We visited this location of Hop Li 1.5 weeks ago with another couple that stated this ‘Hop Li’ was the better of the two in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, the food was mediocre to say the least and not one waiter could be deemed friendly. When the bill came it was paid for with cash. When we received the change, we were shorted $ 11.00. It was brought to their attention and they did correct their mistake. This same incident happened about 2 years ago at this same establishment. That is why we never went back until 1.5 weeks ago, thinking maybe it may be it had changed. Not! The other Hop Li is located on Pico Blvd., in W.L.A. of which we have always gone to and have been more than happy with the friendly service, food and correct change given.

I have been coming here for longer than I can remember. This place is authentic and yay they finally have an A rating again! Sure the waiters are a little airheaded but the food is always great. From soup to seafood I recommend mostly everything on the menu. Try to stay away from the overly complicated or americanized dishes.

ordered a to-go order for stir fried flat noodles with beef for 7 – 10 people. SEVENTOTEN! and I emphasized that with the man over the phone. when I went to pick it up it honestly was enough for about 4 people. When I asked the guy who took my order he said yes, it can feed 7 – 10 if everyone takes a little bit. WTH. I was so upset, but we were already late to our party. I added on Westlake soup for 8 people, which was actually suited for 8 people. Flavors of the noodles were meh. THe restaurant has mediocre food, but is in a good location and they have great signage so that will keep people coming in the door.

Taking into account that we went for Christmas Eve, the experience was meh. We were there at 5PM, before the big rush so it only took 10 to 15 minutes to be seated. We ordered moo shi vegetable, chicken with asparagus, and vegetable lo mein. The moo shi was lacking the two key ingredeints: lily flower and black fungus(a mushroom). The pancakes were pre-rolled, which was a nice touch, however, they did not put the hoisin sauce inside. So, we had to unroll each piece and add the hoisin, which was messy and ruined the integrity of the so-called Chinese burritos. The chicken with asparagus was bland, as expected. The lo mein noodles were cooked to perfection with broccoli and baby bok choy. We added a large order of steamed rice; the bowl was only half filled, a definite faux pas. One person had a beer and the others just water. The bill came to $ 45 plus tip, which is a wee bit on the expensive side. I think I will stick to Mandarin Kitchen or Hop Woo when I want to eat Chinese on the westside.

Definitely not the best chinese food Ive had but luckily I got the dished I loved. Had to try the honey walnut shrimp. Absolutely my favorite dish. Also got a dumpling appetizer and pork fried rice. The shrimp was definitely the best part of the meal. However some of the shrimp skin was not peeled. Almost a deal breaker. The fried rice was deeply fried. Basically old ass rice and leftover pork. Basically. The pork dumpling wasn’t good either prolly frozen and heated up and quickly pan fried. Overall very standard chinese restaurant. Waiter has straight up no manners. Classic chinese restaurant staff I love it haha. Very rude and in your face and stern. Décor of the place really has that old school chinese feel to it also so I definitely loved this place and would like to come back.

One of our favorite Chinese Restraints in LA. The restaurant is simple but the flavors of in their dishes are great, and the staff is very fast with the service. Our favorite dishes are the Pan Fried Noodles with the Sea Food Medley and the Steamed Fish with Garlic and Black Bean Sauce.

After living in West LA my whole life, I recently found out about Hop Li through a family friend. Hop Li is located in a very small plaza in the Sawtelle neighborhood of West LA. It’s hard to find Parking if you do decide to ever come here. Spaces are limited and very tight. I wasn’t too impressed with the food. Seemed like every dish needed more salt and pepper. I ordered the Kung Pao Chicken off the lunch special. It came with your choice of hot and sour or egg drop soup, steam rice, egg roll, and a wonton crisp. I thought The Kung Pao Chicken was bland and had to reach out for salt, pepper, and sambal paste. I also had the opportunity to try what my sister ordered, the Szechuan Chicken. I thought that was the best. The flavoring was okay, but again needed more sodium. My mother had ordered the mango chicken with asparagus. That particular dish was too sweet. It almost tasted like candy. Maybe if they used green mangoes and added salt, pepper, and just a little more garlic, it would have completed the dish. Another thing, I thought the entreés could’ve used a little more sauce. The food wasn’t moist enough and to use green onion or parsley for a fresh garnish. People feast with their eyes before their mouth. Prices are affordable. The restaurant itself was clean and tidy. The staff was very polite and attentive. Might come back for the Szechuan Chicken and the Hot and Sour Soup.

Good Chinese food on the Westside. The lunch specials always have enough food for at least two meals! This location is moderately clean and sanitary. I think some reviewers mistakenly posted here about the Pico location, which badly needs a facelift. Staff is a bit curt, but usually OK in my experience. Prices are reasonable for regular menu items, and very good for the lunch specials.

My friend and I wanted to try a new restaurant in the neighborhood so we drove by and decided on Hop Li. I can’t rate to the quality of the food, but the 1 star rating is for the terrible customer service. I was trying to order the chicken with mango and asparagus(as listed on the menu) and the waiter kept yelling ‚“Mango chicken?!” very rudely. The waiter/manager was extremely rude and had a bad attitude. We were so put off by the manager’s attitude we got up and decided not to dine here. This experience left a very bad taste in my mouth and needless to say left a lasting first impression that will have me not returning here.

Nothing to rave about here. Most of the dishes we ordered were just ok, except for Mongolian beef which was under cooked. Friendly service is definitely lacking. Had to ask for water and condiments mid meal. Prices are still fair but nothing that makes me want to return.

I have been coming here for years and always satisfied. On my latest visit it could not have been worse. The second we walked in the restaurant we could tell this place has gone downhill. The carpet is beyond dirty it is black. The maître d’ doesn’t talk he grunts. They forgot to put in our order so it took much longer than usual. I am not real picky when it comes to Chinese food however I will not be coming back.

The choices are slim for good, authentic Chinese eats on the Westside. Hop Li is one of the rare traditional Chinese joints that is on par with the average SGV and Chinatown restaurants… flavorful food, traditional extensive menu, poor service and everything else I’d expect out of a decent Chinese place. The flavors of the dishes are all on point. Some dishes are hit and miss, but they do the basics right. I really like the chow mein, which is cooked with thin noodles and a nice char. Other favorites are the hot braised string beans and shrimp with spicy salt. I also like the clams with blackbean sauce and lobster with ginger and green onion. The flavors taste«right» and prices are within reason for Westside eats. Hop Li is the closest place for me to satisfy my Chinese cravings, and a place I can take my picky Asian mother, who has a strong aversion to all Americanized Asian food. There is free parking in the strip mall, and plenty of parking underground. There is also nearby street parking.

This is my go to Chinese place. I’ve been coming here for years. Today was not one of their better days for food or service. We have some favorites that have been consistently good: 5 stars for the honey walnut shrimp, Peking pork chops, and spicy salty squid. 4 stars for the beef stew which I tried for the first time here. The beef and tendon were tender and flavorful but I would have like more tendons. I would order the the beef stew hot pot again. The chow fun was really lacking today. Normally this is my favorite dish, I even asked for more garlic and black bean. Everyone agreed the dish was bland. 0 stars for the chow fun. the crispy 3 flavor noodles was bland also, 0 stars for the 3 flavor noodle dish. The scallop with ginger was tasty, but the scallops were few compared to the abundance of green onions. 3 stars for the scallops. Spicy eggplant is also a family favorite =4 stars. Where they lost major point today was the slow service and I attentiveness of the server. I guess we caught them on a really bad day. I will give them another try since I have never had this problem before at Hop Li.

This is a solid choice for chinese food in the area. Not the best chinese food I’ve ever had, but pretty good. The portions are huge and very reasonably priced. The service was fine, they took our order and brought us our food in a timely fashion. The food we ordered was good and we were super full at the end of the meal! The chicken chow mein and sweet and sour chicken were our favorites!!!

The food here is great! My in-laws tell me that this joint has been here for 30 years. Maybe they meant the building’s been there for over 30 years. I don’t know the history. But I do know I like the food. The staff aren’t the new breed of Chinese restaurant waiters who are super attentive and polite — but they do get the food to your table and onto your plate, and that’s all that matters to me. Some of the staff have been around for a long time, it’s always good to see familiar faces. There have been rumors of a change of management, but that hasn’t been confirmed, but it continues to be a subject of much heated debate. I don’t know, and frankly, I don’t care. Only thing that needs to be heated, in my opinion, is the food, and they do a great job of that at Hop Li.

Hop Li Seafood Restaurant, Santa Monica, is one of four locations(Arcadia, L.A.‘s Chinatown, West Los Angeles, and«Santa Monica»). My relatives have patronized this restaurant for decades, it seems. The waitstaff know my brother very well; and, we always enjoy excellent service. The tables are set with white tablecloths, even for the lunch hour. I have read some one-star reviews, but we have never felt that way about this restaurant. If you like, you can bring your own wine bottle(s). The corkage fee is $ 5.00 per bottle. The food preparation is Cantonese, which I especially enjoy. A hearty lunch meal with relatives, enjoyed«family-style,» consisted of a succulent half a Roast Duck, which I love, $ 14.50; Sweet and Sour Pork, $ 11.50; Squid w/spicy salt, $ 11.50; Sizzling Steak w/black pepper sauce, $ 15.50(not presented on a hot-sizzling platter); Fish Fillet w/ginger and green onion, $ 12.95; Sauteed Shrimp w/string beans, ginger, garlic, with brown sauce, $ 15.95; Chinese Broccoli w/oyster sauce, $ 10.50; and, Sparkling Chicken with Mixed Seafood(chicken, shrimp, baby scallops, snow peas, and black mushrooms, with tender tofu, $ 11.95. All of the entrees were«on the mark» for flavor and preparation. For my extended families, this restaurant is a good, steady performer.

I come here pretty often for my Chinese food fix and it’s pretty legit! Great food, reasonable prices and gotta love the free hot tea if you dine in. I love the fish, congee, and fried rice dishes here. They also have lunch specials.

Probably some of the best(American) Chinese food I’ve had thus far. My friend had been raving about this place for quite some time so I thought we should come here for his birthday. Sure the place is janky, but that’s what makes it authentic! If you don’t see some older lady sitting alone in a booth with her laptop, then the place you’re at is way too fancy. Anyway, the ambiance is average at best and the service is the bare minimum but the food is awesome. For dinner we had: — an order of wontons(I would skip this, personally) — hot and sour soup(DELICIOUS) — honey walnut shrimp(very good) — tangerine beef(like a really good orange-chicken-fried-steak) — chicken lo mein(excellent) Aside from the so-so wontons, honestly I was not disappointed with a single dish. Everything I tasted was cooked nicely and had perfect flavor. There were no leftovers. Tea and water was pretty much always filled and they gave us some really beautiful, juicy oranges after our meal. I was very full but also very satisfied. I would definitely love to come back, even if I had to go out of my way.
