Horrible food, with service to match. Bad quality of food, cook to no taste perfection. If I could give it negative stars I would.

Yo, 23rd Street Café, I’m really happy for you, I’ma let you finish, but Lucy’s Drive in has one of the best bacon breakfast burritos of all time. One of the best bacon breakfast burritos of all time! Christ, where do I start? First, the overall size of the thing, perfect. Tortilla, boom, delicious. The eggs, soft and tasty, prepared perfectly. Potatoes, perfect ratio to the rest of the bad boy, savory and with the most subtle of crunchiness. The bacon, LORDTHATBACON, cooked perfectly and again, I can’t stress this enough, has the perfect ratio to the rest of the burrito. Same goes to the cheese, just cheesy enough to bind everything together like the tangy, heavenly mortar that it is. If you don’t get it with the lettuce and tomatoes, you’re a god damn fool, because that shit brings it all together with a refreshing bite. Order extra salsa on the side and utilize the complimentary tortilla chips as tiny edible improvised salsa delivery vehicles. Shovel that shit onto each bite. The best all around breakfast burrito I have ever had. Nothing crazy, no frills, just great ingredients expertly cooked and put together to make for a carefully crafted, balanced breakfast capsule.

Old school restaurant that’s been around for at least 4 decades, this is where the Partridge Family style bus was parked for many many years. I’ve been coming to eat here since the early 80’s and they still serve my favorite #1 plate Chile Relleno. This place is open 24 hours and the ladies at the take out window have always been friendly. It’s always a custom to leave your spare change at the order window as a tip, we’ve been doing that for decades.

Late night food can’t really get much better. Decently priced, would definitely recommend the chicken quesadillas. Maria is awesome — we’ve become good friends with her over the past year given the number of times we come to this drive in

It’s okay. I come here as a last resort when my usual taco joints are super packed. I get the carne asada tacos/burritos here and they’re just okay nothing special. The salsa/sauce is good and decent. The only thing I LOVE here is there shrimp ceviche on tostada and fish ceviche. Everything I tried was just decent and nothing out of this world. The meat quality doesn’t taste too good and sometimes has this smell(meat smell). Can’t complain since it doesn’t take too long. The place is sort of sketchy since the seating area is outside but is ok to get a quick bite to eat.

All black people don’t like onions, peppers, & hot sauce. This man needs help help it took a minute I don’t know if he’s the man cooking the food but my food wasn’t cooked all the way it was red. I hate onions. It would be good if he took care of me then put the order in then went to the next person.

Today I tried out their chicken taquitos and they are also bomb! They were nice and crunchy on the outside and were topped with some cheese and guacamole. Yum!

Go to meal is the breakfast #2 which comes with scrambled eggs your choice of(bacon, ham, sausage) hash browns and toast, not only is it delicious but its less then $ 5.00 dollars. Very inexpensive and large portions. The have a lot of choices to pick from i.e.; tacos, burgers, tamales, pupusas and well too many to name! LOL! The parking lot is small so just be mindful where you park. They have a drive-thru and they also accept credit/debit cards.

I asked cook if he could make some eggs with veggies. He said they just serve what is on the menu. I ended up just ordering scrambled eggs and a side of avocado. The meal was very plain. Nothing to exciting wished they would take in consideration vegetarians and pescatarians and offer veggies like onions or spinach. Just glad that they served scrambled eggs all days. They have a restroom available.

Was stuck in K town and hungry. Ended up here for a quick bite before the freeway. I had a beef soft taco and a tamale and then fries and a coke. Wow it was really tasty. The taco was so good and good meat. Not chewy or tough. The salsa is good and a nice flavor to heat. Really liked this place. Tamale is next. ;)

Lucy’s Drive-In is the real deal. This drive-in is in the heart of smoggy, stark, racialist and impoverished L.A. on the corner where Washington meets Bonnie Brae and Hoover Streets in the neighbourhood of Pico-Union/USC/El Salvador Corridor at the confluence of the 10 and the 110 Freeways. Yes, ladies and gentleman, Los Angeles does exist in real life. Discover it, if you please, for the first time over lunch. Order some pupusas, some tamales and maybe an horchata or a tamarind drink? The French fries are excellent as well. Sit on the picnic tables provided for you. You’ve got it made in the shade with lemonade. Palm trees above and Pep Boys Auto Parts across the street with plenty of lavanderias and used car lots and poverty to ogle. This is the good hood. People here work for a living; salt of the earth folks. You thought you were reading about food but get ready for an unending rant on socioeconomic and racist peril in ghettoised and segregated .! Are you an upper middle class, twenty-something to forty-something year old with white privilege and white guilt and maybe some new products from Apple? If you grew up in Los Angeles and you don’t speak more than a lick of high school Spanish and you don’t take public transit out of necessity and you have an iphone in your hand right now opened to this Unilocal app and you’ve gotten every materialistic thing you’ve ever wanted from your NBC executive parents … then chances are … unless you attend film studies at the University of Southern California, you’ve got no idea what the fuck L.A. is. Los Angeles is where people live, breathe and struggle to survive. Los Angeles is a community where people probably cannot afford the time or money to be on Unilocal and may or may not know where or how they’ll find enough money to cook their next supper let alone try to find the newest Korean taco truck. L.A. is where the sidewalks are crumbling. L.A. is where the roads are eaten up by the roots of dead trees. L.A. is where you don’t wear certain coloured clothing for fear of being shot. This is where the police turn a blind eye to gangsterism and violence and simply barricade, erect fences and block off streets in order to dead-end crime yet end up dead-ending communities instead; this is where the injustices of modern segregation in the Fascist States of America are exposed to the unflattering light of day. This is where people have no universal healthcare. This is where No Child Left Behind fails, gives up, disappears and leaves all the children behind. Failing arbitrary yet mandatory standardised exams equals failing grades equals failing schools that are shuttered and left to crumble just like the children for whom an education is more like learning from the streets. The streets are not a good classroom. This is where you see the contrast which is clearly cast from the glittering fool’s gold that paves the more opulent enclaves of the city along Rodeo and Beverly to the West. This is where gunshots ring out at night which serve also to calibrate the rhythm of an infant’s lullaby. This is where the deafening screams of American greed and decay fall on deaf ears. Los Angeles is where America gets her soldiers from, she takes them and sends them to Afghanistan and Iraq to die a pointless death. If you get shot — they’ll give you a green card. If you get killed — everybody in your family gets a fucking green card! Los Angeles is expendable; an expendable and continuous supply of undereducated and malnourished and impoverished children who the rich send as cannon fodder to die in vain for foreign petroleum and empty riches. From the Gospel of Matthew: «I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.» People know this here and they believe it. Unfortunately, this isn’t the kingdom of God but instead the kingdom of greed, money and Babylon. People here know the value of a dollar and in spite of sometimes not having one red cent to their name — they still know that money isn’t everything. But it is something and the people that don’t have it… really need it. People have to eat. This is the real L.A. This always was Los Angeles and always will be Los Angeles. We are living on borrowed time and stolen resources. Do you know the real Los Angeles or only Hollywood? White pride begets white privilege which begets white guilt. Enjoy your lunch and know that little by little and one by one… we can each help to make a difference. Find a grassroots community organisation to volunteer with or donate to. Madres de Este Los Angeles or Mothers of East Los Angeles has been helping people since 1986 in many capacities and Sí Se Puede or Yes We Can is another excellent group that offers subsidised tutoring for schoolchildren in impoverished and underprivileged communities in Los Angeles County. Together we can change!

@ 10:15 pm i did i quick stop to Lucys Drive-In, My order was simple and now has turned into a nightmare, im hungry and upset. My order was simple 1 veggie burrito w/salsa on the side, 1 chillie cheese fries w/cheese ONLY… Of the bat i knew something had to go WRONG… The cashier was RUDE and NASTY towards me. I thought the bad experience was over ones ileft the restaurant but i was WRONG… Not only did this guy put MEET on My fries but he put SOO much hot sauce in My burrito that it was not eattable. I call back to Make a complaint and asked for the cahsiers Name, his Name George, yes he decides to deal with me himself and treat me more like an ass, not only was he even more RUDE but decided to hangup on me… Thanks for the great costumer service, but maybe a visit from the city should stir up things alittle! After visiting this restaurant for soooo many years, ive decided to NEVER going back AGAIN

Full of soul — and that is exactly how I’m going to describe it. They have, basically, all the salvadorian/mexican/south american dish you can think of on earth– or at least very close to it. Yes, upon descent, you will be bombarded with a very long menu… that looks like it’s never going to stop. There are pupusas, huevos rancheros, carnitas, fried plantains(large bananas), burritos. the list goes on. I tried their pupusas and thought the cheese pupusa was pretty good, the meat one felt like a very thin layer of patty — and that is not how good pupusas should look. Our order took about 10 – 15 min of wait time, of which we took home. We got two drinks, tamarindo and horchata. IMO, get the horchata, forego the tamarindo. Me think it’s because no one really orders the tamarindo so it tastes a bit stale — but the horchata is pretty refreshing. Hubby’s pork burrito tasted okay as well. Normally, I wouldn’t give it so many stars, but I think the fact that they’ve got some factors like, being in the neighborhood for a pretty long time, really represents the community well and a local business operator, I think they deserve a fighting chance against chains like MCDs, one directly opposite of their location. So next time, instead of going for a drive-through at MCD at Hoover and Washington, maybe try that Lucy’s Drive-In for a change and get some refreshing horchata and fruit(fried plantains, because it’s just that much better for you ;).)
