My friend and I decided to have lunch at FOOD on a Saturday around noon. We came without much expectations besides reading some reviews. I ordered an albacore sandwich, friend ordered the caprese sandwich. The Caprese sandwich came with chicken by accident, we weren’t complaining, because it tasted amazing and who doesn’t want some extra protein. Our waiter was really helpful and informative. He also gave us 20% off our bill due to accidentally adding chicken to the sandwich, which was a bonus. Overall, would definitely come back to try some of their other dishes. We were lucky enough to find a parking spot that was already paid for a full day in the back! Free parking ftw!

It makes me sad to post this review as I have been coming to Food since it opened. This is not a review of the food it’s a one star for the absolutely unacceptable service experience I just had. I came to Food directly from the airport to have lunch with a friend I hadn’t seen in 6 months. We were sitting at a two top table and stayed for maybe 15 minutes talking after we were done eating. I was not even finished with my coffee when we were interrupted mid conversation and asked by a Food employee if we could be «bribed with cookies» to move to the counter. The restaurant was not packed, there were at least two open tables as well as counter space and we were still asked to move. My friend is a little more soft spoken than me and told them it was fine and we could leave. I was shocked and only said«we were in the middle of a conversation.» I got a look of confusion from the employee instead of a response. I left feeling so angry. If I was a middle aged man instead of a 22 year old woman would I have been«bribed with cookies?» I think we all know the answer to that. I now live in New Orleans and I have made a point of coming to Food every time I’m home. That will not be the case anymore. I am so disappointed in this experience and hope no one else has to go through anything similar. Find lunch elsewhere.

This place is gooood. Great salads and baked goods. Im definitely a fan of this spot. Only reason Im not giving it 5 stars is the lack of organic options. I will be back for sure.

Been coming to this place for years now. Today will mark my final visit as the employees here do not have basic customer service skills. We walked in and my girlfriend stood in line to order and I took a seat at the bar while she ordered. The rude cashier lady had the nerve to tell me I need to get up as you can only sit if you have already paid your food and proceeded to give the seats away to another party. Really? I have sat countless times over the years and no one has ever asked me to get up. You don’t ask a patron to get up when they are already seated especially when most of the time they take your order at the table so you are suppose to be seated first. It’s too bad because the owner is a very nice lady but she should make better decisions on who she hires. Now the cherry on top is that the rude employee had the audacity to smile at me after I said that I’ve been here countless times over the years and no one has ever told me I need to order before sitting. Either my girlfriend or I always sits down and the other orders. She smiled at me and said oh really and proceeded to laugh. Now. If this really was a rule that they follow strictly then there is a way to convey that message to your customer. She was rude to the point where the male employee who witnessed it apologized to us as we walked out and even another customer at the counter got off his seat to offer it to us because she had disrespected me in such an embarrassing manner. I have a medical condition in my right leg which requires me to rest my leg as much as possible. I’m disappointed and embarrassed and will never even look at this place as I drive by again. Shame on you FOOD. If you want to be treated with respect go somewhere else. If you are ok being treated like a dog and embarrassed in front of other patrons then this is the place for you

So rude! If you have a stroller they ask you to sit in the back patio like a second class citizen! Never coming back

Great brunch, a bit pricey for what it is. Get there early as a line definitely forms for seating. The staff is incredibly welcoming and you get a great neighborhood vibe.

I have been coming to Food for a few years now and EVERYTIME I COMEHERE… Judy, the Owner is always so welcoming. It’s like I’m visiting my Aunt. I come here for the QUALITY-food and service. Thanks Judy for always treating me so well. And for the record Judy is NOT A RACIEST. That lady with the bat shit crazy review is off her rocker. Sorry but I’m not sorry.

It was Sunday morning and I was craving FOOD. A nice latte with a morning FOOD sandwich(eggs over medium, cheddar, + bacon) and a side of potatoes was exactly what I needed. What really made my morning though was the wait staff. They were incredibly attentive, cheerful, and kind! Great neighborhood joint!

I came in one Saturday morning with no expectations– just looking for something off our beaten path in breakfast spots, and the pictures on Unilocal seemed enticing. We arrived mid-morning, had a 15 minute wait, and were so warmly welcomed by the host! He seemed exceptionally nice! FOOD is a contemporary, updated 50’s diner and deli, with a spectacular menu that competes with the greatest restaurants of LA. I was thrilled over the quality of food and service FOOD provided! We had the Challah Bread French Toast(a Daily Special) and the Morning FOOD Sandwich($ 9.25) with melted brie and country potatoes. We also got the toast with housemade jam for only $ 3, which was so beautiful… Metered parking available on Pico. A small patio as well.

I am sorry, I deliberately stopped by here today for lunch since I had it bookmarked for a long time and I was very disappointed. Disappointed in how I was treated. Judy was not exactly mean but she made me feel very uncomfortable. It took me a little longer to order since it was my first time here. Judy did not help with any suggestions. She just pointed out to everything they had in the boards. They have breakfast all day and a vast selection of sandwiches and salads. All looked very good. Plus the restaurant was very cozy with small tables and a mini market along the side wall and against the back wall. Their pastries also looked pretty good. Judy was not very helpful with the menu selection. She made me feel uncomfortable when I mispronounced gruyère cheese. She kept repeating it back at me. Not sure why she has that type of attitude. She seemed to be a little bit friendlier to her regular customers that was behind me asking about his vacation. I finally ordered a breakfast burrito with apple smoked bacon, mushroom and avocado. As I was waiting, I wanted to take pictures of the environment to post on Unilocal.Well, Judy comes up from behind me and says,“I would appreciate it if you don’t take pictures.” I was kinda shocked so I said ‚“ok.” But afterwards I was wondering why? Without the pictures on Unilocal I would not have even come in. Plus there are over 400 pictures on Unilocal. But I got a couple before she told me. This 2 star rating is solely because of how she made me feel by entering this place. The burrito I got was pretty tasty. But I am not going to go back because I do not need to feel bad just for a burrito. There are other places with much better service at the same quality.

I’ll start by saying I’ve never dined in the restaurant, I’ve only dealt with their catering services which is run by the owner, Judy. Judy’s food is amazing, but my company will NEVER order from her again due to her disrespectful attitude to paying customers. She’s always rude and over charges for her services. We’ve given her so much business over the years, and asked if we could get a discount since we were placing two orders at a time. She responded with, and I quote, «I DONOTDISCOUNTMYFOOD, DOYOUDISCOUNTYOURSERVICES?» Oh yeah, she types in all caps to make it worse — as if she’s yelling at you throughout the entire email chain. Take a look at some of the other 1-star reviews, they’re typically due to Judy’s disrespectful behavior towards customers. I’m posting this hoping people will overlook the food and not give business to a genuinely MEAN person. Take your business elsewhere to those who are actually grateful for your business.

Came here based on other Unilocal reviews and they got it right. Charming. Clean & upscale casual. Good food and good service, good coffee. I had the typical 3 egg breakfast with grilled sausage, English muffin with really good home fries. Nothing spectacular(nothing out of the ordinary) but all very well prepared and the coffee kept on coming, served by very nice people. Would return in a heartbeat. Really enjoyed it here.

Loved the ricotta pancakes. The quiche tasted good too. However the portions were much smaller than I expected and were pretty pricey. I can’t comment on the service since we got brunch to go, but the food was prepared fairly quickly. Would go back if there was a deal since the food quality is good.

I’ve been wanting to try this place for a long time and I’m glad I finally did! I was craving some American breakfast/scrambled eggs after coming back from Taiwan(LOL) so we decided to try it out. I got the Organic Eggs w/Meat that comes with a potatoes and a side of bread. I chose bacon for my side of meat and it comes with 3 thick, hefty sides of bacon! One thing that really took my by surprise was their strawberry jam. It was VERYDELICIOUS and almost had an extra buttery flavor to it. My bread was a little hard(my teeth suck so I can’t eat crunchy bread) but I still managed and enjoyed the jam. 100% recommend to try the jam! I also ordered a regular hot latte and the BF got hot chocolate. I was thoroughly satisfied with my latte. They also sell baked goods and packaged goods on the shelf. It’s a cute place and I’d recommend for a casual brunch. Nothing super fancy about it but sometimes you just want eggs and don’t need all the frills.

Loved it. I had walked in a couple times previously and I dunno — maybe it was too crowded or something, because I’d never stayed. But, with so many great Unilocal reviews, plus my unquenchable desire for awesome available breakfast options, it was inevitable that I, at last, find a way to just do it. And, I’m so glad I did. Calling first on the phone, I got straight answers from Food in a busy, but friendly manner. I respected that. OK, maybe I’m completely being ridiculous, but I believe a positive experience begins at the moment of contact. Popped in on a very late weekday morning. Yes, lunch was available, but I went with the breakfast. I built a three item omelet using their fresh ingredients and even their suggestion. Spinach, feta and their version of caramelized-like onions made the whole thing outstanding. I asked for easy feta, cause I’m not big on feta, even though every once in awhile I can handle feta. Perfect ratio on a wonderful, hearty omelet. Even the toast(9 grain, I think) was special and tasted extremely fresh. The homemade jam is indescribably delicious. Not sure if it was cherry-based or what(and I’ve simply misplaced my memory on that), but it made me feel happy and refreshed. The room can be a little boisterous, but it wasn’t as loud as I feared. I loved scoping the menu, and glancing at other’s dishes. A lady near me had the Three Salads, and I could easily imagine going that way sometime. Super cold fresh water is do-it-yourself, but the staff sometimes might just swing by and ask if you want a refill. Very thoughtful, simple and thorough were all the elements here: the environment, the people, and of course, the Food.

Tons of options for any dietary need, tons of yummy flavor combinations, and tons of friendly folks in here, both customers and staff. Came here over the Christmas break at 1030am and walked right in, finding a table without issue. The food is pricier than I’d expect, but portions large, quality fresh and local, and overall I’d return knowing now that I’m probably going to drop 45 bucks on a breakfast. I ordered a daily special scramble, and opted for the fresh-baked focaccia. I’ve never loved a focaccia as I did this one, pairing the doughy air bubbles with creamy butter, and some sweet jam served on the side. The components in the scramble came together really well, mixing fresh veggies, with meat and the eggs were super fluffy but not watery. My husband ordered the shortrib quesadilla, and I’ve never seen him eat a ‘dilla so fast. The meat was rich, abundant in depth of flavors through roasting, seasoned aggressively, but not too far. My coffee was continually topped off, and both us sat in silence, eating and taking in our dishes, which to me is usually a good sign.

I usually don’t rate by service, because the food quality is what makes/breaks my dining experience. However, the meh service plus a snobby server here really deter me from coming back again. One server was really rude. My friend was accidentally in his way. When the server said«excuse me» the first time, my friend was already starting to move away. He HADTO say«excuse me» the second time to have her move even faster! Like calm down. Also, the server never refilled our water(within an hour). The flavors were not very wow-ing, but they did make up with freshness. However, the bad service is not worth going to.

During a recent trip to West LA, I tried out Food. I had a list of bookmarks of places to try on the Westside but it was on a whim that Food got chosen. Walking in it was pretty crowded but my friend and I got seated right away. The restaurant is also a like a mini market/deli. They sell fresh baked goods, jams and spices, salads at the counter. There’s a set menu as well as a specials menu. Our waiter recommended the specials because he said they always serve something different and you never know when the special will come back. His first recommendation from the specials menu was the Pasta Mama. This dish has Chino Valley organic eggs, scrambled, applewood smoked bacon, tomato, feta cheese with sherry vinaigrette and a side of rustic ciabatta bread($ 12.75). His second recommendation was the«Green Eggs and Ham» which consisted of Chino Valley organic eggs scrambled, shaved natural ham, gruyère, spinach, asparagus, sautéed onion and basil parmesan postou garnish with cheddar chafe biscuit($ 12.75) When the dishes came out, the plating was pretty nice. With the garnishes on top, the entrees looked very instagram worthy ;). Good plating always makes a good first impression. i didn’t realize later my entrée was missing the rustic ciabatta bread. I had high expectations when it came to the taste. This is partially due to the nice presentation but mostly due to the hype of our waiter. The concept of the Pasta Mama sound great but when it came to eating the dish itself, i thought it was a bit on the bland side. The pasta needed some sort of sauce because all the ingredients were on the dry side and needed a bit more flavor. It definitely had that organic feel and I like that but just needed more of some seasoning to bring out the dish more taste wise. I tried my friend’s cheddar chafe biscuit and thought this was pretty good! It was nice, fluffy and tasty. The meal overall was ok though we had a little minor incident at the end when my friend found a small piece of hair like debris at the side of her dish. The waiter was nice though to comp her meal so kudos to Food for that.

I think this place is better as a brunch spot but we had a late weekday lunch here and I liked it. It is kind of a deli/café hybrid with some of the nicest employees out there. We had the split pea soup and the breakfast sandwich(bacon + egg). The emphasis here is on the Food(obviously) and the ingredients and I could tell they used the good stuff for our dishes. I also ordered their chopped Kitchen Sink salad to-go w/avocado. This I could’ve done without as I believe their other salads might be better especially because the Kitchen Sink salad does not come with avocado initially. Everything is a bit higher priced than you might expect at a café but one has to pony up for better ingredients. I’d be back to Food for brunch with weekend specials including the ricotta pancakes and French toast.
