«Met this lil lady, she was fresh from the I. She smelled like bagoong, it almost made me cry. I said to her head«Do you eat billy goat?» She looked at me and said«No. Only balut.» I’m a Filipino, I’m a Filipino. My hair is so high. My, my, my.”-«I’m a Filipino», 3 Local Boyz Turo turo = Point point at what you want want Discovered this place while looking for someplace to eat during my many f/u visits to the bone marrow transplant unit on the eight floor of Kaiser Permanente on 1515 N Vermont. Inexpensive, ready made Filipino food for a quick meal is what Little Ongpin is all about. Interior-wise, not someplace to impress a date. No A/C to beat the heat. However, cheap entrée combinations are the calling card for Little Ongpin. Adobo, dinuguan, menudo, bistek, mochado, pried pish & the rest of the usual suspects are well represented. Want hot buns in your hands? I know I do! Steamed siopao are $ 1.75 each or 12/$ 20 I’ve had their beef lomi soup & have enjoyed it. Ditto for their pancit miki-bihon. You’re in for a real treat during the weekends, where traditional Filipino breakfast items greet those that stumble out of bed to come here. If dried herring, smoked galunggong, longanisa, corned beef & champorado sound good to you, then breakfast is served, manang! Service has been okay. A few booths available to enjoy your meal, with a flatscreen having Filipino news, game shows or the trending telenovela for your viewing pleasure. Parking is street & residential in the surrounding area. Flip out for Filipino food, in Little Armenia of all places. Why not? Cheap prices on entrée combinations, with breakfast on the weekend will keep the Filipinos coming like a liquidation sale on Spam. And non-Filipinos that enjoy Filipino food, too! You can go to Kaiser Permanente for your high blood pressure & cholesterol, and afterwards, come here to maintain said high blood pressure & cholesterol. Win win! Recommend! Imagine my surprise when I was driving by and noticed this Filipino restaurant. I’ve been to the location in Eagle Rock and in Historic Filipino Town on the outskirts of downtown and so I’m no stranger to this eatery and it’s offerings. They also have the same«turo-turo» style dining or «point-point» where you can get 1, 2 or 3 entrees with two scoops of steamed white rice. This time I had what is known as dinuguan or as we used to call it as kids, «chocolate meat». It was very good. For my second entrée, I had the beef caldereta which is a tomato-based stew with chunks of beef, bell peppers, peas, and potatoes. It was tasty as well! I also had a craving for chicken siopao, which is a steamed bun with meat inside. It comes with a sweet brown sauce and this was on point as well. They sell the siopao for $ 1.75 each or 12 for $ 20 which discounts it to about $ 1.67 each when you buy it in bulk. In addition, they have steamed siomai ready to go which is a steamed dumpling as well as a few Filipino desserts like bibingka, a rice cake, and turon, deep fried banana wrapped in an egg roll wrapper with a sweet sticky coating. I’ll have to try some of the noodles that they are known for sometime in the future. Glad I saw this because it’s a great place to get relatively cheap Filipino cuisine.

They get the four stars cause on the phone she was rude and then fine in person. She asked the name and I kept saying it three times. And then she says why are You yelling. Hello you asked me three times. It’s like you can’t hear me. UGH But the pancit canton($ 6.00) is fresh when you pre-order. The other food are good.(Just make sure you go in the morning cause you know Its fresh and by the end of the day you don’t know how long it’s been sitting there but then again that is at all point-point restaurants). The diniguon is pretty good, menudo is yum and also the coconut milk chicken. Parking is on the street and you either pay Id in front or on the side there is resident parking but make sure you check the signs.

The food is very good, very authentic native Filipino! The servers are very nice. But I have to kindly ask the owner of this restaurant to at least make their dinning room or the restaurant itself more presentable!

Miki-bihon is better known as my nostalgic childhood food. I love this place because it’s true Filipino cuisine. I’ve tried about everything but their diniguan is my favorite of all time. I like to compare siopaos with Kowloon and Ongpin but I think Ongpin wins on that one. I love their breakfast on the weekend! Make sure to take a gander and taste on that.

I hope I’m not disclosing too much, but this place is 5 minutes from my house. Little Ongpin is greasy spoon, down home authentic turo-turo(point-point) Filipino food. Their pancit here is good, not too oily and has some good flavor. You can special order a lot of their items they don’t normally have in their steam trays if you call ahead. All their fried stuff is… well, what can I say. You can’t go wrong with fried. Just don’t eat too much or your cholesterol levels will get you put on Lipitor. I’ve seen their health dept. rating fluctuate over the years between a C(for clean lol) and B. What can you do with the fryolator being the main cooking appliance, right? That oil just goes EVERYWHERE. Just get your food to go like all the Kaiser employees do and you’ll be just fine. Good, cheap, Filipino food. Make it part of a balanced diet.

Best noodles in Los Angeles! our high school friends call this place home. Every time we speak about Filipino food in Los Angeles, for now hands down to the chef for keeping that authentic taste. I grew up in Echo Park as a low income family. Little Ongpin was the back kitchen sitting in the corner of Beverly Blvd and Union in Echo Park. Many youth who grew up around this neighborhood called this place home. Belmont High School and Virgil Jr High School alumni will tell you who makes the best noodles in LA. Serving the Echo Park neighborhood for almost 30 years. Ongpin means a suburb in the Phillipines where the Chinese community local farmers markets sits. Here you’ll find indoor/outdoor eatery. This is a togo and can sit approx 20 people. It is a very small place serving great quality authentic chinese noodles and dim sum. about a half mile away from Downtown Los Angeles, China Town and Little Tokyo. My childhood lives here forever… Little Ongpin gives that vibe as if you were back in the Phillipines with that raunchy feel of an out door/indoor surburbs market eatery yet servicing LA as one of the best authentic Chinese food. Ask the Belmont/Virgil alumnis who make the best noodles and siopao in Los Angeles. other surrounding suggested eatery: The World famous Tommy’s(original location) Beverly and Rampart Bahay Kubo authentic Filipino cuisine on Temple and Parkview Bernie’s BBQ on Glendale and 1st st.

If you love authentic home cooking filipino food, this is the place to go. they’re known for their lomi which is very delicious. They also have maki, lechon, pancil palabok and mami. However, i thought the food had a bit too much MSG. But if you’re craving for some home cooking food, this is the place to go. They have a lot of authentic filipino food that is hard to find here in the US.

really cheap food! The chicken teriyaki is good and they hook up the rice. but sometimes i don’t know what to get when there’s no chicken teriyaki. i tried the tripe once and didn’t like it. I recommend to get the food ‘to go.’ that place is not clean at all.
