The dinner specials were an insane deal and the personality of the servers was one of a kind. So sad to see this place go…
I remember I used to park in the handicap parking spot until the dude was like, «don’t park there, i’ve seen them ticket that spot,» and then, he would answer the phone with crazy accents whenever I would call.
What the eff. ..

Hate to say it but as a Chinese man who has had good meals here previously… It appears either new owners, new cooks, or both– food has severely gone downhill and while non Asians may not notice, the quality and cooking is no longer the same.
Tonight we had Pan Fried Noodles w/​pork and bean sprouts– heavy use of corn starch as a thickener with globs of corn starch «goo» that only an amateur cook would send out to a customer. Same thing with Salty Fish Tofu (which barely had any salty fish at all… Literally none!) Bitter Melon with Beef was good but portion was extremely small. Steamed chicken (bok jum gai) was tasteless, and the ginger onion sauce was puréed (not diced as normal Chinese serve) and had no oil or onion– clearly prepared by someone not familiar with how the dish is prepared.
That’s not all– our waitress left and went home without notice. Leaving the bus boy as the only server in the place. Highly disappointed and won’t be back… There’s way too many other great Chinese spots in LA to waste money and friends eating amateur wanna be Chinese food… Even Panda doesn’t serve food this badly prepared. Read all the other complaints… After dinner walked by all the neighboring restaurants — all had crowds… Unlike Little HK (only one other table besides ours)… Unless they make a change– they are headed towards closure. :(

I came here on a Wednesday night and it wasn’t too busy there were only two other customers in the restaurant, which should have been a red flag that this place was not serving good food. Other restaurants in the sawtelle area are usually pretty busy and have lines out the door, but hey i was tired of walking around and just wanted to eat dinner with my friends.
The staff was friendly enough and handed us menus and waters as we sat down. Seeing as how we were one of their few customers in the restaurant we were served food pretty quickly, but its all really downhill from there. We ordered 4 entres all of which came out with speed. The walnut shrimp was extremely subpar, it was mostly over battered tempura sauce and then a little bit of shrimp under the massively over fried batter definitely would NOT recommend ordering this again. The walnuts tasted stale — and the entire dish looked terrible and tasted as such. The tangerine chicken was alright — although it wasn’t anything to call home about. Once again the chicken was covered in batter and doused in an extremely sugary sauce — not sure how authentic chinese cooking this is. The sea food pan fried noodles were OK, but i have definitely eaten better. There was plenty of seafood but the dish was pretty oily. We also got a side of bok choy with oyster mushrooms. The dish came out slightly cold which is kind of a big concern given that there were only one other set of people sitting in the restaurant… how the heck does a dish cool down so fast? The bok choy was doused in a really salty sauce — think oyster sauce add in a a gallon of salt…
Overall I would not come here again for authentic asian food. Its quite sad how much the quality of food has degraded in this place — as I used to come here 5 years ago when i was in college and the food tasted fantastic.

Overall, the food is fairly price to feed a big party. Not the greatest Chinese food, but it did the job. Unfortunately, they didn’t get our order right even though we repeated the order to them 3 times. Oh well…
I am surprised this place doesn’t have any paper plates, but they were very accommodating and gave us a bunch of take out boxes.
We ordered:
1) Veggie egg rolls: ³⁄₅
2) Walnut shrimp: ³⁄₅
3) Mongolian beef: ³⁄₅
4) Chicken Chow fun: ³⁄₅
5) Stir-​fried veggie: ³⁄₅

Def will not be something I will be craving.

Best Chinese food in West L.A. It costs a bit more than Hop Woo or Lin’s but it’s a definite step up in quality. I’ve been coming here for years as my office is a 5 minute walk away. I’ve tried several dishes and none have disappointed, but I keep going back to the Peking style shrimp (sweet and sour with lots of garlic and served with a side of pickled cabbage) and the tangerine beef. Service has been excellent every time I’ve eaten here (especially you, Danny!).
Although I usually eat here at lunch and walk from the office, a few times I’ve had to suffer through the parking lot in the strip mall where the restaurant is located. The lot is very poorly operated. Park on the street if you can find a spot.

We ordered food to go, and it was such a bummer. Green beans with garlic were meh, the house fried rice had NO flavor, the tangerine chicken was probably the best thing we ordered, but panda’s orange chicken is way better! We also had the pan fried noodles which were so-​so as well.
I can’t find a chinese food take-​out that is half way decent on the west side!!! I know this is Hong Kong/​Cantonese style, but thought it was worth a try. Should have known better when we picked up our food friday night and there was NOBODY else in there.
Maybe we’ll try Hop Li’s again. sigh…

I love this place. I have loved it since I first came here years ago and tasted it their fried wings. I know the quality of dishes may vary depending on what you get. But I know what I like and stick to those and hasn’t been failed yet.
They’re usually pretty slow so plenty of seating.
Mao po tofu and fried chicken wings are delicious

This place is a lifesaver when I am on the Westside and suddenly have a craving for Chinese food late at night.
I have been in the shopping center where the restaurant is located but always overlooked it because it was tucked away in the end and overshadowed by the crowds of people at Tatsu Ramen.
I only found this place on Unilocal when I searched for noodles when I was in the area.
My friend and I arrived 20 minutes prior to closing and they were nice to let us sit down right away. Another party of 4 or 5 arrived almost at closing time along with someone for to-​go orders and we were all promptly served.
The menu is extensive with nothing specialized, they have everything from noodle soups, to fried rice, to meat dishes. Prices are more than reasonable for the area as almost everything is under $ 12.
There is a section of their specials, and it comes with a free bowl of hot and sour soup (love it), a bowl of rice, and a spring roll.
I ordered the Mongolian Beef under the specials and my friend got the Mafo Tofu.
She had to order rice separately and thus they just gave us an entire large container of rice. My hot and sour soup was surprisingly delicious! I thought it was either going to be too watery, too spicy or too sour, but it was a perfect balance of everything. Did not expect this of a Chinese restaurant that is not located in the San Gabriel Valley.
My mongolian beef however was just mediocre, there were not that many pieces of beef and lots of large onion, which I actually did not mind because I wanted to eat more vegetables than meat since it was late at night.
There was not enough spice to the dish for me so I asked for hot sauce on the side.
My friend enjoyed her mafo tofu, she said its not the best ever, but more than acceptable just to satisfy her cravings.
Our waiters were very nice and did everything quickly because they probably wanted to get rid of us and finally go home.
I would come back to this place if I am ever in the area again and want some Chinese food, but would not be a destination place to satisfy my hunger. Four Stars just for being open so late and for offering a wide selection of Chinese food.

This place is probably 3 — 3 ½ stars. It’s a good go-​to place if you want Cantonese food in West LA. Their eggplant and beef is very good though! I would highly recommend that dish. Their pan fried noodle and string beans were ok.
Prices are ok. Parking is terrible though because it’s located in the Sawtelle area. There’s street parking in the neighborhoods.

Back in the days when Sawtelle was not as hip as it is now, this was one of the places that was always packed.
I finally got a chance to go back yesterday and try to see if their House Pan Fried Noodles and Pork in Salt and Pepper were as good as i remembered. The House Pan Fried noodles were doused with the black pepper sauce and was a bit too sweet. And the usually amazing Pork in Salt and Pepper which is to be honest is hard to screw up came up tasteless and no spice whatsoever.
No longer were the days when I literally craved for this when i’m in town.
No wonder when we showed up for lunch the whole place was empty.
Hopefully they realize this before they are taken over by another hip trendy new concept restaurant.

Sufficed to curb my craving for Chinese food, but nothing worth raving about. The menu is comprehensive, but I wasn’t particularly impressed by any of the selections.
I ended up ordering a shrimp and black pepper sauce chow fun. In reality, it was just boiled chow fun drenched in a thick brown sauce. They hadn’t even bothered to stir-​fry the chow fun with the sauce…
What they lack for in quality though, they attempt to make up for in size… at least partially. The portions are huge, and can definitely be split over at least 2 – 3 meals (unless you are me).
Given the huge variety of Asian restaurants in the neighborhood, it is a wonder that the Little Hong Kong café is still standing.

I’ve gone to Hop Li and decided perhaps it’s time to try Hong Kong Café. I definitely miss Cantonese café food and it would be nice to not always drive out to SG area.
So. as many people have stated. this place is a bit pricey for what you get. I got the pan fried noodles with fish filet in black bean sauce. It was okay. not really that great. Too much sauce that it made the noodles all soggy. Also tried the eggplant in fish sauce. normally it is very good, this seemed like it was in black bean sauce and equally soggy.
Maybe I’ll try again. it’s definitely an alternative to the sushi and ramen places offered on this street.

I’m trying really hard to find something positive to say about little Hong Kong. I have given them multiple chances to keep me coming but I have given up.
Their menu is very extensive. I would stick to ordering Mongolian beef, walnut shrimp, or beef and broccoli.
The service here is nonexistent. When I pick up my food, I immediately regret ordering it due to the very rude Chinese guy at the register.

Ass food with ass service. This place is kinda like Panda Express to me: I forget how bad it is after a while and I trick myself into going back.
Main ingredient: Salt.
Oh, and have yourself a nice walk down Rape Alley if you wanna use their filthy restroom out back.
LA is a big city, there is NO REASON for you to eat here. I have no idea why I’m here right now.

The place opens at 11 am on Saturday but the food didn’t come out until 11:35 am. We are the only table in the whole restaurant.
If you are looking for the legit Hong Kong milk tea, you won’t find them here. Go somewhere else.
The food is decent and parking is fine if you come early. Don’t sit on the bench because the leather is all torn.

Little Hong Kong Café serves okay Chinese food, but it deserves an extra star for pricing and service.
Bf and I ordered the shrimp omelette and chicken with asparagus. The dishes came with complimentary rice for $ 20+.

I came here just because I wanted something to eat that wasn’t Japanese. I mean, Sawtelle is predominantly Japanese food. If you want real Chinese food go to Monterey Park, but this will do in the area.
It was just me and three other parties there so order and cook time wasn’t long at all.
I ordered the garlic calamari, which was exceptional (would order again), and the pan fried beef (average). The noodles were delicious, but the sauce could have been much better.
Would I come back? Yes, for the garlic calamari and to give another item on the menu a chance.

Little Hong Kong Café really is one of the better quality Chinese food places around the area. They do charge a couple/​few more dollars per dish, so it has to be better quality to offset its price, right?
I tried their tangerine chicken (reminds me of The Big Bang Theory when the group eats Chinese food), tomato beef pan fried noodles, and Chinese broccoli.
Their tangerine chicken was very tasty. Eat it right away when it’s still crispy and when the chicken is still soft/​tender/​perfectly cooked. It doesn’t taste as good half an hour later or the day after though, but I was impressed by its quality.
Usually when I get tomato beef related chow mein dishes, I don’t care about the beef and I’m all into the tomato and the noodles because the beef is usually bad quality, but it’s decent to good quality beef at this little Hong Kong café. What a surprise! Yet again, the dish is more expensive than Hop Li’s dish.
The Chinese broccoli in oyster sauce was alright. I didn’t choose the dish, but I did need my veggies. The flavor was alright, but there was this aftertaste that I didn’t like.
I would have given this place four stars, but decided to drop a star after finding a piece of slightly gray hair in the noodle dish.
THe mirrors at this place annoyed me. Not into the atmosphere that well, but I would go back for their tangerine chicken.
