Good prices, but holy hell, I got some bad food poisoning here. Kinda doesn’t make me want to go back.

I had crazy cravings for carne asada nachos on Labor Day and apparently, most of the taco trucks have this day off as well! So with tears forming in my eyes after 4 missing trucks, I resorted to El Jalapeño. Ordered the carne asada nachos and it came out to an even $ 6. Upon receiving the plastic bag, I knew… the weight was off. Upon opening, tears filled my eyes once again. I don’t know about you, but I refuse to believe that lettuce should have a part in any nachos. Secondly, sad pieces of cheap meat(not even sure if it was beef) filled a small portion of the plate. Lastly, their red sauce was smoky but definitely not spicy enough. ‘Twas a sad day.

This place is great. I live in the neighborhood and go all the time. Bean rice and cheese burritos are my go-to and the red and green sauce is great!

Got a «wet burrito»… When I got my burrito I realized they use the taco sauce to wet it. No wonder they don’t have a picture of it. So lame. And they microwaved the burrito in the to go box to melt the cheese! Gross!

This place is food poisoning waiting to happen. I live close to this place and walk by it all the time so because it is so convenient I have been here a couple of times. Once I ordered tacos and the meat was stale. It was hard to chew and it did not smell. Freshly cooked meat usually does but this meat had no smell at all. I basically got the impression it was yesterdays meat. I spent $ 4 on some bland tacos when Taurinos and King Taco are basically right around the corner. Another day I ordered chicken soup. I resorted to just sticking to one item on the menu but this time the soup broth was a brownish yellow color not the usual yellow of other days. This is the type of place that gives the term«hole in the wall» a bad name. The only thing fresh from this place(that I can see being a big draw but have never actually tried myself) is the roasted chicken that you can see them making outside on weekends. Other than that I do not understand how people can give this place 4 or 5 stars. The food is gross.

Very friendly staff. They are quick too! Menu has most of it’s items for under $ 10 and is cash only. As a full time college student, I appreciate restaurants like these. It’s definitely a hidden gem.

I LOOOOOVETHISPLACE! I live right down the street from it and the guys are super nice. The service is fast and it’s just a small, booth-looking restaurant on the corner of Beverly and Normandie. The only downside of this location is that the intersection gets kind of crazy sometimes. I’m not sure if the parking lot behind the place is theirs but that parking lot can get really frustrating too. I usually go at night so the parking isn’t too bad… But a plus side is that they’re open until midnight & Fri-Sun they’re open until 2am. The ambience is nice. Loud spanish music playing in the background… Jesus picture… & other random decorations. The cooks don’t speak much English but it’s still pretty easy to order. It also helps that my boyfriend speaks spanish. My favorite things to order are the al pastor & lengua tacos. The pastor is nicely marinated and not too spicy. The lengua is great too! It’s cooked perfectly and it’s not too tough which can happen with over-cooked lengua. The prices are fair too. 1 something for a taco! They also have horchata! A downside is their sides bar. It doesn’t seem very sanitary because the tongs are always inside the lemons or radish box. People’s fingers are all over THAT! Overall, the food is great and maybe if they were in the plaza, I’d go there often because it’d be easier. Other than that, 4 stars!

Great guys, fast, pretty clean, and definitely tasty. I’ve been going there for about 10 years now, since the owners change and saw some of the transformation that they did with the place. Tacos are cheap, Burritos are cheap, everything is cheap but the quality is great. Never had any problems after eating there, took my friends/family there to eat, they all enjoyed it.

Imagine some oily sweaty dude. Now imagine him packing your food. Now imagine that oily skinny sweaty dude sticking his finger in his oily ear to scratch that itch just before packing your tacos just in time for you to enjoy more greasy oily food. For me i don’t mind oily food sometimes but not when It comes out of your @:”-;ear. I never came back for seconds.

Stop by here for dinner before a night out on the town. «Whose idea was this anyways?» «Well the smell of onions and cilantro is bound to attract something later tonight!» Mrs. Jalapeño makes some mighty fine greasy tasty meats, but unfortunately I cannot speak for their food handling practices. This is almost always the case when trying to run any restaurant understaffed. So the real question is, «Are you a gambling man or woman?» Everything comes with these fat grilled and salted jalapenos a la Taco Nazo and although they’re really not my cup of horchata, everyone else couldn’t get enough of them. There’s a little salsa bar left out in the open in the dinning area spoiling away. Warm uncovered salsa is always a worrying sight for me. And from my time volunteering at ATT Park, I can only start to imagine any number of things flying around and landing in it. But we loaded up anyways, haha. Just can’t stay away from anything hot and spicy and I do mean anything. Mis amigas can be a little more generous with the meats as well. The lady is super friendly and let me mix all the different types of meats into my burritos since I couldn’t decide. I haven’t decided on whether to thank Henry or send him my doctor’s bill for taking me here.

I asked for chicken, but they were out. BOO The prices are not listed on the menus posted, so watch out for that. Also, the menu is completely in Spanish, so for all you little white girls out there like me, decide what you want before you get there. The front window is also right next to a major bus stop, so when I got there there was a huge crowd of people standing around and it was a little awkward. I had to actually call out to the lady inside before someone noticed I was there. Weird… Overall I wasn’t impressed with my experience there. The one plus to this place, that I noticed, was the beef. The carne asada in my burrito was absolutely delicious! If only I had actually wanted beef and not chicken…

El Jalapeño a small taqueria on the corner of Beverly and Normandie with a real nice selection of meats Asada, Suadero, Pastor, Chorizo, Buche, Cabeza, Lengua, Pollo, Tripa… tacos are $ 1.25 They also have a covered seating area with a TV if you wish to eat there, my tacos were ready in just a few minutes, Mmmm looks good I’m ready to eat! Suadero — This one was my favorite and had real good flavor. 4-Stars Buche /Dorado — It had real good flavor though I wish it was a little crispier that’s just my preference since I asked for the buche to be bien dorado, but it was good! 4-Stars Carne Asada — Surprisingly this was my least favorite, I thought it should be more flavorful and I just found it to be OK, though it was not bad at all. 3-Stars Salsa roja(Red salsa) was real good thought I did not try the green!, when in the area I’d definitely return, if your in the area? go check them out.

I’ll take a B rating over an A rating any day if they put cilantro and onions on my quesadilla. I felt as though I was in Mexico, well minus the drug cartels and chiclets. Very authentic vibe. I had to squeeze out what little knowledge I had of the Spanish Language: Una Quesadilla por favor. gracias. Pretty fresh that they serve a whole jalapeño alongside your dish. Def gotta do work on the basketball court this week after this meal.

Cheap & easy… and delicious! Small cash-only hole in the wall, that you cannot miss on the corner of Beverly & Normandie. I can never say no to $ 1 tacos and Jalapeño does the job. They’ve got a good selection of meats: pastor, suadero, lengua, in addition to carne asada and chicken and I believe a few more choices that I can’t remember. All of the selections I had,(which I listed above) were tender cuts and full of flavor. My friend was given a Jalapeño pepper with his tacos and let me tell you, they brought on the heat! I don’t know if ti was soaking in juices all day swimming in spices/hot sauce, but he his face was covered in tears/sweat — coming from a guy who can handle spicy food…

A cheap and delicious neighborhood taco stand. I usually order the asada and pastor tacos, which are both great, but I must say that I favor the asada. Each are topped with chopped onions and cilantro, and the pastor comes with carmelized onions. I think that I’ve found a new favorite in the chorizo taco, which melts in your mouth. Also try the suadero. Don’t forget to try their hot sauces, my favorite is the red. Wash it all down with their horchata. Because of the busy Beverly and Normandie location, I like getting the food to go to escape the noise and eat it over the sink while chugging beer. But if it’s late at night and those beers are catching up to you, it’s also fun to come here and eat tacos in the street.

Not much fan fare here folks… just tortas, taco, burritos, lo que tu quieres amigo… ta ru ra roo ! ! Tacos are cheap, about a buck and you could snazz it up with sauces and lemons that are located at a «condiment» table off to the side. What more can I say… oh yeah… Da Rick…

On those days that i cant drive out to Eagle Rock for some killer tacos, El Jalapeño definitely satisfies my urge. They have a pretty descent selection that includes al pastor, suadero, tripas, buche, asada, chorizo, chicken, lengua, and cabeza. All tacos are $ 1.00 and burritos start at $ 4.50 i think. All of the meats /non meat selections are in a round donut type caldron bubbling away mixing /absorbing all their different flavors so they can serve you a nice juicy taco or burrito. Their tacos are pretty standard with cilantro and onions. There is also a separate table that holds the spicy red and med green sauce along with cucumbers, lemon wedges, and radishes. The best bet is stop by after 7pm, so all of the meats have had a chance to pick up additional flavors to titillate your taste buds. El Jalapeño is cash only, but it def wont break your bank. You can also park on the street after 7pm or park in the lot behind the taco stand.
