about me. UFC nights can be nuts here, but with free admission & all you have to do is buy a minimum of something like 2 drinks & food, I mean come on. Most places will charge at the door to even get in, THEN you have to spend more money to get a table & stay there. I have seen it pack up quick, which is why I try to reserve a table ahead of time, but what else would you expect? I love this place. Definitely one of my regular haunts from now on.

Fun spot for Happy Hour. Great Patio and good Hour Hour hours(4 – 7:30 pm) 7 days a week. Menu is not super inventive or special(wings, nachos — regular bar food), and drinks were ok but lacked balance… either they were too sweet or too spicy and lacked the flavors advertized in the description. Overall an ok choice for an afterwork drink or a quick date. Crowd is a mix of all ages. Service was friendly and prompt.

Descent happy hour. Until 7? Well $ 5? Specialty drink $ 6? Mini burgers are alright. Chill ambiance before dark. Tv’s… Nice servers

I’m a local and I know this place since it was madbull tavern. I like what they did with the remodeling. Having said that, this place leaves a lot to be desired. Positives– open air patio, very friendly staff. Negative– terrible food! Everything we ordered was tasteless.(Lacks of culinary expertise) Our initial order was canceled after a 20min wait due to an oven not working. I get it, shit happens, but if this was followed by a good meal, it would have been acceptable. Note to management: give guests a good reason to come back. Your competition is killing you. Hopping for improvements ;)

Rising from the ashes of Murph’s comes Downtown Johnny’s. The name doesn’t offer much in the way of what kind of place you can expect to find. The happy hour menu is subpar. Offering a very limited selection of beers for $ 4. I would rather see all beers $ 1 off, than $ 4 beers that I don’t want. Ambiance is ok, but fit’s Murph’s a bit more, as it was made to look like an old gas station. I’m sad that it did not last. Perhaps Downtown Johnny’s is still cutting it’s teeth on the bar scene, but I likely won’t come back. Sad. Sherman Oaks is really on the grow, and there is a real opportunity here.

Really wanted to like this place! The food is OK. Happy hour menu is OK. It’s the service! Please work on your service! The waiter never checked on us and I asked 3 people for water refill and none did. The food also took very very long! I really want to like this place!!!

Sorry, but this place sucks. The service is always SOSLOW. Our waitress gave away our starter to another table because«she was on 3 hours of sleep.» When the other table realized they were eating our starter they said: «oh we’re sorry, we thought we were given this because our food was taking forever.» There ya have it. My burger which I asked for to be medium-rare was cooked to shit. The food overall isn’t worth how much they charge. Only thing decent is the beer selection. Go elsewhere. EDIT: Also, a lot of these overly positive, über informative reviews seem like paid-for-reviews…bummer.

Okay, so they have changed the name of this bar a million times already. it’s the same location and owners as Mad Bull’s and Murph’s. It’s honestly all the same. It looks almost exactly the same inside as Murph’s did. Service is great, Gregory is an awesome bartender. The mac and cheese is sooo good, comes with bread crumbs on top !(my favorite kind). They also have happy hour 5 – 7 pm :) Ambiance is cool, they have about 8TV’s

Really enjoyed our time here at Downtown. Our service from Megan M. was well above average and the happy hour was great. We had multiple drinks and the Pale Rider was my favorite. We also had several orders of the meatballs, tacos, sliders and deviled eggs from the happy hour menu. All the food was very good except for the deviled eggs. There was only 3 on the plate and I didn’t care for the flavor. But the meatballs don’t have breaking in hem and the sliders were juicy and flavorful. Good job. Our check was $ 113& change which wasn’t bad considering how much we ate and drank. I love the fact that the happy hour goes until 7:30pm instead of just 7 Again, our service really put me over the top with Megan M taking amazing care of us. Apparently more than just a pretty face. Will return. 4.5 solid stars rounded up to 5

I was a fan of Murph’s and sad to hear about them closing. I had high hopes for Downtown Johnny’s and just wasn’t feeling it. I feel like it’s just very much a sports bar, but they don’t want to call it that. We went on a Saturday night, which I know is probably their busiest night, but our service was sooooooo unbelievably slow, our food wasn’t great, and we had to remind our waiter of some food that was never brought to us. The deviled eggs were way too fishy, the poutine was cold and not proportioned well and their tacos were pretty good, but just cold by the time we got it. The drinks weren’t bad, but they standard and I had no complaints. I had their Moscow Mule and Pale Rider. The food was very standard also. I just didn’t find anything great about this place that would draw me back to it. This really is a great location, so I hope they get their kinks worked out since I know they just opened.

Came on a Friday night to take a load off and enjoy some food, I was not disappointed. I have been coming here since it was madbulls so I had my expectations. We ordered the 4 flight sampler, Mac and cheese and the ahi tuna. It was all great and had no complaints on the food. Service was a little slow but I expect it coming from a place that just opened a week or two ago. All In all I was satisfied with my experience and had an amazing night I will be recommending it to my friends looking for a chill spot.

I went to Downtown Johnny’s for the first time last week and I was very impressed with the décor, service, drinks and food. I have been back a couple of times since and have decided that this spot will be my new hangout to watch all my favorite sporting events in. The place is very spacious with a lot of TVs and has attracted a good looking crowd of people. I particularly loved their Fruli Strawberry Belgian White Ale Beer among some of their specialty drinks. Johnny’s also has a wide selection of IPA beers for all the beer snobs out there who enjoy variety, lol ;) They have a good selection of food too. I have to say though that once I took a bite of their tongue and cheek tacos, OMG! I fell in love, now those were delicious! I also enjoyed their mac n’ cheese, burgers and sandwiches. Kudos to the staff too, they are very friendly.

I dropped by with a former coworker to grab a drink and watch some basketball, and had a very delightful experience. The staff was extremely attentive and visited our table on a regular basis to check up on us. — and the sliders and fries were pretty tasty. — and a good number of TV’s to watch the game. a rather positive experience.

I hate to write such a negative review but I’m not sure how else I can express my disappointment with this place. In a time when Sherman Oaks seems to be going through some sort of foodie revolution, I had high hopes when I saw that the Murph’s space was yet again being revamped. Perhaps when this place dies for the third time, it will be reincarnated as a place with an inventive and flavorful menu. However, I seriously doubt that based on the current state of the menu. Is it the owners/management? What’s with you guys? Come up with a concept, develop it, hire the right staff(chef) and voilà! The new name is dumb. It doesn’t mean anything and I can’t figure out how it connects to the concept. And then there’s that: what exactly is this place? It’s like a dark dingy bar and a diner made a baby. Apparently the baby’s name is Johnny. I would go through the menu and what we ordered but honestly, it was all so bad that it’s not worth mentioning. We even sent something back because it was completely inedible. Which is a huge statement because pretty much everything tasted bad but the mussels… avoid at all costs. And I am so opposed to sending food back. It was a member of our party who sent it back but I couldn’t blame her. This was just an offensive attempt at mussels. They get one extra star for the server. She was friendly and she did the best she could. It’s time to give up Mad Bulls/Murphs/Downtown Johnny’s owner. This place is clearly cursed.

Pretty good. Went to the soft opening so the menu wasn’t too big yet. Had the meatballs, mac n cheese, chips, olives and chopped salad. Can’t complain. Tasty. Friendly staff. Very helpful. Great service. I will be back. I like the change although I really liked it when it was Mad Bulls. Miss the mason jar drinks. Those were yum!

So far so good. I went the second day they opened. They have a really great daytime happy hour that’s 7 days a week! It’s from 4 – 7:30. Great hours! They also do a late night happy hour M-W 10-Midnight. Off their HH menu I ordered deviled eggs(you get 3 halves for $ 5). They also offered their Sideline and Lady Sage cocktails which I had one of each at $ 7 each(normally $ 11). They were pretty tasty! They also offer 4 different draft beers on HH, 16 oz. for only $ 4. Not bad! They have a regular menu as well and I ordered their Beer Nuts which is chili and lime flavored cashews. They are very tasty and it comes in a really hefty portion! Great value for only $ 4. This place upgraded to 10 tv’s now, 2 of them large pull-down screens. The customer atmosphere is still great and the staff is cool too. Moses, who’s always been great, still works their and I met a new bartender Michelle who was friendly and the new GM Nick. It appears half the staff or so are new but everyone was friendly and welcoming. Great place to go if you want good food, very friendly staff and a great crowd/atmosphere.

I don’t even know where to begin ! These people know that meaning of customer service !! Everyone here is extremely polite, hip, and with a great sense of humor. We came in earlier tonight for a quick drink and something to snack on and we had their amazing Downtown Burger and fries. A few yummy beers and cocktails. everything was absolutely succulent ! I absolutely enjoyed the vibe and the set up . The highlight of my night was when my DumbAss lost my Invisaligne Trays. The amazing staff and management especially Richard did everything they could to dig though he trash for my Trays. At that point I was extremely humbled and embarrassed by how great they treated me and by how hard they tired to help me out in finding my Invisaligne trays. I’m Extremely satisfied with this place !!! Anyway … I totally recommend everyone to come check this place out. You won’t be disappointed !!
