Jan’s Hair Shop

I am so happy I discovered Jan’s Hair Shop. Luckily for me, I work in the Taft building, so it’s about as easy as it could possibly get for me to have her cut my hair! But on top of that, she is friendly and she knows what she is doing. She is passionate about cutting hair which makes a big difference. Her prices are more reasonable than almost any place I’ve ever been to. I highly recommend it and have always been happy with her haircuts, I haven’t gone anywhere else since I started going to her!

Jan’s Hair Shop is easy to miss. Less than five feet across, there is only room for a front door and an air conditioner to beckon customers in from the street. Stepping inside is disorienting at first. There is no front desk, no reception area, and no horde of gossiping barbers. Just a sixty year old barber’s chair, a sink, and Jan.
The chair is large and comfortable, the sink does its job, and Jan knows what she’s doing. She was able to give me a solid haircut in about fifteen minutes… perfect for my lunch break. During the cut, she told me a little bit about the history of the shop, and the days she works (Monday through Friday, but an occasional Wednesday off). It’s a nice break to get a haircut from the actual owner and sole employee of a shop, instead of somebody renting a chair or working for a large company.
I was able to walk in with no appointment, but due to the one-​chair nature of Jan’s operation, it’s wise to call in ahead of time. The cost was on par with a Cost-​cutters, but with much more personal service. And I can’t stress enough how awesome her chair is.
Considering the quality of her services, and the alternatives in the area, Jan’s Hair Shop is the perfect place to go for a quick trim if you’re working or hanging out in Hollywood. Highly recommended.
