I am so upset King King is closing. So many memories at the best house music dance venue ever !!! The many nights I danced my ass off to the best house legends and the many friends I have made. Can’t wait for this weekend to pay my final respects :(

We are so sad to see King King go! But before it does there will be a few more great events. On Wednesday Dec 16th, long time LA promo company The Codega is proud to host a night of incredible Live Music and a collection for Canned Food and unused toys. Music by Samuel J, The Dirty Diamonds, Trickster Guru, Psychedelic Tractor, Stephan Jacobs, Nesta and Leanna Rachel. Only $ 12 at the door! Or $ 5 with your can/toy donation.

I visited the King King for the first time this weekend. We went for a deep house party with a pretty well-known DJ. My review is for this event, as the space itself is pretty plain and I don’t really know about other line ups. The Deep party with DJ Marques Wyatt was fantastic. He got the party going — as he usually does — and kept the crowd dancing nonstop. It was a total blast!

We came here for the 2000s throwback night. I’m not really sure what kind of weird 2000s era the DJ lived in, but there was nothing fun or throwback-y about that night. My friends and I got there a few minutes before 10pm, the damn place wasn’t even opened. We waited a little bit, finally got into the empty club, and decided to get some drinks. $ 11 for a shot and $ 13 for a cocktail. I’m sorry, didn’t realize I was suddenly in Vegas. Once the crowd started filling the place up, my friends and I and people we were talking to came to the sudden realization that the music SUCKED. A few of us went up to the DJ to request some music — The people: Can we get some 2000s stuff? We did come here for throwback night or whatever. DJ: Sorry, I don’t take requests. We’re only playing underground 2000s music tonight. No commercial stuff. WHATTHEHELL. Bye forever, King King.

It’s supposed to be 2000s throwback night. We signed the RSVP. But it wasn’t what we expected and when my friends ask for a request of typical 2000s music the DJ shut them down saying«no commercials, no Britney music. «those are staples for that year. FALSEADVERTISING. Flipping drinks was so expensive

Came here to see the Chosen Few DJs(inventors of House music from Chicago) and had an incredible time. Danced all night with a lot of room and a great vibe with everyone else there. Even though it got crowded and there was a wait for drinks, it was cheap, had a great sound system and room to dance. Would definitely return.

What is with this generation?! You are at a club with a live DJ playing the best dance music around(went to go see Oscar L) and people prefer to stand around staring at the stage… am I missing something here because I came to shake my booty. That I did, into the wee hours of the night! Great sound, drinks were good, waiting at the bar took foooorrrrrreeeeevvvvvveeeeerrrr. As long as it took you to read that times forever. Bathrooms were clean, crowd was interesting, DJ was a beast!!, cover was $ 20 a person(RSVP online via the website for a discount), ample dance floor space, bar was a bit on the small side, some seating available once people started dropping off… guess they couldn’t hang. Overall, I had a great time. Was a bit hesitant upon walking up to this establishment from the sidewalk… why do they black out the windows? How about some cool artwork? It would look a lot more creative. FYI, the back entrance, via a parking lot, is where we entered. On a side note: I lost my ID there, emailed the venue, never heard back :/Bummer.

The entrance is around back to this Hollywood Blvd venue. The staff was friendly, helpful and professional. I attended a performance of David Bowie’s «Diamond Dogs“with live band and singers. Not much seating for a theatrical performance but I managed to get a seat at the bar. 2 drink minimum if you want to use your card. The best part of the show was the band and I wish they had been given more of a showcase. This was a performance of the work David Bowie, icon of thinness and male beauty, so I had a hard time with a couple of overweight actors. When I see the wearing of tights and black bootie shorts I wonder am I meant to be horrified or view this through that male mirror that tells him he looks awesome. The show was very Broadway rather than rock and roll. An interesting night out.

Came here to see a burlesque show w/the hubby. Fair warning, the entrance is around back in the parking lot($ 10 cash only). Bare walls and a limited beer selection, but it seems to lack the hipsters and silicone that can be found in other parts of the neighborhood. A bit overprices for VIP seating, but not a bad time overall.

I used to love this place. Now I enjoy coming here. Been coming here for about 7 years? 8 years? I still remember seeing a lot of house DJs over the years. I miss a lot of friends that I meet over the years. But sometimes it feels a little to pretentious. And hipsterish. Because house music is the thing now. This is real house music. Not the crap they play on the radio. So stop coming here you fake househeads! I don’t come every week like I used to years ago. But I am trying to come out more often. See you people there for Marques Wyatt. If you don’t know who that is. Stop coming here and stop listening to house music. You don’t belong.

Such a fun venue! I came here on a Saturday where Do LAB was featuring Mighty Mouse. This night was deep house and my friend who normally comes says she’d describe the music as «underground groovy house.» It definitely has a chill party vibe and I say it gets popping at like 1130pm/midnight. King King felt like a party you’d find in Venice because you have to enter through the back, lots of flower children, plenty of shufflers, and there was someone painting an amazing picture in the back. The venue is on the smaller side but isn’t packed like many of the other Hollywood clubs. It’s also pretty casual — no one was in heels. I was fine in jean shorts and a tank top. There’s $ 8 parking on Ivar and Selma if you don’t mind walking a couple of blocks. Plenty of $ 10 parking lots south of Hollywood Blvd.

A friend and I came here on Latin night not knowing what to expect from this place and we were pleasantly surprised. It was wonderful to hear local Latin bands in an intimate setting. I originally thought this place was a venue for bands but they also have DJs come in. I’d come back for anything. Rich’s recommendation: get a drink and enjoy the music.

Oh the memories – I’ve been here several times over the years. It’s unique in the sense that it somehow is able to keep it’s doors open despite its smallness in size. It’s «outside area» is the parking lot. The front door is on the backside and usually there some sort of cover charge depending on who’s playing. I’ve only been here when either a friend has played or it’s just been a house night. Its got an old school vibe – it’s small and more intimate. Good for drinks, some dancing and meeting all walks of people. Parking in the lot usually ranges from 20 – 25(yes it’s a rip off, but it’s better then getting a $ 70-$ 90 parking ticket or getting towed. Other option is über that would might be not necessarily be cheaper if you live too far away.

Your experience here really depends on the event/promoter/crowd that is hosting the evening at king king. I only go when there are house music focused events being put on by marques wyatt/deep, soul & tonic/adam auburn, or when drumcell/Droid Interface used to host techno here. This venue is also known to host events with breakdancers, and maybe a bit of goth/burlesque… So with that in mind, i dont just randomly stroll into this venue. I only come when i know whats happening for that evening. The sound system here is begging for an update. It’s pretty terrible for being a location that gets some of the best DJs coming thru. The bar staff is pretty quick & compared to its neighbors on hollywood blvd, the drinks are very fairly priced. The doormen here get you thru the line & security check very efficiently with an adequate level of courtesy. If you come here on a night hosted by Deep(marques wyatt), be ready to dance & maybe sweat. The crowds for those events are the best in town.

Came here to hear one of my favorite DJ’s(DJESTA, check him out!) … High ass ceilings, warehouse feel, and lots of open space. Very chill, comfortable, casual vibe. I don’t usually go to Hollywood cuz it’s usually pretty ratchet haha, but King King’s is pretty dope. Or maybe it’s the DJ who set the mood and brought the right crowd? Either way, it ALL worked very well together(the music, venue, people) that night so… I dig it.

If you are looking for great house music, and a vibe where everyone is up for a dance, then this is the place! The entrance is around the back and the entry fee was $ 15. I can here to see Golf Clap who had an amazing set. The venue is a large room with the bar at the back. The bouncers and bar staff were all super nice and I had a good chat with a few of them. It was an amazingly diverse group of people in the club. Everyone was just there to enjoy the music and dance. No one was self conscious or posing. they were all just there for a good night out. Drinks were reasonable — $ 9 for a mixed drink. Toilets were always clean and they have a coat check! I loved the music, vibe, affordable drinks, and friendly staff. Will defo be back again soon!

Hollywood venues have a rep of being… Hollywood-y. You know what I mean. But, when I’m King King, the vibe is really unpretentious and chill. Definitely one of my favorite venues. It’s definitely smaller & more intimate. Came here for LNA in ’13. The sound system was fine until Becky started singing. Lots of feedback and just sounded really… weird. I’m by no means a sound expert but I do know my tracks well enough to know that that screech wasn’t supposed to be there :) The DoLab is bringing in some really great talent in ’14 to King King. My January is booked up already. See you on the dance floor :)

This is a review for the 80’s night this past Friday. SO. MUCH. FUN!!! Came here wondering how it would be and left having a blast! Music was hyped up and spanned different genres of the 80’s, each and every song got me dancing! Reminded me once again that good music never dies. The place is pretty small but not crowded, you have enough space to do the Safety Dance. Drinks are expensive but not totally out of this world(it is Hollywood, after all). Bathrooms are clean, and the people are really cool! The entrance is actually in the back(weird) and there is parking, but I parked at Universal City and took the red line in(and the train doesn’t close until 2am! Sweet!). It can get a little cray cray after hours but I had no problem making it back home. PLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASE bring back the 80’s night! It’s hard enough finding clubs/venues that host these types of parties. I’m a «Back in the Day» kind of gal and with all the places playing dubstep/house(ew), 80s nights are a dime a dozen, but if they have these on the regular, I will be all over this like white on rice.

This place was exactly what I expected. A small hole in the wall Hollywood music venue. All the stereotypes were true. The big red building with parking in the rear(first born pricing) they do pre order tickets and day of. 21+ club with an almost makeshift bar. I say that because with 2 bartenders and 1 bar back taking orders when not busy) they could not keep up with an very liquored up 100 person crowd as far as drinks. 15 – 20 minute wait for about an hour. They have a 2nd bar, but no staff working it. Prices are cheap for the area, but expensive for a beer with a tiny selection. The mini bar in the hotel may have more beer to choose from. It’s a single room, red walled inside and out place that looks like an old restaurant. Granted it’s a basic stage(a little rickety) and speaker set up they do have some video projection and are weak on security. Bathroom is cleanish, but wide open(crazy small mens stall vs. handicapped). Little to no sound bellows through the entrance hallway which is good and means some good soundproofing and redirection. Bass could be louder. Shows here are generally easy to book and cheap. The parking lot in the rear is expensive and tends to be a bit of a hangout instead of around the corner in their makeshift waiting/staging/smoking area. The couches would be a nice touch for a less rowdy show, but just got in the way. Something about the color reminds me of Hellboy.

Came here for a POLE dance event. I didn’t feel like paying $ 75 for VIP seating. We got the $ 30 regular seats. The line was long and by the time we got inside, there weren’t any seats left nor any«standing room» good enough to see the performances. Me and the girls decided to hop on what looked like big music equipment at the corner by the bathroom. And VOILA… our own makeshift VIP seating. The security saw us sitting there and let us stay there the entire night which was cool. Thank you =) The girls got Long Island iced teas for $ 12 each. I wanted to do something fancy and got myself a cocktail for $ 15 and it was half the size of the iced teas. And I split half of it during my walk over to our spot from the bar. Ugh… did I regret ordering it! The show was great and really enjoyed myself otherwise. We parked on the street for free.
