I have found my pupusa spot. It’s located on Union next to popular USC spots such as Nature’s Brew, Bacaro, and Ebae’s, but this place is populated by locals, not students(which means I have found an AUTHENTICSOUTHCENTRALSPOTWOOOO). I wouldn’t say it’s hole-in-the-wall, it’s clean, nice, and feels familial. I went with my friend who is a slight Spanish speaker. He said that usually when he tries to order at Latino places, they recognize his American accent and usually reply in English– not this place!!! The lady who took our order didn’t really speak English, but ordering was easy. When I asked in English if they had pupusas, she just directed me to the pupusas on the menu and I ordered«pupusas con chicharron y queso.» Even though there wasn’t anyone else waiting on food, it took awhile(maybe about 15 – 20 min) for us to get our food, but that just means they were preparing our pupusas fresh. And they did not disappoint. Omg. Cue the red sauce and pickled cabbage. For $ 2.10 a pupusa and two can fill me up?! Amazing. I’ll have to try the horchata next time. Quick tips: Cash only, order in spanish, park either on Union if there’s a spot, or 24th Street!

Pupusas you say?! I have been coming to this place for years! This place is situated on a up-and-coming row of small USC restaurants for students. Not your typical meal for students but the surrounding neighborhood has been coming to this place for years like me. First, the food here is fresh, 90% of about everything is made to order and you cant almost go wrong with any option you pick from their many options in the menu. Obviously the pupusas is their biggest seller and when you order one you will know why. Also, the staff here are friendly, very helpful and after times of coming they get to know your name and always welcome you. Maybe a little wait at times depending how busy it is upon your arrival but either way their service is great. I would recommend ordering a pupusas and an Horchata(not your Mexican style horchata that you may be used to) and you are set for lunch, dinner or whatever meal you wish. Stop by this place and try it out, you cant go wrong here. They also do pickup orders and pupusas are easily eaten and reheated at home. I will definitely be back to this place!

Do not be fooled by the description of pupusas as «stuffed tortillas» on the menu! Delicious pupusas at a reasonable price, considering it’s proximity to USC. Very hole in the wall, and mainly locals come and eat here, not students. They don’t have glasses if water available, but they do have bottled water for $ 1. Place is cash only, and they have an ATM in the event you didn’t come prepared with some $ in your pocket. Street parking available in front of place.

Surrounding Mi Flor Blanca is Bacaro LA, Nature’s Brew(same owners as the Bacaro), and Ebaes in the same block and Pete’s Burgers not too far out and other nearby restaurants are 23rd Street Café and Lucy’s much further up on Hoover. Until recently, I haven’t had Mi Flor Blanca since there’s so many other spots I’ve eaten at. It’s not bad and I like small mom-and-pop type of shops. The server I see there often does not speak English, but it’s easy to point on the menu and I get to try pronounce some of the words on the menu and eventually I learn how to say it right. When I have Salvadorian food, I usually have pupusas and I think their pupusas are fine. There’s a few restaurants nearby, some of which I mentioned above, that have pupusas, but sometimes I’m just in the mood for something different and near where I’m at. I usually get loroco, the edible flower, and sometimes pork and cheese. I’ve tried other dishes like carne asada and guisada depending on my mood. Their tap water is terrible, so you’re better off buying a drink.

Located right next to Bacaro, Mi Flor Blanca is a hole in the wall Salvadorean restaurant that serves DELICIOUS pupusas. For those who don’t know what pupusas are they are Salvadorean quesadillas: thick corn masa tortillas that sealed with a variety of fillings inside. They offer 6 different types of pupusas. My friend and I ended up getting 4: one with cheese, one with lorocco(translated squash flowers), one with calabazas(aka pumpkin), and one with frijoles(beans). As a vegetarian, loved that they have tons of veggie pupusas type! At $ 1.99 each, they are certainly a steal and I am usually full by the 2nd or 3rd one. So do the math and you can get a full meal for about $ 5-$ 7 bucks! When you get the pupusas the staff also brings you one big jar of curtido. The best way I can explain it is that it’s Salvadorean kimchee. Pickled cabbage with a hint of spiciness that adds a nice acidic component to the pupusas. I can’t have a pupusa without it. Tip: If you don’t speak Spanish, be prepared to use your facial expressions and hands a lot. The waitress we had didn’t speak any English, but it didn’t bother me much because I can semi speak Spanish. Tip #2: CASHONLY! Parking: Free street parking up and down Union!

Very good home cooking. This is my first time here and food was very good. I had the Camarones Rancheros very good and good portions. I also had a pupusa Of cheese and chicharrón, i love to have an equal balance of cheese and chicharrón in my pupusas and they did just that. I will definitely add Mi Flor Blanca as one of my new lunch spots.

This is some of the best Salvadoran food outside of El Salvador! My personal favorite is the sopa de gallina, but the yucca con chicharron, pupsas, and everything else I have tried is delicious.

Mi Flor Blanca is El Salvadorian restaurant in USC territory. There’s street parking out in the front. It’s a humble place. The hostess didn’t speak English but not to fear. My lunch partner came to my aid, and of course, I used my non verbal communication skills, including hand motions and facial expressions. I had the grilled shrimp, which came with large perfect avocado pieces. They almost looked artificial. It comes with rice, but I asked for salad instead. It was delicious. My lunch partner ordered a large drink with copious fruit pieces. I don’t know what it’s called, but I’ve never seen it before. The cheese pupusa came with pickled cabbage and salsa. It had a unique flavor.

Great tasting pork cheese and bean pupusas, Not greasy like other places. The prices are good too. If you’re looking for a simple, quick, tasty, filling meal, eat pupusas. I will return. Cash only like we’re in the 1930’s, that’s alright though.

Quite often visited and loved probably the best quality establishment around the USC restaurant, Bacaro LA , however never decided to stop into the Salvadorian restaurant nextdoor which always looked appetizing. I wanted something quick, cheap and small proportioned, so I gutted for a dinner snack papusas. Real central american place and no one there speaks A WORD of ENGLISH. But no worries, my high school spanish kicked in like a superhero, which resulted with looks of confusion by the person behind the counter, pointing, mispronunciation and finally an order :) I asked for the recommended pupusas, so I ordered PAPUSAREVUELTA, a mixed meat, cheese and possible other findings and the PAPUSADELA… FLORA? Some type of flower with cheese. I also went for some kind of fruity Salvadorean orange drink freshly made(ENSALADAFRUTA) that was really good especially if it were a hot summer day. The pupusas came within 10 minutes with sacuy sour cabbage and some type of thick sweet and sour sauce. I dumped loads of the cabbage on as the pupusa was a bit bland. In addition, I was expecting crispy outside and juicy cheesy insides with savory meat. However the papusa was a bit doughy all around, no spice tasted in the bread or inside for the matter. The papusa revuelta was pretty good, however wish it were meatier and more savory. The other papusa with flower was overly cheesy, quite bland and tasteless. Not sure if I would come back and try other main course dishes, although does look quite appetizing. Would rather hop next door to Bacaro.

The service was good, the waitress was attentive. The food was tasty, we got from pupusas to yuca con chicharron to tacos dorados. The price was reasonable for five people I paid around fifty three dollars. Didn’t give it a fully five stars due to the fact they didn’t have chan yet had it on the menu and only accept cash which is pretty lame.

I came by here with my date before heading to the 24th Street Theatre for the play. In her 34 years of existence, I’m sure she’ll appreciate me disclosing her age to the millions of Unilocal users, she’s never had papusas before. I’m like, what the heck girl? You’re reared in a state that has more Latinos than central america and you’ve never had El Salvadoran papusas? With the lack of reviews, I was taking a huge risk. I wonder how people chose which restaurants before Unilocal came on the scene. How does one even live… But I digress. Upon looking at the menu, first thing that came to mind was, damn this place is cheap. We ended up ordering 2 chorizo papusas, A BBQ ½ chicken dish and an order of Taquitos. The servings here are huge. The papusas are definitely good with the added crunch on the outside but soft doughy inside. Highly recommended. There was so much food that even after sharing our meal. There was still plenty of take home for tomorrow’s lunch. I’m not sure when if ever, I’m going to be in the area but if I am, this place is definitely worth checking out. Heck, there are now 2 reviews. Enjoy!

It is just besides my apartment. I took several friends there because they want to try something Mexican and I just chose it for convenience. The owner is a Mexican gramma who is very warmhearted. Each of us ordered one plate. It was really big! The chicken leg was super good, and fish is one whole one fried. Price is very reasonable. Everyday I pass by I find there are seldom anyone there, but It is really a good place to eat!
