I am not sure I am qualified to review this place, the Diet Coke and the Almond Cookies were quite good. The best thing about this place is its a island from whats outside. Whats out side? Fashion District crazyness. its very crazy and crowded. These guys have seats outside, cold drinks and almond cookies.

I’ve been a regular for almost a year coming to this bakery about 1 – 2 times during the week day for lunch as it’s walking distance from my work. Besides cakes and pastries that they sell, they also have hot food and sandwiches. I always have loved their sandwiches: $ 6 by itself or add $ 1 more you get a bag of chips and soda. Unfortunately I witnessed something today that will keep me from coming back. I appreciate it when my sandwich artist put on their food safety glove but not the same glove to push the bread cart to another area and open the refrigerator, hold the telephone, write a check, or anything with the SAME glove that handles my food! Talk about handling cold veggies, cheese, cold deli meats, and grabbing metals?! Is that a sanitary issue? That’s up for you to decide.

This review is for their Wedding Cakes only. I was recommended this place by my dress maker — Kara. Her husband and Steve Lee are really old friends and so her customers get a special discount. =) That said, the venue is much nicer that what you would expect for a Bakery in the fashion district. Prices are REALLY good for a multi-tiered wedding cake with whipped cream frosting. Steve also offers good prices for wedding cakes with fondant. There is no pricing difference between a stacked and unstacked wedding cake here.(a plus!) While they do have a small photo album of cakes, they are almost entirely of the whipped cream frosting type and fairly old(his words). It would be best if you arrived with a photo of the type of cake you want and he’ll tell you if he can do it or not. Steve is really nice and low pressure. We were offered a GENEROUSLYSIZED piece of cake to taste. The strawberries(standard asian-style whipped cream n strawberries) were few in number with copious amounts of whipped cream. The cake was a bit on the dry side as well. Reminds me of the cakes from Porto’s — lots of whip with little fruit. Although at Porto’s you can request less whip and more fruit on wedding cakes — I’m sure Steve will do the same.

What a great place to eat at in downtown. The prices are very reasonable and the food they serve is healthy, but also leaves your taste buds satisfied. If you go there to eat food, try their different kinds of breads they have.
