I would like to start off by saying the only reason why this isn’t a five star is I only eat the chicken here. So I don’t want to mislead folks giving the food or establishment 5 stars having only made the chicken. Having said that, weather it’s just the A1 Aloha plate or the normal BBQ Chicken combo or the BBQ Chicken /Katsu chicken combo, the food is always consistent and well cooked, flavored, marinated, etc. I come here absolutely more than I check in and rely on it as a source of nourishment with the given food choices in the area. The staff is always nice and friendly, the establishment is clean, and again big plus is that the food I have always ordered is consistent. They have nutrition information on a print out in the front of the store although it just illustrates a lot of popular menu items rather than a la carte items which is what I normally will order on the side of my aloha bowl. Given that I also prepare a lot of boneless skinless chicken thighs myself the fat listed on their nutrition information is abnormally high. But that really has nothing to do with the establishment itself. All in all I will continue to come here as often as possible to get chicken and rice, you place your order and the wait is always short. The food never tastes dull or unfresh, overall I’m very satisfied with eating at this particular Ono Hawaiian BBQ because my experience has not been consistent at others. So kudos to the management and staff.

Great place for some casual Hawaiian BBQ! This location always has a crowd, and the food is always fresh and hot! Pricing is great too, when your on a budget but want to eat until your close to not fitting in your pants anymore. I also like their mini lunch deals, when you’re going for a «lite» day ;-)

Total miss. Mushy cabbage with mushy rice, the only save was the slivers of chicken. I was hungry, noow. …not so much.

Very great food every time! The service and quality of food are always as expected with each visit. It helps that we sometimes have coupons here If you have a group of people, I recommend getting the Ono Family Meal, where you can choose 3 items. The portions for these are much bigger than the regular entrée choices, The meal also comes with vegetables, rice and macaroni salad. My go-to choices are the Chicken Curry Katsu and anything Teriyaki flavored.

On 1÷25÷2016, my office-mates and I called and placed a lunch order. I ordered a fresh mix salad and I specifically told the person taking the order not to put the Edamame beans in the salad because I am allergic to them. I stressed that several times, no beans. She repeated the order with the statement no edamame beans. When I picked up my food, I checked the salad and I did not see any edamame beans on it. Unfortunately, as I began to eat my salad, I saw that there were edamame beans, but they were at the bottom of the salad. I immediately stopped eating the salad. I called the restaurant and I spoke with Melissa, who identified herself as the District Manager, and I told her what had happened and she asked if I could come in and do an incident report. I informed her that I ride the van pool and that I had no way over to the restaurant that day. As I was speaking with Melissa, I was already starting to have an allergic reaction and by the time I got off the phone with Melissa, my allergic reaction had become more severe as I was unable to breath and my manager ended up having to take me to Cedars Sinai Urgent Care. I was treated with several injections and breathing treatments because of the anaphylactic reaction.(I am very lucky that I work at Cedars, where I was able to get quick assistance, but if I had not, this could have been fatal for me). On 1÷26÷16, I returned to the restaurant to speak with Melissa, the District Manager, and fill out the incident report, but unfortunately she was not there. I spoke with the store manager, Carlo, who was a disappointment and did a great disgrace to your company. After telling him what happened to me and all that I went through, he told me, in a very nonchalant way, «WELL, YOUDIDCOMEATLUNCHTIME, WEWEREBUSY.» Then he made the statement«WHYDIDN’T YOUCHECKTHESALAD?» his last statement to me was, «WHAT? DOYOUWANTANOTHERSALAD?» His tone was very rude. I politely said no thank you and informed him that I would come back tomorrow to speak with the Melissa. I was very disappointed with his reaction to the situation. There was no apology for the mistake or concern for my well-being. I really don’t think he understands the severity of the this situation. On 01÷27÷16 I called and returned to the restaurant to speak with Melissa and was told that she was not in and would be in on 01÷28÷16 by Nicolas. I left my information with no response back, making another attempt 01÷28÷16 with no response, and to this day no response. I Love the one in Apple Valley, the customer service there is friendly and great atmosphere.

Really curious, why or better yet how come after I pay for my meal I’m told I can only take the food to go. When I replied that I wanted to eat it here I was told that due to them closing in 30 minutes that’s policy. One would think, it’s best to be told that prior to placing an order and the transaction being completed. Anywho moving along, when I told them I would be eating here. The only reply I got was. «That’s what my manager says» score !!! I always thought the customer was always right ??? Either way, I will be sitting HERE and eating HERE …

I love this Hawaiian joint! I love there BBQ chicken and also chicken Katsu! I always ask for double scoop of macaroni salad because they do it for you if you ask to take out the cabbage which is awesome! No double charge. I usually get half order which is very fulling but if your hungry get a full order! Leftovers are always good. The staff is always so kind and nice. They have siracha sauce if you ask for it and they are generous about it! Some food comfort food for the soul!

I’ve been here twice and had two very different experiences. The first time, I ordered a combo with chicken katsu, BBQ beef, and BBQ chicken. It was SO much food. It lasted like 3 meals and tasted great, especially with the katsu sauce and hot sauce. The next time, I ordered a similar combo, with kalbi, BBQ beef, and BBQ chicken. The kalbi was a little too chewy for my taste and literally only came with like 2 pieces of beef and chicken. I normally am a huge fan of macaroni salad, but I wasn’t too impressed with the mac salad at Ono. There seemed to be too much mayo and not much flavor. I really like Hawaiian BBQ and this location is walkable from my apartment which is great, but I don’t think I can become a regular unless they improve their consistency in portion size.

Chicken Katsu and curry chicken tasted good but the salad that came with the plate was very bland and the lettuce tasted like it has been in the fridge too long. Compared to other Hawaiian chains like L&L you grt alot less meat, the Katsu sauce is very watered down and I left hungry(two entrees plate). I don’t think I would visit here again.

I really love Ono’s. I was a regular at the Riverside location when I went to college. Moved back to my parents’ house and was a regular at the Alhambra location. Now I have one right across the street from me in Mid-Wilshire. Although the quality is consistently good, I am bitter the portions shrunk! A mini meal was huge back in the day. Now it won’t last one meal. I found a new love though — chicken musubis! They are so much better than spam musubis in my opinion.

Basic Hawaiian food with basic options and basic flavors. Nothing to rave about other than its a good sized plate for lunch time(and the money) The service is not bad at all. The only guy there is very helpful and is always attentive and smiling. He’s been there for a while. I like it but it’s not the best food yet a good lunch option if you work around it. I would not go out my way to visit this place though.

3.5 to 4 stars for being an inexpensive, get-more-for-your-money, yummy fast food Hawaiian BBQ spot in Los Angeles. You can’t, I repeat, you can’t possibly compare this place like the fast food joints in Hawaii, like Zippy’s. Some of you know what I am talking about. So don’t confuse this high rating as «oh, it’s like the ones in Hawaii.» I am pretty happy with the food that I have ordered at this particular Ono spot. The spam and chicken musubis are pretty decent for the price(2 for $ 3) and the ratio of the rice to the meat is perfect for me. My fall backs are the kalbi short ribs, the chicken teriyaki and the chicken katsu combos. You have a choice white or brown rice or extra steamed cabbage. What sets them apart from the rest is the coconut haupia and the fresh young coconut to drink. that just upped the bar for me with them.

Wow, just… wow. I have been coming here since they opened their doors. I am a huge fan of local style plate lunches and the offerings here are pretty good, almost as good as L&L Drive In. The main reason I stop here is because it’s close to my house and the service is friendly… usually. So tonight, July 1st, 2015, me and my GF are on our way back from Runyon and have a craving fir some good, filling, and tasty plate lunches and make a pit stop at Ono. She walks in the door at 8:57,(door is wide open, people sitting inside eating,) goes up to the counter and guess what… «Sorry, the kitchen is closing»… You close at 9, «Yea, well we can’t make you anything.» Guess what Ono Hawaiian, you lost a customer with your haole attitude. I’ll be sure to let all my friends in the area know how you treat your dedicated customers.

This is a good chain. Very cheap for plenty of food… And fast! Musubi was yummy. Love good spam. The chicken Katsu was good too. I enjoyed every bite, I don’t care if people say it’s not the best or that it’s not real Hawaiian, it is still very good and hits all the hunger spots. They have indoor n patio seating. Metered parking all around or they validate for one hour parking in their garage.

I was in the area and wanted a quick bite. This spot is very easy on the wallet for a lunch date for under $ 20. My friend and I got the katsu plate and the mini bbq chicken meal. The mini is definitely the perfect amount for lunch because I personally can never finish a whole plate. It’s practically the same as the platter just less … comes with one scoop of brown rice, macaroni salad, and cabbage. My friends katsu surprised me. Did not know it was going to be so crunchy and delicious. One thing I would say is I do wish the katsu meat was a bit thicker because there were a couple bites that were just pure batter with no meat. The cook always makes your food within 10 minutes and it’s always warm! *brown rice is $ 0.50 *hot sauce on the side, but they do have srircha so don’t hesitate to ask!

After reading the reviews, I was really concerned about ordering food from here. I took into affect the positive reviews and chanced ordering. We were craving some Hawaiian food. If you’ve ever been to Hawaii or know something about Hawaii, there’s a general knowledge of peacefulness and beauty among other positive descriptive words that can give meaning to Aloha. The employees and ambiance set by the workers and owners do not exemplify aloha spirit. That said I base me ratings on food quality, price, customer service, cleanliness and over dining experience, which encompasses everything from valet parking to the bathrooms. Any component can affect the other since it’s a reflection of an overall experience. The food is standard Ono’s, it was exactly what I had expected. The taste the sauces and crispiness of my order all seemed quality. The restaurant is in a prime location for daytime business, I’m unsure if there’s building parking, but there is typical LA street parking. So my reason for 2 stars is that the staff are not caring with zero customer service. There’s no greeting until I initiated saying hello and how are you. I went in there very friendly and they seemed annoyed that I came in at 8:00PM. I was the only one there! I maintained my smile in fear they might do something to my food. Customers shouldn’t have that fear. There’s no reason for poor customer service. I was able to somewhat watch my food being prepared since you can see into the kitchen above the counters but not actually on the counters. I’m trying not to let the previous review affect my judgement, but they are true and I have to agree with my fellow Unilocalers. Unfriendly customer service, leads to distrusting food quality. The owners must not care, I’m sure during the day time during lunch rush hours people don’t notice as much but there’s still no excuse.

Typical Ono food. Clean restaurant. But the only reason why I give two stars is because the service is bad. Cashiers have sour faces and not friendly. I ordered a soda and she forgot to give it to me. When I asked if I can get my cup, she wanted to look at my receipt ad gave me attitude. Umm you literally just took my order. Food came out 10 mins later, he barely said the order number. Had is back toward me and I had I ask is that order #30. With a undertone… Yeaaaaaa They need to hire new people. As I am Ben eating they both have frowns on and just staring at people.
