I recommend calling ahead so that you can know the shop hours and can know if someone familiar with your instrument will be there. I heard about this place on KPCC and knew I had to take my little brother here to check it out. We came in on his 18th birthday and he was able to say exactly what guitar he wanted new strings for and they knew exactly what to recommend. One string was not made yet so we got to watch it being made! Very cool. And I love that you can pay by PayPal! They can make custom strings for any kind of instrument you can name, even instruments that are extremely rare tray you can’t buy strings for. The shop front is very small and just down the road from Candela’s guitars. Their website is very good, but if you are local, have an instrument that needs a custom set of strings, or just want to chat with someone knowledgable, I recommend going in!

I make instruments and they make the strings for them. If you can make an appointment to go and get exactly what you need, you’ll be the happiest musician/luthiere ever! I’ve being buying GCS for about… 22 years. And they always make the string that I just need. I’ve also bought strings for e-Guitar, A-Guitar and Harp.

I ordered two sets of strings. Then realized I wasn’t sure if I was getting a Low G for my ukulele – so I immediately sent an email. They arrived timely, but no Low G strings and not response to my email. I tried email again… no response. I tried calling and the recording referred me back to the web site email — what a circle. No response, and then when I went to put the strings on, an A string was missing. These string sets are not cheap as they are tie-dyed and beautiful. But save your money, I have emailed of my intent to Unilocal my dissatisfaction and still no response. So very disappointed.
