Stopped by with a friend who raved about this place when I was visiting LA; she was so right on about their grilled cheese! I got the ruben one? Can’t remember the actual name — they even offer GF bread but were sadly out of stock that day. The owner or guy in charge, can’t remember his name, was super chill and loved telling us about the menu! Checked in to get the free s’more dessert which was obvi totally worth it. Can’t wait to move here and then I’ll go a lot more!

A decent sandwich, though certainly not worth all the hype. I’d grab one if I was walking past the building but I wouldn’t make an effort to go back for it.

Have you ever eaten a sandwich and thought about how all other sandwiches in your life were a joke? Have you ever eaten a grilled cheese and wanted to cry because you found bae? This grilled cheese place has the most amazing grilled cheese. The cashier was super nice and when my forgetful butt forgot to add an egg to the med, he added it for me and was super sweet about it. When I took my first bite of this sandwich I thought about my whole life up until this point. «I don’t deserve this,» I said under my breath. Okay, that’s dramatic, but jeeze! The cheese was perfectly melty. That point of hot where you can take a bite and drool at the same time. I didn’t want to drink water because the flavor was so amazing. The artichokes added just the right amount of, what’s the word? Artichokey flavor. I loved all of it. And just when I thought the flavor train was pulling over, I got myself a smore. I legitimately did not stop til the last bite was done. This was the perfect smore. It is, though, super messy! Have napkins ready.

People here are beyond nice, the food is amazing. Favorite thing to get here are the French fries!

After my first meal at Greenspan’s, I rushed back to try the Elvis sandwich. The peanut butter cream cheese is unusual… soft, salty and a bit funky. I’m not sure that the King would enjoy this version of his favorite snack. On the plus side, I enjoyed their goat cheese and apple bread pudding. I think the recipe might benefit from a stronger bucheron flavor, perhaps drizzled with honey. All told, I’m just pleased to see goat dairy featured in a dessert. So much more than feta!

Ya havta be charmed when you’re told Shalom annnnnd Namaste in the same breath. But that might distract you from the cheese. This limited menu(well, it IS a grilled cheese place) offers some creative versions of the favorite grilled cheese sandwich we’ve grown up with, and you’re given an opportunity to build your own. At a dollar per addition, the sandwich price can add up… just something to be aware of. Different cheeses and different breads add uniqueness to the offerings. There is also a tomato soup on the menu, and you can order a bowl, a cup or a 2 oz dipping cup. I think the tomato soup had more dairy than tomatoes, so while good, I didn’t find it great. Staff is lovely, place is small with limited seating, and if I lived closer, I might go back.

(thankfully) grilled cheese sandwiches are not apart of my regular diet, but it’s just one of those things that we all crave from time to time, so upon one of those cravings, we finally made it Greenspan’s on Melrose in the heart of the Melrose shopping district. Before moving on to details, Greenspan’s is a sold choice for grilled cheese options when the mood strikes you. We ordered the champ(grilled cheese with beef short rib) which is one of their most popular sandwiches and the Med(Mediterranean veggie grilled cheese). As it turned out, they accidentally made us a Cuban Rueben instead of the Med which ended up being okay since the Cuban Rueben(think Rueben sandwich on a grilled cheese with this great sauerkraut) ended up being really good and the better tasting of the 2 sandwiches we ordered. The Champ was all right, but was no «match» for the Cuban. Bonus, with a Unilocal check-in, you get a free s’more. Who doesn’t love a free s’more?! And as an aside, there is a pseudo speakeasy restaurant/bar called Mare that is only accessible by walking through Greenspan’s to enter.

I love Greenspan! I really do! Almost enough to give it 5 stars, because I really can’t say I’ve had a better, more classic grilled cheese! AND they have gluten free bread so that’s awesome! But the reason I had to dock a star is the tomato soup just doesn’t hold up anymore! The first time I had the tomato soup, it was the creamiest, most delicious tomato soup I have ever had. I dream about how good that soup was! But each time I go back, it tastes like a more watered down flavor and soup than before. It used to be think and puréed, now it’s basically water with a little of the old flavor thrown in. If the tomato soup was up to par, this would probably be my go to, comfort place in LA.

This place was Amazing!!! We were greeted right away with a friendly smile. And, just fyi everything was so fresh! The grilled cheese was made with perfection(perfect cheese and grilled perfectly) along with their tomato soup and their salad. My boyfriend and I were even surprised as to how good their side salad(we ordered the regular salad becsuse because we didn’t know it already came with a side of salad). Overall, great food, great environment, great people! :)

I heard a lot of good things about this place. I finally made it Melrose and check it out. As much as I hate trying to find parking in this part of LA, it was worth it.

Ordered Greenspan’s Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup through Über Eats. It was $ 6.25 plus a delivery fee. The food got here within 5 minutes, and I killed it within a few minutes. Comfort food at its finest.

Ordered The Med, side of Tomato & Basil soup and a free Elvis with the help of my checkin on Unilocal around 5pm on a Wednesday and it was empty, so my order was super quick. Parking was far as always on Melrose. Very hipster but oh so good. Prepped in front of you, plenty of seated bar stools, and a larger seating area for a bigger group; total was 11 and some change. I’ll be back, grill masters!

Wow, they make perfect sandwiches. Sandwiches that deserve 5 solid stars on Unilocal. At least Champ sandwich. I have nothing to complain about, not even a tiny complaint. You can feel the quality of each ingredient they use, everything is well-thought and made right. As perfect as it can get, that’s all I can say. Will be back for sure many many times.

I’m a happy gal when I actually see the chef in his restaurant; extra bonus points for having a friendly exchange. Very cool. Everyone in Mr. Greenspan’s «grilled cheese joint» seems to share his warmth and passion for creating good food. Smiles all around. Of course everything on the menu looks fabulous, but when there’s the option of challah and cheese I can’t resist. My Med grilled cheese didn’t disappoint. Butter soaked crispy slices of bread were filled with gooey provolone, avocado slices, artichoke and tomato — that’s one hearty sandwich. I didn’t feel too bad though because the sandwich came with a side of lightly dressed greens. My hubby ordered the basic sandwich with bacon(he should have opted for The Champ) and we split the mini latkes. I’d definitely come back for a quick indulgent eat, but l’ll save this for a special occasion when I can order The Elvis too.

Another place featured on a food show and it didn’t hit the mark. I get that these hosts exaggerate for the sake of the show but by no means would I make a special trip again(we did get Milk on the same adventure so I can’t completely complain; they are 5 blocks away). The sandwiches were good and held a lot of toppings but it wasn’t brag-worthy. They are served STEAMING hot, not edible for some time which obviously killed the whole gooey cheese moment. The flavors were okay, sort of bland on mine — the Johnny Apple Cheese; my husband got the Champ, said it was good but the meat wasn’t chopped and huge pieces would just fall off of the bread(or hang out of his mouth because he couldn’t chew through the fatty pieces). There are 5 tables total(2 inside &3 outside). Once again, a woman was annoyed that I asked for the chair her purse was on — rude LA locals. I thought the prices were fair considering these are mega grilled cheeses… listen, if I were walking by and feeling some hunger pains, I’d stop. Adam Richman needs to find different words in his thesaurus for these shows and maybe lay off whatever caffeine he’s on. He was WAYTOO excited about this place.

I’ve been wanting to try this place for a while. I keep walking past it on my way to Ping-Tung. It’s a tiny little establishment — more takeout than an actual sit-in place. There are two small table inside though so if you do want to sit, you can. I got«The Champ» which has short ribs in it, something I have yet to turn down. The sandwich itself is pretty good. Not amazing, but hits the spot. My friends got the Johnny Apple Cheese and the Med, which they both thought were good as well. My favorite part of the meal was the fries and the latke dipped in apple crème fraîche. Seriously, those latkes rock! I didn’t know what one was until now. It’s basically a hash brown in a ball form with a soft center and a crunchy shell. If you check in on Unilocal, you get a free smore too! It was a great way to end the meal. The chocolate is partially melted, but overall your standard smore.
