I love House of Pies but I had a real crap experience there recently… I came in mid-day for a milkshake and was served, after a super long wait, a 5 dollar glass of flavored milk, essentially. The dudes on staff were too busy joking with each other to bring me the glass of water I asked for when served the shake — until I’d actually left the counter to pay. They seemed totally unconcerned. Why you have to break my heart like that, House of Pies?

We stopped by for a slice of pie to go. Wow! I love it. I got the pecan cheesecake! So good. The mixture of both are just so perfect. The cheesecake is just wonderful! My new fave cheesecake!

I absolutely love the House of Pies. I know that the service can be shabby during the afternoon but honestly THEYHAVEAMAZINGBREAKFASTS!!! GOFORTHEBREAKFAST. GOFORTHESTRAWBERRYCREAMPIE. The Brazilian omelette is to die for. Yeah, it’s a bit pricey but the leftovers are totally worth it. GREATPLACEFOR A DATE. Especially if you’re just getting to know the person. Great for groups of 4 – 6 people. Just go here. It’s delicious. Con: Parking sucks

We saw this place on the way to the Griffith Observatory and decided to try it out since there was immense traffic to go back home and we were getting hungry. I got the pomodoro, which was delicious and I ate the entire thing: x We got a slice of peach pie for dessert, no whip cream or a la mode since I’m lactose intolerant. It tasted good, but the slice that we got was kind of falling apart and was almost flat when presented. I’m not sure if that’s how it’s supposed to look like and if I have this glorified image of a slice of peach pie, but at least it tasted good. They had a long list of pies and I wish I could’ve tried more while I was there. Is there such a thing as a pie sampler??? I feel like of all the places, this is the place to have one.

Absolute shit hole. The pie here sucks. The ambiance is totally fucked. No wifi. It looks like they attempted to remodel and update the place but they did a half ass job. I wouldnt be surprised if this ended up on that Kitchen Nightmares show.

The banana cream pie here is dope! Also the hot brownie Sunday isn’t to be overlooked. However, I was pretty dissapointed with the other pies, including strawberry, bavarian cream, and yada yada yada. On the outside this place has a unique 60’s vibe with it’s rock like architecture. However on the inside, everything has been neglegted except that sweet sweet glass revolving display case, showing of the full range of pies for all it’s glory. Otherwise the vibe is flat, with awkward views into the prepping area, that doesn’t feel inviting. Even stoners should use a little caution.

Well. Ok, I’ll be real. I love pie and this isn’t pie. This is some sort of cousin of Sara Lee. I rename this location House of Lies. I ordered the basic cherry pie. I figured this couldn’t be messed up and is my favorite type of pie. I was wrong. The filling was way too red, just… not legit. When the cherries cook in the butter and sugar, they caramelize to a deep reddish brown. Nice try with this bright red syrup from the can. The sweetness on a scale of 1−5…6.7 death status. Artificial tasting. The crust, not bad in the center, but burnt on the edges and I don’t do burnt edges, so I ate the lattice and left the 3rd degree burned crust in the Styrofoam container(not good for the environment!!) The staff was friendly, especially the cooks who were giving me googly eyes from their peep window in the kitchen to the right of the entrance. Keep it classy House of Lies.

Are you ready for this? I used to WORK there. The woman who owns /manages this place is a straight up thief & Hustler. she TAKESTIPSFROMTHESERVERS. she also makes the servers TIPOUTTHECOOK to subsidize their wages so SHE doesn’t have to pay as much. It is literally illegal and I don’t even know how she gets away with it. It’s really crazy. Also, the food is disgusting, nobody washes their hands that work there, and everything is really gross. Trust me. AVOIDLIKETHEPLAGUE. I hope a health inspector /undercover whoever reads this and finally investigates because like I said i don’t even know how this place stays in operation with shady business practices like this.

You haven’t had fried chicken till you’ve had it broasted. They deep fry the chicken in a pressure cooker type fryer that makes the chicken so crispy and tender at the same time. Changed my life! My boyfriend ordered the Philly cheese steak which was drizzled in cheese, I didn’t get to try it but it looked amazing! I had the beef dip sandwich which was made even better with the au jus sauce that was so flavorful. And of course we ended the meal by getting some pies to take home for late night snack.

Good for Breakfast. On this visit, I ordered their large breakfast(eggs, hash browns, bacon, ham, pancakes and toast). It was quite filling, however, my hash brown were a bit burnt. Popular with locals for breakfast, but parking is limited. Service is good.

I thought our waitress was just too serious. Didn’t look friendly, but she kept my cup of coffee full, brought me pickles on the side when she saw me taking the pickle out of our daughters plate. It took her a while but she smiled and did a great job. We all loved our food, veggie omelet, Philly cheese steak, buffalo chicken sandwich, and bbq burger. Food was hot, fresh, and yummy. But most importantly, my coffee was Hot and my cup was never empty

BANANACREAMPIEFORTHEWIN! other than that it’s like… an ihop that didn’t sell it’s soul to corporate america. i got a salad and that bitch was HUGE! So their servings are really big, but at the same time, the prices match what you get. Its not cheap even though you feel like you stepped into some cute little diner that hasn’t changed in forever. that doesn’t win me over. nope.

I came here recently and had a delightful breakfast experience at this place. We were seated pretty quickly at a lovely booth near the front, by the window which gave the diner beautiful natural light and a casual ambiance. One of the best deals I saw was the House of Pies Ultimate Breakfast Combo, which was $ 11 and it was plenty of food to share between 2 people. The combo comes with 3 eggs(any style), bacon, sausage, ham, hash brown, toast, as well as your choice of 3 pancakes or waffle. We couldn’t choose between the pancake and waffle, so the waitress suggested we get a side of waffles. However, later we found out that the«side» of waffles cost $ 6.95 which sounds like full price to me. After trying both, I would recommend the waffle, which was crispy while still being fluffy, slightly sweet. The pancakes looked pretty, but were quite thin and not that flavorful, though they soaked up the maple syrup really well. The rest of the breakfast was quite good. I had the eggs over hard and they were tasty; the hash browns were well seasoned and fried to perfection; all the meat was great and had a lot of nice flavor to it. The toast was just okay… They were the only part of the meal that we barely touched. My friend ordered Huevos Rancheros, which was a yummy cheesy concoction that wasn’t too spicy. Then we ordered some pies to go: Dutch apple pie and Bavarian Chocolate cream pie. The apple pie was perfectly crumbly on the top, with sticky sweetness on the crust and an awesome burst of apple filling. The Bavarian Chocolate was absolutely gorgeously made, with pale chocolate all over and a very pretty whipped cream wreath around it. The taste was actually kind of unexpectedly light and I enjoyed the flavor of the chocolate, cream and crust… Everything went together so well. Both pies were delectable! The service was good as well. Our waitress was very nice and accommodating.

I just want to give a shout-out to our waitress — I’m sorry I don’t remember her name but she had a blonde ponytail. My boyfriend and I recently stopped by House of Pies because I was craving, what else, pie, but we didn’t realize until after we sat down that we were in a time crunch. Thank goodness for our angel of a waitress who was sweet and patient as could be — She was able to bring us a slice of pecan pie a la mode and a black coffee to go with the check in about 5 minutes. What a saint! Trust me, a lot of servers would get PO’ed in this situation(rightfully so), but ours was just a darling! Thank you, mystery server! Also, A++++ on the pecan pie — warm, gooey, nutty, sweet… perfect! And they give you a generous helping of ice cream if you get it a la mode, so of course I have to recommend doing that too! Will be back for sure!

I stopped by on a Sunday night for some dessert. There was plenty of parking and plenty of seats inside the dinner. We order the blueberry pie a la mode(a scoop of ice cream) and pineapple pie with whipped cream. Both were delicious but I have to say that the pineapple was my favorite. This is a great spot for when you have that pie craving. Customer service was great and I will definitely be going back.

After hiking three miles, we decided to pack on the calories. Large group of us were seated quickly on a Saturday morning. Servers were very friendly and the range of foods we ordered were all decent. I had salmon Caesar — croutons outnumbered Romaine, and the dressing was a bit lacking in classic Caesar richness, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Salmon was cooked nicely and the portion was large. Croissant french toast — nice! But they ran out of cinnamon buns for their cinnamon bun french toast. Boooo. Clam chowder — lots of clams, nice consistency. Grilled cheese — strange smell. Almost like new plastic toys. Parking is really limited so try to park on the street if there’s a spot available.

I ventured over to House of Pies all the way from Santa Monica in search of some late night pie. What I found was an overrated price with reasonable prices. This place was insanely busy without reason. The staff was way overworked and when we finally got to sit after about 10 minutes the server was too busy to come over for another 10 minutes. Not her fault, they’ve overworked her with poor scheduling. Then we order the pie. It took another 15 minutes for a place slice of pie. That blew my mind, cant the server just plate it herself after taking our order? I guess not. The pie that arrived was smaller than expected but fortuantely was tasty. Only about 5 or 6 bites worth, but I guess that’s what you get when you’re paying half the price you’d pay for a steakhouse dessert. I had the pumpkin cheesecake which tasted as you’d expect, nothing spectacular or odd. The crust was good and featured«exquisite mouthfeel.» It took, you guess it, another 10 minutes of waiting behind just two other people in line to pay for our meal. Yep, we had to wait in a line to pay while the cash register lady also handled all the to go orders and phone orders. Awesome. All the staff were delightful but it was clear they are insanely overworked, and with the quality of the food, I must say, I’m not really sure why. Skip this place.

PIEME. Best thing about this place is you can get a pie at 12am and it’s good! Can’t really comment on their food cause I only came here to get a pie. Looks like a typical diner restaurant similar to Dennys. Strawberry custard pie is so yummy~! Can’t wait to try more pies here :) My group and I tried ordering a full pie and eating it there, but they wouldn’t let us. They would only let us order by the slice if we were to seat down and eat it inside. Full pies are cheaper than buying it by the slice, so we just got the full pie to-go and at it outside :) BOOM. Drunken munchies. PIES. yes.

I came here on a Tuesday afternoon because my special friend has been telling me I HAVE to try this place. The food I ordered was okay, but I can say the pies make up for it. ~Location It’s located in the corner between Franklin Ave & Vermont Ave. They have their own little parking lot, but there aren’t a lot of spots available. But we were lucky when we got there and there were 2 open spots. ~Service The service was quite slow, but that was only because there was 2 servers, which later turned into 1. At first when my special friend & I first walked in, we waited a couple minutes before we got seated. It wasn’t because they were super busy, but because there were no workers around. Not too long after we were seated, the same server came over and asked if we were ready to order; at the time we weren’t. When we were finally ready to order, there was only 1 server & she was running around trying to give people their food & take orders. And when our orders came, there was probably a misunderstanding or she heard it wrong, but we ordered a chicken salad sandwich not an egg salad sandwhich. We told her, but in the end we figured it was just better to just leave it since she was really busy. She also took notice that I didn’t eat a lot of my chilli cheese fries & asked if the fries were okay. Overall, the service isn’t bad. It’s just they need to have more servers working. ~Cleanliness It’s safe to say that overall the place felt clean. The place just had some older furniture, so it might’ve given the impression that it was dirty. ~Food My special friend orginally ordered the chicken salad sandwhich, but was mistakenly given the egg salad sandwhich instead. It wasn’t bad, it was okay. And for an extra dollar we got a side of onion rings. And as for me, I got the chilli cheese fries. It’s not on the menu, but you can ask for it! The chilli cheese fries was just okay. It was something about the chilli that didn’t wow me. And I would’ve preferred that they used white onions rather than the green onions. But what I REALLY liked about the chilli cheese fries were the super thin cut fries. Now to the best part. PIES. So my special friend ordered the strawberry pie while I ordered the blueberry pie. For some reason, our server asked if I wanted mine to be warmed up, so yeah why not! It was seriously the best part of the meal! If I’m ever in the LA area, I’ll want to come back for their pies !

I’ve driven by this place for years and never wanted to try it because from the outside it looks a little run down, like it hasn’t been remodeled since the 60’s. And with a name like House of Pies it just sounded like a place that mainly serves pie. But one late night we were looking for some good food and happened to be driving by again and my wife suggested we give it a shot, especially since it looked so full and seemed to be popular. Well, to our surprise it turned out to be really good! A big menu with all kinds of great food, certainly not just pie. Good service, reasonable prices, and nice sized portions. Now, the food was not organic, but for a place like this it was of pretty good quality. And the inside was somewhat modern and cool looking, at least compared to the outside. The only thing is that I wish the place was cleaner. We sat in a booth, and the window next to us was all dirty, and generally the place was not exactly sparkling like an eating establishment should be. But otherwise ours was a good experience and I will definitely go back, especially for a late night meal.

Been coming to house of pies for about 30 years and it use to be our place for the early bird special(Breakfast) Almost every holiday this was the stop for some pie. Now they are still hit in this changing area of Hollywood. Like to come for lunch or dinner for BLTA or Turkey sandwich. Prices are good and seating is cool Parking lot get full and you need to search on the surrounding streets

It reminds me of an old school marie calendars. We didn’t have any pie, we were there for breakfast/lunch and the food was really good. I had the veggie omelet with hashbrowns, and found the omelet to be prepared well. I finished it all, which is pretty good for me. There was a bit of a wait, but then it was Labor Day, a holiday. I thought the inside décor could use some big time revamping and new lighting. It was really dark in one part of the restaurant. I didn’t think very highly of our waitress, she was sporting and attitude, not very pleasant or congenial. It could have already been a long busy day for her, but I felt there was a bit of tone to her responses.

This review is only for the pies as I have never eaten from their regular menu. My mom has been buying the strawberry custard pies since as far as I can remember. The strawberry pies are humongous and so are the strawberries. The strawberry pies are consistently excellent. Strawberries are sweet, the custard and strawberry sauce is the right consistency and not overly sweet. My mom used to buy their pecan pies. I cannot comment on the pecan pies since I’m not found of them.

3.5 stars Long before Los Feliz Village was the mecca for fedora wearing hipsters and wannabes, there was House of Pies. It’s a classic diner, serving classic diner favorites. The menu is ordinary and the execution of food is mediocre, some items decent, others subpar and bland, but it is everything I would want and expect of an establishment of this nature. I would avoid anything on the menu that seems outside the nature of a diner. Stick with basic items like pancakes and eggs or chicken strips and you will not be disappointed. I once took a chance on a cobb salad and regretted it when the waiter plopped down a haphazardly assembled plate of wilted iceberg lettuce with borderline rotten cherry tomatoes. I found a stale french fry amongst the mess of lettuce, which I guess, was a bonus. Definitely come here for the pies(duh). I love the fresh strawberry custard. They have cheesecake as well and all classic flavors one would hope for. Service is very slow and not highly attentive. Be sure to get all the condiments you need when your food arrives, because you may never be checked on again. I like that they have their own parking lot(though the spaces are limited). The restaurant is huge with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and rarely is there a wait to be seated, except perhaps during weekend brunch or on special occasions.

I love House of Pies. Their breakfasts and Eggs Benedicts are outstanding. This last time I went I tried something totally decadent — the Monte Cristo sandwich. It was ham, turkey, cheese and then deep fried. I had skipped breakfast, and was starving. So my eyes were bigger than my stomach as they say. It looked so good on the menu. I took a bite of the Monte Cristo sandwich, and oh, wow — it was amazing. But it was so rich, with the bread being fried — but after about eating a fourth of the sandwich, I could hardly continue. I ended up ripping off the fried part of the rest of the bread, and eating only the meat. Thank heavens I ordered a fruit cup to go with it. Fries would have been too much. The House of Pies Monte Cristo sandwich is completely rich and decadent. Wow. I mentioned this to a friend, and all I could say was«It was too much. It was just too much.»
