Truly incredible modern/pop art pieces. Walk in if only to see the unbelievable all leather(yup) large-scale recreation of a famous painting of Napoleon. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to be a millionaire.

Help destroy street art. Become a patron, or an artist, at this establishment. Want a bad taste in your mouth? Talk to the owner. A minute or less is enough to feel his insincerity.

I’ve been wanting to go here ever since stumbling upon their Instagram: labartlosangeles. After reading the reviews about the sketchy hours, I called ahead of time to make sure they were open. On the corner of La Brea &2nd, there is an easily accessible parking garage right off of 2nd next to a little café. The parking garage itself is actually a great piece of art, splattered with a giant Shepard Fairey piece. The gallery itself is impressive & exactly what I expected. It is spacious & doesn’t have too much crammed into one spot so it lets you really enjoy the piece in front of you. I just wish that paintings listed the name of the artist so I could follow their work more closely. By the way– this place is free! If you have some time to spare & dig street art, I definitely recommend coming here.

I really wanted to give this place a 5 star review because the art is off the hook but, you’re only as good as your last experience. I mean, yeah, it’s free. But we went to on a Saturday which is supposed to close at 4. So it got me pretty heated when it was closed at 3. It’s not like this place is very close to me. I mean, it kinda is(under 20 miles). But when the whole purpose of driving the 20 miles is to go to that one art gallery only to have it closed without any other notices whatsoever, is a major let down. We even went to other stores and came back with nothing changed. When it is open though, it’s really dope. The owner lets you take pics of everything. I heard that the owner doesn’t display any art pieces that aren’t valued at least $ 2k. So taking home any pieces is just gonna have to be nothing short of a dream. All in all, major art blue balls tho.

Drove from Santa Monica… again. Made sure they were open… again. Walked up and the door had a sign on it that said«Be Back in 10 Minutes» Ok, bummer but not a big deal. I still really wanted to check this place out. Walked to Starbucks 3 blocks away, had a coffee there. Checked out Undefeated on the way back and guess what? 40 minutes later the«Be Back in 10 Minutes» sign was still up. ugh.

Been here twice and I will be back. I like the fact that its free art show. Also helps that I like the type of art they have on display. Only problem for me is that I cant afford any of the art pieces.

I came to this place for a Creativity heals charity event. It was very cool to see all the artwork and performers that particular night. The building itself was not ventilated so it got stuffy as more people came in, but I definitely enjoyed the experience. If I had the money to bid on the amazing art work I would have, but I’m poor. Haha. There’s a parking structure close by, and plenty of parking on the street and in the residential neighborhood right behind the place. Basically, my «San Diegan» husband summed up the place as «VERYLA», which is just what I like.

Art kills artists. It is true, look it up. It exists. *winks at Suavi. My parents raised me to get as much education as possible. To travel and learn from the world; to never look through rose colored lenses. And to appreciate art, art in all forms. It is up to the individual to ascertain what is and what isn’t art. No one person can judge you for believing something is great. Unless, that is hummus of course. Hummus is just disgusting. Anyways… I was at Lab Art today for a charity auction benefit. A charity benefit for children that have a hard time growing up and for them to channel art as a capsule for their afflictions. I like this. A vibrant, young, beautiful, charismatic, well spoken, little lady named Jenny told me about her organization. She inspired me as much as the art that was for sale. When I told her of my aversion to large crowds and how I would like to bid on some pieces but was afraid that the crowd would be too much… She was gracious enough to tell me to give her my phone number and that she would call me later if I won. I said I would have to think about it. I ended up going back and donating the $ 30 dollar bidding fee because I believe in her, her desire to help, and her organization. Even tho I knew I wouldn’t be able to stay throughout the bidding. Oh, and Lab Art? Amazing art, great friendly staff, and from me Big thanks. Thanks for hosting Jenny ’ s organization: Creativity Heals.

i really liked this gallery. it sort of reminded me of the Art in the Streets show from a few years ago, only solely focusing on current LA street artists.(just to be clear they had non street art or street art styled stuff there as well) the space is HUGE, the environment is totally not pretentious, after one visit I feel like this is a place I’m going to keep on top of as i imagine i’ll get exposed to a lot of awesome stuff.

Lab Art is one of the best galleries in Los Angeles. Not only is the owner Iskander such a nice person, but the artists he rep are all top of the notch. Lab Art throws the best art parties, and makes the community feel like a big family.

I’m on the fence with this establishment. I respectfully agree with some of the other reviewer’s assessments regarding the space providing a forum for street art. Including the notion that the venue is still«finding it’s grove». To date, they have even decided to incorporate live streaming music as a featured event. But if I may speak candidly, lately I’ve been having trouble classifying whether this is an art gallery that provides a platform for recognizing the creative power of fresh talent and individuality… or an art installation trying to mimic a finicky night club drenched in autocratic exclusivity and complex. It certainly has enough stoned-faced, overbearing, security personnel scowling over the guests to give off that impression sometimes. This presence makes it pretty difficult for the people who just want to enjoy the art and take in the environment. It’s a gallery… not A Night at the Roxbury. Lighten up.

LABART had an all female installation that I enjoyed on a sunny weekday afternoon. The gallery is very, very spacious! The first room from the entrance had pieces from floor to ceiling! I had never seen so much artwork hung so high. I was amazed yet a little sadden because I couldn’t see the pieces up front and see the texture, which is my favorite part of media on canvas! Also, the pieces were grouped by artist but it looked too cluttered. They have gigantic walls to fill but a little more effort in placement would be nice! There is a little section area in between the large and medium rooms that also features pieces. The medium room was really sunny, so there might have been a sun roof of some sort, but I forgot to look up to check. At the very end of the gallery there is a fourth section that also had art! It was a back room that was darker in comparison to the medium room. When I visited, the gallery had just opened a couple months back, so they were probably still figuring out their groove. I wouldn’t count this place out yet!

I was just here for Jules Muck’s show and was blown away. The vibe rocks, perfect place to display great street art. Jules Muck’s exhibit was amazing, there was a rocking party with a DJ and open bar, and a house that was built in the middle of the gallery which Muck painted the walls of right there while rocking out to music and hanging out with the crowd. I’ve never seen anything like that. That was the opening reception for Muck This House, and I definitely plan to go back for the closing reception on May 12. Beyond seeing Jules Muck’s awe inspiring work, I think I will be stopping by anytime I happen to be passing to see what’s new in this gallery.

Art Lab has plenty of space(which looks like the remnants of a Mexican restaurant) so they present a number of artists. But, I guess this place just isn’t for me. It’s not really the gallery space, but that it only displays«street art». This sort of figures since I prefer sit down restaurants over«street food», pick shopping centers over«street fairs», like betting on horse races rather than«street races», and enjoy strippers over«street walkers». For me, «street» seems synonymous with subpar.

I def have enjoyed my trips to lab art, they put on some really good shows and feature a ton of up and coming street artists. Most of the shows I’ve been to there have been themed. This last one was fixed gear bikes with each artist painting them in their own style. I loved the concept but most of all loved the Thank You X bike which was sawn in half and welded back together plus painted. It was by far the most creative of the bikes. The pricing on some of the pieces is a tad high I have to say, as a lot of these street artists aren’t established enough in my opinion to be fetching such prices similar to those of the low brow art scene that have been around for years. Also I noticed some of the pieces were obviously just done on the computer, printed out and adhered to a piece of wood or something of that nature. To me that’s not really that creative, I’d rather see true art painted by hand. But this isn’t really about critiquing individual artists, it’s about the gallery overall. And they do do a great job of putting on a show, the place has plenty to look at, and they always have some nice refreshments on opening night. If you’re just starting out collecting art, this would be a good place to pick up a few first pieces as far as street art go, but do your research first. I would recommend Becca and Thank You X.

This gallery is phenomenal. It’s the fine art version of the street art scene. The people who work there are friendly and accessible — no condescension at all. Just people who understand & love art. The collection is really excellent. A great mix of established and emerging contemporary street artists. There is a great range of prices — you can actually purchase a quality piece of art without sacrificing junior’s college savings. Check this place out if you love art. You will be glad you did.

I really like this gallery. I just came to interview Jules Muck who was painting live in the space and was blown away by the artists in the current show. They have pretty much every great young LA street artist in the the space right now, so please go soon. Plus, if you just turn onto any residential street other than La Brea you’ll find free parking.

When you walk into Lab Art, it’s tough to figure out what you’re more taken by: the space, or the art. You truly need to see it to believe it. It’s an inviting space, and the collections are second to none. Not to mention, the help is fantastic — super nice, and incredibly knowledgable. If you’re in to art, and appreciate the street movement, it’s a must see.

Awesome place! They have a really nice gallery and the people who work there are awesome! They have many paintings and artwork to show for the huge space they have in the place and i would take anyone here if they wanted to take a look at some good art! I would just like to mention that today I saw the owner at the Golden Apple, and he happened to snatch Destroy All Design’s spray can right from under my nose haha it was pretty funny :) definitely awesome guy though. no hard feelings whatsoever. CHECKITOUT!!!
