Hong Kong Express

Not a great meal, not a clean place, not an air conditioned place. This place is about what you would expect in this rough, garment/​sweat shop area… but come on… you gotta try.
Don’t eat here for a variety of reasons if you value your health and well being.
Prices are cheap and so is the food.

If I could give this place zero stars I would. This place is horrible!!! I ordered the shrimp fried rice and well I found a little more than shrimp! There was a cockroach in my food… disgusting!!! I’ve never been so disgusted in my life. I was so shocked I immediately just took my plate back and demanded a refund. Not sure what grade they have but for cockroaches it should definitely be an F!!! Steer clear of this place unless you like a little extra protein… yuck!!!

The only thing I liked was the boba and the chow mein. The prices are good too, and welcome you with big smiles. The orang chicken isn’t all that good.

Parking was a minor issue but they’re very kind and the food is good in my opinion, at least what I ordered was (Chow Mein, Orange Chicken, Beef & Broccoli). The Orange Chicken just tastes a little different.

It’s true that there are not a lot of options in the neighborhood, but I will from now on always choose mcdonalds or subway over this place.
The worst noodles. chalky, overcooked. They really messed up the Chow Mein. Terrible.
The other foods were blah. I’ve had cheap chinese that’s still flavorful, this was not it: terrible sweet and sour, bland vegetables, poorly breaded shrimp.
I can’t comment on the other dishes, but the noodles are a death knell for a chinese restaurant.
The staff is really nice though.

Hong Kong Express is directly across from, and very convenient to, the LA Courthouse. I came here the other day to get lunch to go as I was leaving the courthouse. The woman behind the counter was very friendly and helpful. She offered me samples before I decided on a chicken dish to go with egg rolls and rice for my two item combo. She gave me a lot of chicken. She even went back and gave me additional chicken after I ordered egg rolls as my second item and completely filled my container. It was an enormous amount of food for not a lot of money.
I would categorized Hong Kong Express as a quantity over quality type of place, but the food was still good. I liked everything I got and was surprised by how tasty it was. I was completely stuffed after eating here and would come back the next time I am in the area.

Wish I had gone to McDonalds across the street. Mushy rice and grey chicken. Can’t bring myself to eat it.

Good place, very cheap! They over stuff your plate they can’t even close it, 1 plate and with 2 sides feeds 2 lol under 7 dollars :) good when your just starving.

Also had jury duty at Metropolitan Courthouse. This place is super easy to walk to and you get a lot of food for your money. 2 stars is because, well, it’s OK, but not something you want to brag to your doctor about eating.

i think the combo i got was rice, chow mein, & 2 items for like $ 5 or $ 6.
the two items chicken items i got had a lot of bones in them, though ;(

I was at the Hill Street courthouse for jury duty and we had an hour and a half lunch. This place is across the street from the courthouse so it was easy to walk to and get some lunch. The food was really good and fresh, but the kung pao chicken was not as hot & spicy the way I like it. Food and drink $ 5.98, what a deal.
