Well damn, Karaōke at Busby’s East(yes, that’s what Hyperdrive is) used to be one of the 2 best places in town(Ground Control being the other), but it is not«that» Karaōke in the beautiful old ballroom with a small polite audience of singers. No, now it’s wedged into the corner of a bar. Bar Karoake is the worst, lower than even hotel lounge or cruise ship karaōke. If you’re ever in a cab and someone suggests it, feign a headache. The night will not be getting better; more embarrasing? yes, blackmail worthy? perhaps, but not better. That said this bar is missing a lot of the pitfalls that makes you wish you could roofie yourself. It’sa friendly bar and there’s not all that much«element»(people on/off/selling drugs, businessmen on a layover, escorts, etc.) and since no one is interested in singing, you can get in 15 songs and no one will care. The acoustics still suck, you still have to compete with bar noise, there is no atmosphere, and there are still drunks but these are the harmless variety. The bartenders are kind, and the place doesn’t smell. so yay. Facts: parking is free on Wilshire after 8pm. Karaōke is on Wed. & Sun. 10pm — 2am. It’s Free, but please tip. You’ll need an app, there are no books, and the DJ’s collection is in English.

OMFG, I’m so excited to be the first to review this. Why? Cos I’m doing you a favor, trust. Am I working for these people? No. Do I have a vested interest in seeing this place succeed? Yes. Cos if they go away then I won’t have a place to call my Karaōke home. I love this place, seriously. The song list was so huge it busted the binding of the book. Kevin the KJ is an all around good guy who doesn’t make me feel gross. The sound system is great. Celebrity Sighting(Seth McFardland!!!) and all around fun people. Good times. I love this place. I’m so lucky to have found it.
