GOODBYE Haggen. GOODBYE high prices. It started off with a Grand Opening without any fanfare. Albertsons was closed for two days and then Haggen opened with a new sign. Not much else was different… Oh except one thing, their prices were high. Most of the old Albertsons friendly staff stayed on so at least that was a positive. Then they started disappearing, as did the customers. The supermarket was nice and clean. They cleaned up the cluttered aisles that Albertsons had and tried to improve the displays. While that is appreciated, the high prices aren’t. Even after being notified and admitting to «pricing errors» not much changed. They thought that people would accept their higher prices if they used their catchy words«organic» and«locally produced». While, this neighborhood isn’t poor at all, it isn’t luxury, high-end either. It’s just a normal, middle-class area, with younger families and UCLA students who are probably looking for deals to stretch their budget. There weren’t many good sales in their flyer ads. I’ve came in to pick up some last minute normal veggies, most were fairly priced, but once they ran out of regular brown Russet potatoes. It doesn’t seem any other grocer has an interest in this location right now. Albertsons merged with Safeway(Vons) and there’s a Vons a few blocks up the street, so they won’t take over this place because they’ll just be competing with themselves. Kind of sad to see this place being an empty lot.

For a little more, you could’ve counted on a product where the workers — many who are young children — and the suppliers of the food aren’t living in modern slums(according to The Times — as many grocers — including Whole Foods and Walmart and more — force suppliers to sell their products dirt cheap, so you get the stuff as cheap as possible while they make a profit) — you could’ve had more locally produced — hence fresher foods with less hormones and antibiotics, and better wages for those workers around the globe — where their resources are truly valued But, I guess you’d all rather get a two-sec click on a funny review for your actor wannabe/2 sec of Unilocal fame, why pay more when it’s really hard work moving into LA to steal a dream, right? Why think of anyone else who exists outside of LA? Goodbye Dave’s Killer spelt bread, goodbye Acure products, goodbye Alaffia Fair Trade Shea Soap. Yeah, I know these are all sold at Whole Foods — I know Whole Foods was a grocer listed above and has been sued by the city 3 times for overpricing, for saying their meat and fruits were organic when they weren’t too — Haggens should have advertised — that was an issue, aside from everyone flinching at their name but, I don’t agree with them charging more for the same products sold at Albertsons, but the fact is that more of their products were better produced — good luck finding cheap, cheaply made food for you and your offspring, at the price of others across the way

For the short time Haggen has been here I’m a huge fan. They have all the stuff I used to buy at Wholefoods for half the price. Almond Milk $ 3 vs $ 5. The large box of Truvia was $ 8 vs $ 14. Plus they have/had a lot of organic produce from the U.S. unlike most other stores in the area. In my opinion it is the best grocery chain in LA. For anyone from NY/NJ/PA it’s the closest thing to a Wegman’s which sets the standard for which all others are/should be judged. I’m sooooo bummed they are closing all their stores in California that I might have to consider moving to Seattle.

Terrible terrible terrible! Since the buy over, all of the same inventory has increased in price by 10−20%, i.e. Barilla pasta was $ 1.00, now $ 2.49. Jar of Pimiento peppers: Was $ 2.49, now $ 2.79. Whole Wheat Bread was $ 2.79-$ 3.99, now $ 5.49. All of these items are the exact same brand and types. Others can say what they want about quality increases, but I’ve noticed the qualities have all been the same, other than the fact that they slapped Organic items on the fruits and veggies section. I really hope they bring the prices back. This is definitely not a way to try and compete or bring shoppers into Trader Joes. I’m certainly boycotting all Haggens.

Why would I even think of coming here? I thought they had a Chase ATM. Must have changed it. One small bag of groceries and $ 50 gone. Across the street for the same stuff I’d a paid $ 25. Never again. And they didn’t even have what I needed! Pesto? Really? 2% organic milk? Really? I bought grape tomatoes and all of the tomatoes that were not visible were bad. Redic

Walked in and this grocery store was a ghost town. And no wonder with the prices they have! Who’s going to buy their groceries here and pay that when you can go to whole foods instead and spend the same amount? We just happened to stumble in here because we needed a few items and were at the In n Out. Would I ever step back in here? No, no thank you. I’ll stick to Ralph’s, Trader Joes and Whole Foods. One star for their craft beer selection if you’re into that. I assume that’s how they want to differentiate themselves.

They’ve decided to lay off Downs Syndrome employees that had been working here when it was Albertsons. I won’t be shopping here again.

Goodbye Haggen! I have to tell you I thought Albertson’s was bad when it came to service or lack thereof. I was wrong. I went into this store at 7 am… As I have worked in customer service my whole career I find that when a store first opens the doors you have the best chance for good service. This store has shattered my long held opinion! As I walked through the store I counted no less than 7 employees and 1 manager. Not one of them greeted me. I realize this is LA and I shouldn’t really expect much, but who am I? All I was looking for was some fruit for the day. I made past the cheese and deli counter passed two employees and at least 1 manager. Then I perused the fruit section… there I encountered two employees who had tons to say about The Minion Movie but not a look in my direction or a greeting… Then I made my way past the liquor section through the pharmacy section to the cash registers past the same manager from the morning talking to an employee. Later I found out she was the only cashier on duty… How did I find that out? Cause there were no cashiers in the front. As I waited at the cash register that was lit up, and waited I heard them continue their conversation… I poked my head around the corner as if to say«Hello, I’m waiting…» and still I waited. Finally I picked up my fruit and headed to self check out. I did complain at the Service desk. But with this much lack of customer service it won’t make much difference…

WHY, WHY, WHY would someone build a Haggen across the street from a Trader Joe and charge twice as much for the same items. Too many top heads(stupid managers) at this store running around with their heads cut off. I was told they just lay off most of the baggers. I know it’s just a matter of time before they close or sell this store.

Their shirts and signs tout«hello Haggen, goodbye hassle.» It should read«hello Haggan, goodbye quality, service, and the neighborhood grocery store.» I’ve lived several blocks from this grocery store for 26 years. I remember back when it was a Lucky’s. Boom! Proof I’m legit. I walked into the store the other day for the first time since Haggen took over, I needed to get some produce and did not want to deal with the inevatable parking circus at Trader Joe’s across the street. The first thing that struck me was the new signage. Everything is green, so As I strolled back toward the produce section, I expected everything to be happy and green. Well, reality could not of differed further from my expectations. Most of the produce that caught my eye looked sad, splotchy, brown and just terrible. GOODBYEQUALITY!(see photos.) I wanted to let the manager know about the bad produce before I walked out of there but he was too busy doing something on the automated checkout machines to give me a moment of his time so that I may show him the spoiled produce. He asked me to stand around which I did for about 40 seconds before I told him that I had to get going. His response, good day sir. GOODBYESERVICE! I don’t think I will ever be stepping foot again in Haggen, too much of a hassle. Oh, and all the prices seem to have shot up. So you’ll pay more for less, and be treated like dirt at Haggen! Yay, welcome to the neighborhood… not! Goodbye Albertsons, goodbye quality, goodbye service — Hello Haggen, hello hassle.

We had to stop here a few weeks ago to pick up one item. The market which used to be Albertson’s is not very clean and the staff is not very helpful. I don’t think I would return here as I am used to shopping in places where items are in place on the shelves and where the staff is friendly and helpful. neither of those things happened at this store.

Worst market ever. You replace Albertsons for this inferior product? Nothing ever on sale, terrible food. I live 300 feet away and make it a priority to drive the extra 3 miles for a decent market. Please close as soon as possible.

I just stopped by Haggen’s for some hot food from the prepared food area. I bought some Chicken Strips which were a lot of batter and a small amount of chicken. I also brought home a few BBQ Drum sticks which were eatable but noting to brag about. The market is nice with the wide isles but I have not done any grocery shopping here yet.

Love what they did to the store and company as a whole. True there’s a minor increase in prices;however, the quality of product is unbelievable. It is human nature to react to change, given the fact the we are creatures of nature and change could be difficult. But people we need to realize that all Albertsons and Vons where out dated and not keeping up with other stores such as Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods. HAGGENS’ products are great and I’m very happy that they have arrived in Southern California. Next time you’re in a grocery store take the time to look at Products such as Foster Farms chicken and compare it to Haggens chicken, you will see a significant difference in the quality. Why are Foster Farms huge and Haggens chickens are lean ?? It’s due to all the hormones and other chemicals that are injected in these meats by companies such as FF. These chemicals are then consumed by us and our love ones. So if you see price differences think quality. And by the way This location is alway a pleasure to shop at. The checkers are very welcoming and very polite. Parking is never an issue.

Albertsons, my regular grocery store(in addition to Trader Joe’s), has been replaced by an entity called Haggen. On my first visit, the place impressed me. They created more space between the line of cash registers and the goods for sale. In addition, the entire cash-register area had hardwood flooring. It was a good look. Then I bought 2 or 3 of my usual items and the prices did not seem to change. Also, I recognized some Albertsons employees still working there. Then on my second visit, the story was different. It seemed there was less space in the area described above. And worse, I shopped for two(2) things and both items disappointed me. They are as follows: (1) In their first flyer, Haggen advertised a pack of 18 eggs for $ 1.49. I thought, I’ll go for that even if they are not antibiotic-and-hormone-free eggs like the ones sold at Trader Joe’s(TJ). So I bought the eggs but when I got home, I noticed that the eggs’s sell-by date was only a week away. In comparison, TJ’s sell-by date is about three weeks away(from the time I purchase them). (2) Also, one of the few things I regularly bought at Albertsons was Arrowhead water. But when I got to Haggen’s, the Arrowhead one-gallon water was priced at $ 2.19. A mark-up of about 100%. So I looked around and decided to try something else. I noticed that Haggen had their own brand of water for 89 cents. So I bought one. And. .. another disappointment. The Haggen’s water tasted quite terrible. Next time. .. there will be no next time.

They just changed our Albertsons to Haggen. First off, I don’t think the name of your company should become the word HAG when the lights are not working on the sign. It’s just a turn off. Everything was the same! It was not an better than a plain old Albertsons. It was more money, with the same lack of charm. What is the point? I am really glad they didn’t fire the employees. It is the closest option, so I am a bit of a captive audience. But really. Not a fan.

Albertson’s quality but with higher prices. That pretty much sums up my 1st impression of this store. Yeah they changed the logo and layout of the store. Supposedly they have highier quality product. Um… where? All I know is that all the Albertson advertised deals did not apply here and things like meat, cheese or iced tea that I religiously got at the old Albertsons are now more expensive. The one plus is that they seemed to keep most of the staff. But that’s not enough for me. With Trader Joe’s across the street and Sprouts a couple miles away, it’s pretty safe to say I’ll not be shopping here or at any Haggens in the future.

yeah, what a let down. when we got the flyer claiming that they’d have santa monica seafood in the store, we were excited at the prospect. it would cut down the drive time to San Mo for our fish dishes. sadly, the rest of the store also was a let down in quality and presentation. I mean, you don;t have to be the prettiest store in the world in order to stock fresh food, but in this case, it looked a lot like a day after prom night, when things went really bad. how sad for us, just like expecting a little too much out of prom night and getting all excited only to see the sad old gym underdressed for the occasion.]]]] meh

Well, its been less than a week that Haggen took over my favorite supermarket, Albertson’s. I shopped today and was not impressed. They did little to change the place, but I did notice what they changed, in a big way, were the prices. I understand that Haggen is going to have all the upscale stuff that will be expensive, but the regular shelf, produce and meat items are just that, same ‘olé, same ‘olé; so why are the prices higher? I’m still going to hold out and keep my fingers crossed that they will keep up the quality(and eventually the sale pricing) of the beef/fish/produce. Only time will tell. If they do, perhaps the two star rating will get a bump. But not until then!

This place is what I imagine a cross breed of trader joes and Albertsons would be. Its clean, bright and new feeling although the layout is exactly the same of the old Albertsons. A lot of good brands, organic products, and their own brand products. Seems kinda pricey though– I bought some of the same things earlier today at vons for less.
